I think that might be too satanic
He always does.;)
100+ hours of gameplay? Tons of side quests? See everyone in a month.
Executer 66 Haha same
Doubt you even finished it, lol. Everyone says the same thing.
Trust me, *it takes more than just a month.*
Im so noob that i didnt know how to do side quests
@@stonecold5373 so true
Finally a reviewer that doesn't spoil everything. Thanks dude!
so true
@@Juoo finally, a reviewer who's extremely excited to play this game! So many reviewers keep saying how weak the story is, or how they hate random encounters. Those reviews miss the point of this game, in my opinion. I'm really happy I own this game, and so far, it's given me many hours of enjoyment!
Jonny is the truest gamer on CZcams. I have been watching for 6 years he has always stayed real. This is literally the best and one of the oldest gaming channels on CZcams
This is such a rewarding game once you learn the combat, and you beat a few bosses! This is one of those games, that has random encounters, which are extremely frustrating, but once you start leveling up, you start craving those random encounters just to see how powerful you become! This game is so fun!
They should remake, with this type of graphics, games like Chrono Trigger, Xenogears or Suikoden 2.
The Switch is already shaping up to be a pretty great RPG machine! Can't wait to play this tomorrow!
Abby Jameson it totally is, there's more rpgs coming this year like ys 8 lacrimosa, shining resonance refrain, monster Hunter generations ultimate, tales of vesperia definitive edition, the world ends with you final remix, disgaea 1 complete, code of princes ex, labyrinth of refrain:coven of dusk, valkyira chronicles 4, pokemon let's go eevee/pickachu
Christopher Berner i would say monster hunter is an action game with rpg elements here and there. Not close to an rpg level like the other games you mentioned tho.
Christopher Berner avoid code o princess. Game is pretty shit
Unfortunately, the only rpg exclusives are octopath and pokemon -_-“
Abby Jameson my favorite so far is lost sphear still lots to play lol
Best part I’ve seen of this game.....”Your excellency, Your excellency, Your excellency, Your excellency, Your excellency, Your excellency, Your excellency, Your excellency, Your excellency” 😂
Still my favourite switch game. Incredible all round for me. The music is probably the best game soundtrack I've ever heard alongside the witcher 3.
I love you Johnny. Out of all the reviews I've watched on Octopath you are literally the only one who made the connection between this and the SaGa series. I was starting to think I was the only one in the world who has actually played those games. I knew you would get it. Cheers!
You know, I absolutely love your videos. Your energy and excitement is extremely addictive. You exude the joy and happiness that comes out of playing video games. Keep up the amazing work!
How can anyone dislike this guy's review? Genuine, and a pleasant to listen to. Thanks for the review, I honestly don't know how to approach this game, I have the same thought as you in the beginning, but now I know what to expect, and sure will enjoy this game.
Just picked up a Switch last week and I've had a resurgence of interest in playing JRPGs. Haven't played any since the earlier Final Fantasy days and Chrono Trigger. This and Dragon Age XI have definitely grabbed my interest.
I'm so ready for this game tomorrow!
The second that I hear that this game is good, I’m already sold on buying it.
The first time i saw this game, i know its gonna be good. Now most of the review back it up, I'm sold.
its a best buy
Lost sphere any good?
LINEAGEIIII it’s at Best Buy ?
Too many games, too little time
TheMrAardbei the amount of releases I want to play is giving me God damned anxiety. Good problem to have I suppose...
Tell me about it brother
Good thing they dont expire
@@-pressxtostart- They don't expire, but the games pile up faster than you can play them 🤣
This hit me hard, I once said I can't wait to grow up and get a job to buy all the games I want,
I grew up and got a job but I no longer have time to play.
8 hours working + 8 hours sleeping leave only 8 hours to do everything else in life!
I am now looking to play a game in the summer and Octopath Traveler has been on my radar, but a BIG negative that makes me hesitate to pick up is how every reviewer says it is a long game and you have to pace yourself.
Another game on my radar is Persona 5 Royal which also requires a lot of time to complete (a loading panel in the game literally says to "Take Your Time")
I wish I could sell something for a crazy amount of money to last me and my family a lifetime, then I could play as much as I want.
I came across your vids only recently, truly admire your honest opinion on each game review!
Can't wait to pick it up tomorrow!
What would my video be called on this one Johnny?
Indeimaus Waifu Traveler? Idk lol XD btw i love the videos dude keep being awesome!
idunno something clickbaity with a dark souls reference and with boobs on the thumbnail. seems to work most of the time.
Indeimaus you’re one of my favorite content creators!
My girlfriend's offer to buy me a switch is getting more and more tempting....
Name of title: DEATH TO ALL AAA TITLES AMEN!!
Awesome video Johnny ,)
Is the special edition just avaiable for pre orders or is also avaiable at day 1?
I really want to dig into this game.
It haves that old school vibe of classic SNES RPGs. The golden era ,)
Johnny, your reviews are amazing man.
Glad I found your channel, bravo man
Final Fantasy 6 remake in this style next Square-Enix please.
i would love to see that! hey while there at it how about throw Chrono Trigger in there aswell
If they start on it now maybe we could have it by 2084
Oh my lord! That would be incredible.
MGLionHeart my mind cant take much more!
Chrono Trigger
Late to the party with the prologue demo but it seems it’s one of those games you have to get deep into and I’m fine with that. These type of games are tailored for us 30 + crowd that grew up in the 90’s. Let’s Gooooo Friday!
FrogFucious I'm not 30 but I feel the same way
I Feel On That !!!
im in my early 20s but I do luv me retro games also as long as they keep me engaged. Plus I hav played a few old ones from my childhood on my GBA like the Phantasy Star collection of the 1st 4 games. (I also played FF6 a few years back on an emu but stopped playing bc of a bug tht happened tht always took me back to the event right b4 *spoilers* the world ends, when I hit a certain point. lol)
36 here, I fully agree.
lol i'm 16 but I feel the same after playing a bunch of the old final fantasy games when I was little
Nice video as always! I’m still putting off getting back into this game after about 6 hrs I’m still overwhelmed lol. Awesome game but I just have to make time for it.
Btw is that a Konami capture eye behind you over your left shoulder? I can’t tell what it is but I’ve been looking for one of those if you have any leads;)
Subscribed. Like the way you relate to the viewer. Also upbeat attitude.
Discovered your channel about a month ago. Love your videos.
Can’t wait to see all of the videos for this review 👍🏼
There is no word in the English dictionary to describe how much I'm in love with this game
What did you do that you had to grind for the main story
I'm at the very end and I just need to grind now for the end end boss
I loved your review. I'm really looking forward to playing this now. Plan on playing it all weekend. Thank you for no spoilers!
I always love that shirt you're sporting.
im going thru the game as far collecting characters but I dont get all those side quests how to track them what to rly do where to find things =,=
Cant wait for this game tomorrow and loved the demos. It was weird how much bigger the human enemies are than the player characters lol. Graphics kinda remind me of final fantasy tactics but on a 16 bit type rpg. (Btw how have you liked shining resonance so far? I no you like the shining series. Just was wondering.)
I know this is off topic Johnny millennium but I would love to see what you think of the Sega Saturn. I know you said you were burned by it. But do you own one what were your thoughts. Could you make a video about it?
Great Review and Great video!! I am very excited to get my Collector’s Edition copy tomorrow. I started the prologue demo with H’aanit and fell in love with the game. It’s like you said 100%. throwback to old school games that are epic and still hold up today.
So excited to go get this game tomorrow. Seems good enough, and it seems to have enough content, to keep me entertained until Dragon Quest XI gets here.
Great review. I definitely agree about the grinding spots. Even if I'm well above the recommended level, I try to grind until it starts to feel tedious. You can never be too safe.
Save often. I like that the game tells you in that way.
Good to know about the logistics of leveling up other characters. I was wondering about that when I watched the game trailer. Thanks for the upload! Enjoyed the video!
So excited to play this! I remember getting my back side handed to me in Demon Gaze but when I finished it I felt I had accomplished something. This seems to be the same. Great review Johnny!
Breath of the wild Mario oddysey xenoblade chronicles 2, octopath traveller, Kirby star allies, fire emblem captain toad treasure. Switch is in fire
two of them are wii u ports
Ochinpo 😂😂😂😂 burn
If it’s in fire, you better grab that shit quick!
Fire will destroy the Switch.
So much fire. 🔥 but Kirby and toad don't belong in that list ;)
I don't have a problem with ports, however, I don't reference them if making an argument in favor of the Switch. But, in fairness, a lot of people didn't play them when they were on the Wii U anyway, so they may as well be "new" titles for a lot of folks.
Let me get this straight. You can follow and complete each character's story from one save file (and just swapping back and forth btwn characters)? Or do you have to start 8 new save files to get each story?
I really want to try this, your enthusiasm has me intrigued. Looks pretty amazing. Another game added to the list. 👍
Johnny, you really are an international treasure. Inspired and motivated me for over 10 years 🙌 Big love my friend
Good review. The game looks pretty sweet
Excellent review of this masterpiece. Love your spoiler free approach and energy dude. Bought the game a couple of days ago on Steam before watching any reviews, so glad I did. Also picked Olberic and around level 10, looks like it will keep me busy for the next few months! Excellent work. Subscribed!
Looks right up my alley! Will def grab this eventually when I have a Switch.
I decided to pick this up the other day and I think when you have time Johnny, you should give it another shot but try everyone's pathways at once. Doing just one leads to hours of grinding which you found but if you visit every story you will naturally be at the correct levels.
Will you tell your thoughts on Shining Resonance Refrain if you played it? :^)
OH MAN!!! I cant wait, picking up the special edition tomorrow, super excited!
What did you think of the job system? Didnt mention that. Compare to the Bravely Default games from the same Devs?
Octopath is not from the same team that did the Bravely games.
Thanks John, loved this review, defiantly going to pick this up
Johnny is my spirit animal. Fucking love this dude, favorite channel on youtube
Picked up my switch on Friday and love this game so far. I'm about level 20 on my main group. Played A LOT this weekend lol.
Surprised you said that you didn't notice the music. That's the first thing i noticed in the demo and it made me want the game right away. Its so good
This is one my favorite games of the generation, and most definitely my favorite soundtrack. The music here is sublime and perfectly captures that fantasy motif. The stories (each character has their own) range from the mundane to the dramatic culminating into one intertwined epic tale. Incidentally, they finally released an official strategy guide for OT almost 2 years later.
Nice one.
Sorry for the lateness but nice review! Need to play this game one day
Really nice review Johnny! I’ve watched this a few times now ha.
About done with triangle strategy. Enjoyed it so much I'm wanting to jump into octopath traveler when I get the chance. Good review!
Pre purchased after the three hour demo, looking forward to playing this today
Good Review John! Let’s get together this summer and have a bbq! -JKB
Can't wait for this pre-ordered this six months ago...wish they still made RPGs like this.
Loving the aggressive depth of field in this game, it works very well with the pixel art!
can anyone explain to me where the hell do I download Prologue demo from? It's not in the eshop. Did Nintendo pull it out?
Soooo ready!!!!!
Really nice job with the editing on this, Johnny! Looks like it took some time. Glad to hear you love the game! Gonna have to pick it up.
Thanks for doing the review just like that, no spoilers. Your excitment is also captivating and makes me even more eager to play it.
I have been looking forward to this game so much. Thanks for the great review!
This channel is awesome. Discovered YS VIII and love it. Thank you sir! I also Pre ordered this game.
Yay! When we getting that collectors unboxing
The way this game looks😍
Your first before hands on impression of the game is literally my exact feeling. Cashing in on a nostalgic aesthetic. But now I’m kinda interested now after seeing your review
Great video as always. I saw that its out on PC tomorrow... i still want it on the Switch.
Yup, I've been playing for a bit more than an hour now… Damn i get killed a lot, thanks for the tip about places and levels though. will probably help me a lot in the future!
Can’t wait for tomorrow!! Really excited to explore the different multi job combos to come up with my dream party!!
Great review, Johnny! I've had my Switch for about a month now and I'm really loving it, and I've been waiting for this game to come out! It really looks like a solid experience close to what the original Lunar games provided on the Sega CD or any other older rpg's I've played in the past! Can't wait until I can get a copy!
Is this the first review you've given an actual score or do I just normally not listen to scores?
The miniature effect is cool
I always like to keep my characters at the same level, so the only grinding i did was from chapter 1 to 2 (since the first characters you picked up will the stronger by know, but i only did it by exploring dungeons). After that, i did it again to beat the final boss.
I dont know what to buy first:
This or Bayonneta?
Love the review, keep it up. And your shirt is fantastic.
When I first saw this game during the Switch release I really thought it was Final Fantasy Tactics 2. What Square now needs to do is use this engine and remake all their old classic rpgs, I would love that.
Hey um.. One question like I really really want to play this game? But like I can't afford to buy a switch.. :< will it be a switch exclusive or will it come to PC?
Switch exclusive.
Franco Rossel thanks :>
i'm picking my preorder up tomorrow. so excited
Yeah, I get what you mean about the boss battles. Right now i'm finishing off my first chapter four quest (It's Tressa's, btw, because I picked her first) and the recommended level was 45. Guess how high a level most of my party were? Two of my members were level 41, while one was level 39. And I've been farming ever since
Awesome review...thanks man!
I got one question...can u see the enemies on screen or does it surprise u with battles as ur walking?
Bryant Richardson it's classic jrpg, random battles.
Ahh k thanks for info
Im glad its not geared towards people new to rpgs. It means its not watered down. Mystic Quest ring a bell...
it's a hard game i would say. Or at least for me. Its not impossible, but its a grindy game.Chapter 1 is a breeze, but the difficulty really kicks in in chapter 2. Not that i have anything against that. But i think newcomers to jrpgs they will have hard and frustrating moments with it. Very rewarding tho. My favorite game on the switch this year. By faaar.
I disagree that it's grindy. Maybe if you want to to one characters chapters in one go, but spreading it around it's very doable.
If I wasn't already eagerly awaiting this game's release tomorrow, now John has me super-hyped to pick this up and play the heck out of it. Nice review, as always!
Did he refrerence the Saga Frontier series or a different one?
How many hours did you get in total as of now?
I got my compendium edition today, and cant wait to play the whole day tomorrow. 😍
I love your excitement while talking about the game. Cheers
The birth of HD-2D. The way HCG can't find words to describe what this game style is,16bit nostalgia graphics etc.
Today we just say HD-2D and everyone knows what the genre is.
Ive never played any games of this genra but i like rpg’s and this games graphics, should i buy?
Hitting the subscribe button because this review you gave of this game was amazing and you are exactly right it is just likeplayimg a new saga frontier game bravo!
Nice chronograph on your wrist sir, may i ask what brand it is?
This game is how I imagined a new Star Ocean game in one of my dreams a long time ago. A 2D game that uses 3D lighting and 3D effects to enhance the 2D.
Nice review!! I get this game tomorrow and I can't wait.
I'm gonna go get this game like right now. Great review.
ballandpaddle
Lost sphere any good?
I'm not much of an rpg/jrpg fan at all really but I decided to try the 3 hour demo (because why not) and I must say now I'm hooked on this game. I can't wait to pick up my copy tomorrow. I'm sure this will be my next 100+ hours Switch game. Great review Johnny
DTfeartheBEARD wow, that's surprising. Can I ask what about this game grabbed you where others couldn't?
I wuld like to know too.
I'm actually quite happy to hear that it is a style of rpg that really wants you to invest time into it in order to progress through it. I think too many people rush through games in order to play the next one when a game in itself should be savored and enjoyed to its fullest. I actually like the sound of this games approach when it comes to transitional difficulty. I think some games should force you to grind because its no fun if you can generally coast through a game right to the end. I'm looking forward to giving this game a try when i eventually get a swtich.
TheCompletionist it’s really playing hard on the nostalgia. The gold ol’ days of SNES were always being heavy. I remember spending hours just grinding away to level up enough.
Only 30% of players finish any given game. So people aren’t even rushing through so they can get to the next game.people just want games to be passive entertainment like television. The widest audience will be available for the product that asks the least out of its audience, like pop-music, junk food, television and young adult fiction books,
I recommend you play Xenoblade X on wii u console
It is also a game let player to invest their time on progress especially in customization and exploration
JazGalaxy only if they're post-apocalyptic!
How was it?
