Classic Mustang Mod: Stop Gas Spillage and Pump Gas Hands Free!

  • In this video, I upgrade my car with a new fuel filler neck with a modern insert into my 1965 Mustang. This upgraded fuel filler neck stops fuel overflow/spillage while filling up with gas using modern fuel nozzles. Classic Mustangs have a wide open neck, leading to gas station nozzles not shutting off as they do on a modern car, so if you are not careful, gas can get splash out every time you fill up. This mod fixes that and holds the nozzle in place so you can pump hands-free. Although this specific kit is made for 1965-1970 Mustangs, this concept can be applied to other classic cars.
This video is not sponsored, but if you want to purchase this kit or want instructions, email Doug MacMillin at stangs.r.me@gmail.com

A bit of history if not mentioned yet, that incert was originally used in the 70's to prevent refueling with leaded fuel, the nozzle for leaded fuel was larger in diameter than the unleaded nozzle, and would not fit thru the nozzle hole which in turn would cause the leaded fuel to splash out if attempting to lead fuel a vehicle marked "unleaded fuel only"
And that is your 70's dose of trivia for the day

That looks like a great upgrade - why has no one done this before!?! Here in Scotland, we don't have petrol pumps that you can lock on, stand and watch while it fills your car - we have to hold the trigger down until it's full! Being a tall, older guy with a bad back, this is torture and I've got to stand at weird angle for the duration of the fill-up, so this looks like a great invention to me!

So ‘65 with a ‘66 gauge package? Is your car a ‘65 GT? That would explain the ‘66 style gauges.

JB weld is a terrible way to design that......just a simple tach weld is all it needs. Once that jb weld lets go it will end up in the fuel tank.

JB weld? No thanks. I’ll install that piece myself by washing it thoroughly and spot welding it in

You have turned that into a real nice car. Don't paint it. It will ruin your budget and fun.
