  • Welcome to our CNA channel, your trusted partner in preparing for the Prometric CNA exam! In this in-depth video, we'll guide you through the step-by-step process of changing a patient's position to supported side-lying-a critical skill for your CNA journey and Prometric exam success. In this video, you'll learn:
    * A comprehensive, Prometric-compliant breakdown of the procedure
    * Ensure patient comfort, safety, and dignity
    * Clear and concise instructions for each essential step
    * Demonstrations to simplify learning and practice

I was so nervous I forgot to verbalize washing hands at the end of the first two but thankfully I passed bc I did the skills right. That's all she was looking for. For the partial bath I even added chucks (that's for pericare or anything where the resident is incontinent) but I was like it's better to add shit then to forget the necessary parts of the skill.
      The best advice I can give you and anyone else before the test is study alot for the written portion. Pace yourself and not bombard your head with all this information at once. Then once your done with that study ALL those skills. You won't know what skills you'll have til the day of so it's best to know all! Good afternoon. I noticed that you didn't check the patient's ID before starting your task. Is that not required in Florida? I live in NY, and I wanted to know when is that you check a patient's ID, after you wash your hands or before you wash your hands?

    Why is a bath blanket used for this task? Is it specifically to keep the patient warm? What is the difference between using a bath blanket or the already-provided sheet for this task?

    • @4yourcna
      @4yourcna  Před 7 lety +15

      You are not required to use a privacy blanket for this skill - but you must keep the patient covered for their comfort. Think of it this way: your perception of temperature is different from the patient's because you are fully dressed and very active (the temperature will feel warm to you) while they are in a thin hospital gown and inactive (the temperature will feel colder to them). If you take away the sheet, they will REALLY feel cold, and probably a bit exposed due to the lack of clothing. Since we have to turn them and place a pillow behind their back and between their legs, the sheet will probably be in the way for those steps. If you remove the sheet, you must use a blanket. If you choose to use the sheet instead, make sure it covers the patient at all times. Hope this helps!

    Hi 4your CNA, I hope you're able to respond to this comment. In my class, we're told to place the call light in the arm that is laying flat, not the top arm. It seems this would be more comfortable for the patient and would ensure that it does not fall out of his/her grip. Was this a mistake in the video?

    Is a privacy blanket definitely needed for this skill & should there be another pillow to cushion the ankles?

    • @4yourcna
      @4yourcna  Před 8 lety +1

      You can do this skill without the privacy blanket, but the patient must stay covered with something (you can use the sheet, but the sheet is tucked in which makes it hard to access the legs for positioning, placing the pillows and turning). Generally, a privacy blanket is preferred because it can be moved to access each body part as needed, while maintaining warmth and privacy. The pillow between the legs is placed so that it cushions both the knees and the ankles (lengthwise). Thank you for your question.

    Hello patty,is there any difference if we don't use privacy blanket?

    • @4yourcna
      @4yourcna  Před 7 lety

      Think of it from the patient's point of view...they are inactive, dressed in a thin hospital gown and covered with a sheet. Now, how are they going to feel if you take the sheet away? Probably cold. And maybe a little exposed. But probably uncomfortable. Now, if you cover them with a blanket, it allows you to put the pillows everywhere without exposing the patient and it will keep them warm as you complete the skill. Without the blanket, you will be working around their sheet which is tucked in, making it hard to get to their legs. Yes, you can do this without a blanket as long as the patient remains covered, but it certainly makes it harder in the long run. Using a blanket allows you to access the patient and protects their right to dignity and privacy. Hope this helps!

    Hi miss Patty, just wondering do the side rails have to be up on the facing side before you turn your patient? I do apologize if this question has been asked already.

    • @4yourcna
      @4yourcna  Před 6 lety +1

      The exam specifically states that they will not grade on siderails, so if you use them for safety you will not get credit. You are required to keep the patient safe without the use of siderails by keeping them in the middle of the bed at all times. Please refer to the Clinical Skills Checklist on Prometric's website for details. Hope this helps!
