    I’m sitting in the lobby, waiting to begin my test in 10 min and I’m terrified! But if you’re looking for a good way to study, what I did was a.) watch these videos for review and then b.) I typed all 22 skills into a generator online. I would hit generate and it would give me a skill. I opened Google docs and typed exactly what I would do and say during this skill, trying to see as much as I could remember from memory. Hopefully this is a useful study technique for others!

    Today is October 21, 2021. I have been a CNA for 15 years. It was one of the best decisions that I have ever made. It is truly an honor to take care of people who aren’t able to do for themselves. I had two of the best teachers. They pushed us hard and I’m grateful to them for doing it. Congratulations to all who have taken their state boards and passed. Good luck to anyone who is waiting to take their state boards. God bless all CNA’s♥️

    Hi, thanks for a great video. Just wondering if the basin should be sprayed with disinfectant spray as you did in your previous videos, and in your student instruction book. Was that step dropped?

    • @4yourcna
      @4yourcna  Před 7 lety +5

      Disinfecting the basin is not required for the exam any longer(which is why the new videos and new skills book does not indicate this step any longer). In a clinical setting, if disinfection is required (i.e., disinfecting spray), it would be done after rinsing but before drying. And you would not want to be touching it with dirty gloves while spraying it, so setting it down in the sink is when you would disinfect. Then pick it up with a paper towel to prevent cross-contamination with your dirty gloves. For the exam, once you rinse, your gloves are wet, so using a paper towel between wet gloves while drying basin helps speed up the process. Never put anything back wet, as this provides an area for bacterial growth. The bottom of the basin is not used for direct patient care, so having the bottom of the basin touch the sink is fine. It is the inside of the basin that we are concerned with. Hope this helps!

    Hello, thank you very much for these videos. When you say, 'Gloves are not required for the exam because there is no exposure to personal skin' what exactly do you mean? The CNA is touching the hand of the patient! So is that not considered 'personal skin'? Many thanks.

    • @4yourcna
      @4yourcna  Před 7 lety +3

      Personal skin is any skin normally covered by a bathing suit (breast area and genitals). Hands are not personal skin. As long as the patient does not have any skin openings (wounds, sores, rash, incision, etc.) there is no danger to the healthcare worker who washes her hands before beginning the skill and after ending the skill. Touching skin is not dangerous. Touching body fluids and skin openings (which allow body fluids out) could potentially be dangerous, therefore gloves would be required. Hope this helps!

    • @4yourcna
      @4yourcna  Před 6 lety +2

      Since you have not washed your hands, they are not considered clean. You don't want to touch the outside of the drawer with a dirty hand (or, in this case, glove) because that drawer will be touched by clean hands later for other skills. The drawer front should never be touched with dirty hands/gloves - this is an infection control principle. It helps keep the patient's environment clean! Hope this helps!

    • @4yourcna
      @4yourcna  Před 5 lety +1

      You don't have to soak for any specific period of time for the exam. The goal is to soften any debris and make cleaning easier. This, plus much more is covered in our FREE online CNA test prep program on courses.4YourCNA.com. We hope you were successful in your state exam and wish you luck in your new career!

    While soaking the patient's hand in the basin shouldn't you use a separate basin for rinsing and washing of the hand for infection control

    • @4yourcna
      @4yourcna  Před 7 lety +3

      In a clinical setting, patients must pay for every single supply, either personally or through insurance copays. Even basins cost money! So, using 2 basins can be expensive and is not necessary as long as you don't put soap in the basin. Think about your own bathing habits...if you take a bath, you probably don't use 2 bathtubs, one to wash and one to rinse. As long as you did not add anything to the water (bubble bath, soap, bath salts, etc), that water can be used for rinsing. It's the same thing here. Soap is not added to the water in the basin, but put on the washcloth instead so that the water remains clean for rinsing. Now, if the water is obviously dirty or soiled, you should empty the basin and get new water. If the patient is on contact precautions or has an infectious disease, the care plan may be adjusted to accommodate that particular patient's needs. But this is not the case during the test and you will only have one basin to work with, so you can soak and rinse in one basin. Thank you!

    • @4yourcna
      @4yourcna  Před 6 lety +2

      Yes. Remember that everything you touch with gloves on will contaminate the gloves...please see our video on Glove Rules czcams.com/video/AQa9RYK1BI4/video.html. But a general principle is that you NEVER touch the drawer with soiled gloves or hands....this keeps the drawer clean for others to access. This is why we use paper towels between our soiled hands/gloves to open the drawer at the end of the skill. You can always use a paper towel as a barrier to gather your supplies, too, if unsure (but it's not required) If you found this presentation helpful, please don't forget to like and subscribe!

    So. question, when you turned the faucet on, you didn't grab a paper towel, is this unnecessary due to the fact that you did not have to wear gloves, or was it just for video purposes and i should still use a paper towel when touching the faucet?

    • @4yourcna
      @4yourcna  Před 6 lety

      The faucet is always considered contaminated, you touch it with dirty hands all the time (after using the bathroom, after performing care, with soiled gloves). Since the faucet is always considered dirty, it is okay to touch it with dirty hands and gloves. But you can NEVER touch the faucet with clean hands. You would have to use a paper towel if your hands are clean (such as getting the water which is demonstrated in this video) but you don't have to use a paper towel at the end of the skill when cleaning your basin (as demonstrated in the video). Our website has more information on glove use 4YourCNA.com. Thank you!

    This just a question. Aren’t you introducing soap back into the basin when you are rinsing the hand? Prometric states that you should rinse or remove soap with a clean, soap-free wet washcloth. Shouldn’t you rinse the hand over an empty space on the chux with a wet washcloth?

    • @4yourcna
      @4yourcna  Před 6 lety +2

      Putting the hand back in the basin during rinsing is acceptable. The rest of that checkpoint reads, "or using basin water if not soapy." You did not put soap into the water, so it may be used for rinsing. You will not be using the water after rinsing, so any soap that transfers to the water is not an issue. Hope this helps!

    • @4yourcna
      @4yourcna  Před 6 lety +2

      Basins are "No Soap Zones", meaning that you cannot apply soap to the water. You can, however, use that water for rinsing. You can use two basins if you want, but in most cases there will only be one basin in the testing facility. This is because patients are only issued one basin when they are admitted and getting another one will cost the patient money (they are charged for all supplies). Since you can easily do this with one basin by not putting soap in the water, this saves money, resources and time. This is reflected in Prometric's checklist, under checkpoint 5: "...rinse or remove soap using a clean, soap-free, wet washcloth or using basin water if not soapy". Hope this helps! Best of luck!

      @4yourcna  Před 7 lety +1

      For the exam, there is no specific required time. It should be long enough to soften the debris under the nails, if any exists. Usually 2-4 minutes is sufficient in a clinical setting. For the exam, since time is limited, you (and the evaluators) do not want to just stand around watching a hand soak. So, simply submerging the hand in water is sufficient for the exam. Hope this helps! Best of luck!
