    Reminds me of my stepthru days on a honda C50 I used to ride from Portsmouth to Surrey once a week and it took me about 4 hours to get there, in all kinds of weather and the little 50cc engine never skipped a beat.

      What kind of speed did the c50 see?

    I've got a 1969 Honda C102 with a 125cc pitbike engine, originally had a 50 cc cast iron head/barrel lump that barely made 38 mph, the 125cc OHC engine isn't really strong like modern pitbike engines, but it will happily cruise at 55 mph. Also has better alternator for brighter lights as it was a 6 volt prior to conversion.
    Break-in notes on these Lifan crate engines: Do your first oil change after about 200~300 miles, and every 500~800 miles afterwards. Largely on how much you flog the bike. Check the valves, I believe they're something like 0.003 intake 0.005 exhaust. Also noted your engine was running a little rich on idle so that might take more than just adjusting the airfuel pilot screw, also check to see if you left your choke partially on, I do this infrequently on my bike, but it protests with much power loss and stumbling when trying to accelerate.

      Ta for the top tips. Yeah, I checked the plug and it was sooted up. I've stuck a new carb on as I think the mixture screws on the original weren't as they should, will he the first start up with the new carb this morning so hopefully get it set to run OK 👍

    I have never had C90 i had Yamaha T80 4 speed shaft drive scooterette.
    Surprisingly i did 50,000 miles on it mainly commuting as a shift worker plus i did a Few Long Distance trips 125 each way in the winter !! (Cold and slowish) had bigger bikes since then but now as 70 i have downsize to a Kawasaki J300 (300cc) scooter which is very pleasant to ride and goes well..

      @OldNorthern_eMTBer I had the round one too, and no screen, rode around a horse paddock a couple of times in the early 80s and never looked back, still riding 😊 Love it 🏍

      Not sure yet, need to adjust the carb settings then do some runs to see what range a tank gives me. I've got a couple of metal water bottles with emergency fuel in the butty box anyway, just in case. I will report back in good time 😁 👍

      they should average about 90 to 105 MPG (US Gallons here..) when tuned and you have the gearing sorted. These engines will pull about a 16 tooth sprocket with the 41 tooth back sprocket, makes for less thrash when doing 40~45 mph.

      How many others on you tube play music
      Together with themselves talking I can’t
      Think of any.
      But at the end of the day it’s your choice
      And my choice was to switch off, which
      Was a shame as I was interested in what
      You were saying

    how'd you deal with the different engine mounts? use a kit, or find a rare lifan with the same mounting patterns? (edit... i assume this is actually a relatively new 90 and they may have changed the mounts to suit all the "clone" engines... all i know is the original c/ct 90s and 110s have a different mount pattern.)
    why i prefer the 50 and 70, the lifans (weel, all the china clones...ducar, shinewray, etc... 1p5*FMI type engines) share the same bolt pattern, can go up to the limit... lifan 150. though personally i prefer the lifan 140, those things are bulletproof... and the "clutch on secondary" means you dont have to find neutral to kick them over, unlike the 125s.
    just have to watch the cylinder hitting the front mudguard as its all a bit longer than its supposed to be. not an issue on my 50 as im running the forks off an R15...
    yeah...rego... sounds easy over there, here it requires engineers certificates etc...
    all you need now is to throw some high lift cams in and she will SCREAM!!!

    • @OldNorthern_eMTBer
      @OldNorthern_eMTBer  Před 5 měsíci

      The engine dropped straight in, no hassle, no engineer certificates, just plug and play. The C90 (and 50s and 70s) have the same mounts as the original C90 engine, hence why they are so popular. Cant comment on the CT's mounting pattern, never seen one of those bikes but surprised if they aren't the same as the C55, 70 and 90?

    • @paradiselost9946
      @paradiselost9946 Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@OldNorthern_eMTBer i had a 64, 72, and 82 C90. they all share the same mounts as the ct110, and they definitely do NOT take lifan engines without a bracket or modded mounts. whereas the 50s and 70s do. same as the sl50/70. Z50 as well. and the QR50.
      ct90/110 aka postie bikes here... same deal. different mounts.
      but what year is that 90? the speedo and shiny bits suggests its relatively new. 2000+.
      the posties are now running the new cubs with the EFI, havent touched one, but i sort of assume they took the easy route and share the same mounts as the china clones... its either lifan or ducar making them "under license".
      possibly even the grom, along with the other manufacturers running the horizontal engines...

      @@OldNorthern_eMTBer this i find peculiar, as every 90 i have had has had the same mount as the 110, and that is NOT the same as the 50/70. so i just had to do some hunting...
      i now assume yours was originally a 12v system. and apparently, the 6v (everything i have owned) has the different mount... learn something new everyday huh?
      yes, for 86 its immaculate. either it was stored in a box or its had a nice restoration... its so shiny...
