  • In this video, I'll show you how we installed a Borgeson power steering conversion on my 1965 Mustang. The project took some time, but it was relatively pretty simple. I'm super happy with how my car steers. I hope this video helps or inspires you guys!
Thanks to my dad Aaron Kahan for helping with the project and for getting me the shots of Steve working on my frame rail!

I love my Borgeson setup in my 65. Installed it in 2018 and it’s been flawless since. They sell a kit to reduce the line pressure of the pump. This will make the steering a little heavier and less over boosted. I highly recommend it.

Great walkthrough! I also ripped out the PS in my 67 because of how horrible it was. Not sure if I could bring myself to go back to having a pump and hoses, but you sure did make it look clean. One thing I gotta call out, though: it would be a good idea to move that bird feeder when spraying, just to be safe.

I have the same set up and the only thing I had changed out were the hoses. The V8 hoses sat too close to my headers, and so Borgeson suggested their hoses made for the 6 cylinder which was much longer and I was able to to routed it higher up on the shock tower away from the headers.

Vague power steering - a Ford specialty.
I learned to drive in a 76 and 78 Mercury Marquis - between the 6 feet of nose out front of the windshield and the totally numb power steering, it was more like steering a boat than driving a car.

Great job, Ben. Enjoy watching your progress on your Mustang. Also like how you clean improve the reused parts rather than just slapping it all back together. On the video it appears your steering wheel needs to be recentered as it looks like it is off to the right. Nothing a few turns of the tie rods can’t correct. I did a Borgeson swap on my ‘68 Charger and it had that slight whine coming up the steering column into the car. I had to nudge the wheel a touch and it would stop. Mostly at stop lights.

Great system and a huge improve on the antiquated system.
    I installed this in a Corvette C3.
Only problem I had was with the U-joint, the caps kept slipping out, I see yours have four spots on each caps that hold the caps from doing this, just like mine had, and they failed.
I had to drill and tap cap screws that will prevent the caps from slipping out.

Subscribed and hit the like button!!! Its cool you and your dad work on stuff together!!! Your Mustang is a really neat car!! Look around your area for an industrial business that does flamespray. Its a cheap, really cool header coating. I think it may be called aluminizing and flame spray both??? Up here in WA state (above you) the local guy charges about 25.00 per header. I had VW heat exchangers and a muffler done and it lasted years. Bright white color. You guys have a nice home to do this work!!!

See if you can add more positive castor to the alignment, that will make the steering a bit heavier, give it more feel, and will give more straight line stability.

Watched a few of your videos. Better get that speedometer fixed so we know how fast you're going. Probably be good for you to know too. Also, I'd take it back to who did the alignment so they could get the steering wheel centered properly. They should be able to get it closer than that. You can also do it yourself. Just google around. I beliere are 2 adjusters. You turn them equal amounts in either the same or opposite directions to maintain the alignment and adjust the steering wheel. Nice ride, looks like fun!

Everything I see shows that the kits wont work with a stock z bar and to use the other one you mentioned, yet it seems like that one only works for the 6 bolt block/bellhousing, not the 5. I have the same kit, but it is super tight. Like i the steering wheel is pretty much stuck, so when driving you have to adjust all of the time, otherwise the wheels are locked in that exact direction and wont follow the road.
Almost as some bearing in the steering box is faulty, or if the steering shaft is tight somewhere.
Does anyone know what it could be, or could you check with borjesson?
I have tried adjusting the lock nut, but it doesnt help.

Nice job. I drained the power steering fluid out of my 1966 Mustang because of leaks. It is a pain to keep from leaking and I don't drive the car enough, which kind of is a crime. How come you would like to put another engine in? I think these 289's are pretty stout and are capable of decent power mods although probably not the most cost effective.
