Back in the 1970s I had a C90 then a CB250 and a mate of mine had a ex police Norton who would go around roundabouts at over 50 mph. Crazy days and nights.

These little bikes are tremendous fun. With a three-speed semi-automatic box and an engine that seems to run on thin air, they're practical too. Sometimes the old ones really are the best.

Expanding into bikes is great. I started my motoring life on a Honda Express (at the time I didn't care about my image as long as it had an engine!) but soon switched to 4 wheels as soon as I was old enough. It was a number of years later, and mostly for economic and convenience reasons did I take my bike test. The power and sense of freedom was a revelation. Not long after taking my bike test I went to the other extreme of Honda ownership and bought myself a Honda Blackbird which I still own 25 years later. Despite being the fastest road bike of its day, the Blackbird has stayed true to Honda's reputation for reliability and pretty much starts every time and runs sweetly despite only routine maintenance being carried out over the years.
Looking forward to seeing the mysterious 2 stroke 250cc with the mad powerband - I am pretty sure I know what it is but won't spoil the surprise here. A mate of mine had one back in the 80s and it was like someone had flipped a switch when it reached a certain number of revs and all hell was let loose. There was also a smaller 50cc version which had similar characteristics to the 250 and around this time legislation was introduced to limit the power output of such bikes (classed as mopeds). That made these older bikes sought after as they were produced before the legislation was introduced and easily outperformed the newer compliant models by a wide margin. The newer bikes were not only gutless in acceleration, top speed was also not much over 30mph and yet these older bikes could touch 60mph on a good day with the wind behind you.
