    Ange Postecoglou has turned Celtic into a high-pressing, attacking machine since taking over, leading them to a Scottish Premiership title in 2021/22 and the riches of the Champions League.
    A question we get asked often at Tifo is, how has Ange Postecoglou done this, and how has he got Celtic playing such entertaining football? JJ Bull answers those questions.

    JJ, can you please do a video on Bodo Glimt. Only 2 teams have really battered Celtic so far this year. One was Bayer Leverkusen, which makes sense as they have some amazing players. The other was Bodo Glimt. In a way that was more disappointing as I actually thought we had better players than them and they won due to superior tactics. They also famously battered Mourinho's Roma. What are they doing right?

    • @eighteen1741
      @eighteen1741 Před 2 lety +55

      If I’m being honest, bodo/glimt were harder opponents than Leverkusen, Though we got beat 4-0 at home we were actually in the game and had opportunities, the score line was very inflated. Bodo actually kept us to very little opportunities

    • @mauricen9688
      @mauricen9688 Před 2 lety +20

      Bodo simply played counter-attacks around the flanks of the celtic defence, which was always going to happen imo. The Bodo coach said he watched Celtic videos and looked for weaknesses. Celtic's main weakness was the inability of the wide defenders to cover their positions and the low defensive running capability of the midfield and overall physical presence. It was sucker punch stuff. Tactics customised to expose the opponent's weak points and negate their strengths. I think there is still a weakness especially on the left and midfield. I rate recruitment as Ange's greatest success.

    • @liamdevine8063
      @liamdevine8063 Před 2 lety +12

      In fairness Leverkusen battered us about a month into the season - we played them in Germany only a month later but the time on the training pitch and improvement in performance was actually referenced BEFORE the game by the Bayer manager and indeed we played very well losing by a goal but leading until relatively late on. Followed that up with a win against Real Betis at Celtic Park.
      Bodo Glimt on however, another level. A machine. Quite incredible to watch honestly. I would compare them to Red Bull Salzburg who had a similar kind of almost mechanical synergy although the style itself is of course very different.

    • @liammccabe05
      @liammccabe05 Před 2 lety +2

      @@mickporter1488 Respectfully, the data simply doesn't support that notion. I agree that Ange's impact hasn't been as massive as Jose at Porto all those years ago. Celtic fans are very familiar with Mourinho's rise given we were the first wrung on the ladder of his ascent in the UEFA Cup in 2003, but a) that's a pretty lofty bar, and certainly not one you have to meet to be considered successful and b) no one else is making that comparison.
      Being more realistic, if we're looking at serious, steady improvement over several seasons, Celtic's fortunes will almost certainly continue to improve under this manager and within this system. He's gotten to this point even after being left with a threadbare team in utter dissaray last summer, and when given the oppotunity to recruit more of the players he wants, and time to further bed in his methods, it'll be exciting to see what happens both in Scotland and Europe.
      I am ofc biased, but I suspect when Celtic and Rangers play again on Sunday at Ibrox it will be a competitive match (especially given what Rangers are showing in Europe) but I still fancy Celtic's chances. In any case, enjoying the race this year, long may Scottish football remain this exciting 😁

    Can’t wait to see Celtic in the champions league! This could be their year. This year was all about building the team and it’s just happened to be enough for domestic dominance over rangers and the rest. 2022/23 will be all about Europe for Celtic and Ange. If rangers can beat dortmund it’s gonna be great to see Scottish football back and flying!

    Took 8:40 for this guy to mention Callum McGregor with “McGregor’s still there”.
    Not only is McGregor still there but is being utilised as a Deep Lying Playmaker he is key to “Angeball” in the quick transition from Defence to Attack with his ability to both find space where there is none and find an effective forward pass generally to the best option before teams can get set.
    You might want to research his numbers and stats operating as a Regista at Celtic whilst obviously LEADING THE SIDE by example as Captain.
    His influence under Postecoglou’s system is such that Scott Brown hasn’t been missed this Season.
    As for McGregor doing a slightly different role?
    Well he isn’t he was deployed as a Regista under Neil Lennon also with the alteration being he’s no longer in a double pivot alongside Brown but operating as the single pivot behind a double screen of two attack minded Midfielders .
    May I point you towards the two excellent videos done previously on this channel on primarily Pirlo ,Busquets and the role of the Regista in the modern game.
    Two outstanding videos on the role McGregor plays at Celtic 👍🏼
    As he’s done for the vast majority of games in the past 3 years at Celtic.

    Not much was known in Scotland about the guy before he arrived, in fact there was a collective shrug and a bit of anger from some fans. The guy's showed his class though and really turned them around as they had been outclassed by Gerrard and Rangers.

    • @liammccabe05
      @liammccabe05 Před 2 lety +1

      While Gerrard did have an admirable knack for winning old firm matches even when Celtic were otherwise unassailable, it did take a complete internal collapse at Parkhead before Rangers could win the league. Celtic were very much thumped by Rangers last season, but it might be more accurate to say this was due to a huge deterioration in form at Celtic rather than a massive increase in quality at Rangers. As has been seen this year, once Celtic got back up to form everything evened out again 😊

    • @zakoid1
      @zakoid1 Před 2 lety +1

      @@liammccabe05 I'll take the middle ground with this one being a neutral 😊. Celtic were in bad shape under Lennon, surprised me as they'd a lot of success and brilliant European nights with him before, and Gerrard made Rangers solid, bought well, were attacking and took full advantage of Celtics slump. I've just read that back... I'm in complete agreement with ye actually 😁

    • @liammccabe05
      @liammccabe05 Před 2 lety +1

      @@zakoid1 I tend to try and take the reasonable middle ground despite my bias (much to the chagrin of my more dogmatic father) so its personally affirming that a neutral agrees with my take 😂
      But you are correct on that point, for Rangers to capitalise they had to be on an even keel. It took Gerrard years of hard work to get there, but an even keel is all it was; Celtic's collapse flattered them. If Rangers performed below their average last year they would still most likely have won the league comfortably.

    Does a free kick wall make sense? Hear me out! This question could be mentioned in your “the tifo football show”-series. The wall hinders the goalkeeper’s sight and he has to position himself worse. Plus, in our German Sunday League training sessions, we stick to the so-called “Gesetzte” (german for “placed ones”). In this exercise, every player places his ball in a given distance (~20 meters) and one after another shoots on the goal. Even though there’s no wall, only 4 out of 20 players succeed to shoot a goal. The exercise is close to a free kick without wall yet nobody delivers. So, where’s the point in setting free kick walls?

      I think possibly yes. He'll be on team's radar now at the very least, although he may have to do something in Europe to become a real target. Having said that, winning the treble in his first season when everybody thought a massive rebuilding year was in store would be a hugely impressive feat, and Premier League sides also needing to rebuild may find that attractive.
