If you can't celebrate a goal whats the point
People can accept an official can miss a foul or offside by having a view blocked etc, but when a VAR with many camera angles f*cks up, nobody will (and shouldn't) accept that. VAR is taking more from the PL than it adds. Watching the occasional EFL game this season made my realise how broken the VAR system is, especially for fans inside the stadium.
Var in the EFL from next season. RIP football
You think the decisions are wrong! If we accept that the rules are down to interpretation then you have to accept that maybe that official deemed it not a foul. Remember VAR is still a human in front of a camera. As long as VAR goes through the protocols and talks about it then that's fine. And if both agree it is not a foul then that is there interpretation. The fact that an independent panel of ex players and officials also says that 2 or the 3 incidents where dealt with correctly says it all.
People don't seem to understand that by keeping on moaning you are actually advocating for more technology and AI. The only way to make it ALL the same and consistent is to take out humans and make it robotic.

VAR takes away more from the game than it gives. Get rid.
It is showing the manipulation of the referees, the referees should be held accountable.
Call it for what it is specifically, the VAR ,referees, who also referee regular games are being shown up for their complicit manipulation they have had over the years, which has become a habit and had been unchecked, because they only had one chance and angle to look at it

The officiating in this country is diabolical! It simply isn’t consistent. I would prefer independent people in the VAR booth.

Again, that will still boil down to people's individuals' views. It's nearly an impossible job because there are so many different ways tackles, etc, can pan out and too many different veiws on what is a foul etc.
@@josephhall5136 The last tackle was a stone wall pen. The others could be given but it's not a travesty if they're not. The problem is they need independent people in the booth. Separate from the refs. That would be a good start.

VAR destroyed the romance of the FA Cup by disallowing Coventry's winner for a marginal offside and letting a shoddy Man Utd off the hook.
They also got a joke penalty given to them to equalise, the offside is factually correct

Offside is offside, don’t be stupid.
If VAR cannot be 100% accurate, then I would prefer the on field officials to be 100% in control. Human error is expected, but VAR is ruining the game, and infecting the game with indecision and unnecessary interruptions. I watch less football now than before VAR, it has taken the spontaneity and thrill out of the game.
Offside was brought in to stop goal hanging, not to decide if someone's toe is ahead of the defender. VAR should be used for "clear and obvious errors" such as Maradona's "hand of God" goal.
Goal hanging, are you 12? There has never been anything called goal hanging outside of the playground. Offside takes care of that. If it is offside it is offside, that's where it works. The issue is the time it takes.

It’s multiple replays for a human to come to a decision…there is no excuse to get any decision wrong
It's so they can influence the outcomes of games to ensure elite clubs play in the elite competitions. It's called corruption, look it up.

I completely agree. VAR has ruined football.
It's not the individual decisions, it's consistency. When you see an incident as a player, fan, manager, ref, you should know that the incident is a red, a penalty, a foul, advantage, whatever.
But what we have is a closed doors panel scrambling to justify why 2 out of 3 incidents in one game were not penalties, when the exactly same incidents were deemed penalties in another game.
If it's a penalty in one, it's a penalty in another. If not, someone needs to be apologising and doing better and that's the refereeing team.
For me the worst thing is not feeling I can celebrate a goal anymore. As an Arsenal fan, I didn’t celebrate Saka’s 2nd goal on Sunday as I feared Tottenham would be awarded a pen (‘it wasn’t a pen but that doesn’t mean VAR would agree).
The Coventry goal that wasn’t is probably the most agonising example of a euphoric moment ruined. Even if the decision was correct it needs to be an instantaneous decision so the celebrations can also be instantaneous. Personally I would have let that goal stand and (reluctantly) the Tottenham goal too. If you have to draw lines, it isn’t a ‘’clear and obvious error’’.
The argument to justify VAR and all the delays and joyous moments cancelled out was that at least the decisions would be correct. As we’ve seen numerous times (ask any Wolves fan), they’re not!

Handball will always be a problem to interpret ,but the offside should be changed to clear daylight between the forward and defender ,that would help the officials and eliminate most if not all of the mistakes .
As fans, we can all forgive an official on the pitch for missing something, we get it the game is fast and views are often obstructed. But what is incredibly frustrating, is when after the fact VAR and the fans watching on TV, can see a clear and obvious error that is not called back and corrected. There's been so many games the last few seasons where you are left with no other conclusion other than a fear of going against and undermining a referee or corruption.

With VAR referees have absolutely no excuse to get crucial outcomes wrong. Instead what they do is almost make up the rules as they go along, to the point they admitted they'd have accepted the opposite decision if told to by the ref on the pitch.
The Problem we had was with Referees, So we brought in VAR. which is run by Referees. I wonder what the common problem is there.
I mean that 3rd penalty shout was a clear cut penalty AND red card. Almost blown out his achilles. How anyone can talk themselves out of that is unimaginable

Welcome to the club they dont like clubs challenging decisions or refs
They should use American MLB rules for replay. The manager is the only one that can initiate the replay, if he goes to replay and is wrong he isn’t able to use replay the rest of the game. And they have to decide right away if they want to go to replay, they can’t look at a replay and decide 30 seconds later.. Calculating centimeters when nobody is claiming offsides is not what replay should be used for, it takes the joy out of the game for the fans. It should be used for blatant miss calls that the manager is 95% sure he will be correct with.
Var is influencing results rather then correct officiating more so then not.
VAR is supposed to fix big errors not over analyse tiny marginal calls.
Simple solution to the problem is the use the automated offside that they had in the world cup and use in la liga The frustration over offside calls is generally due to the time it takes to make them. Then allow managers 1 challenge per game and if it's successful they keep it if it isn't they lose it and doesn't matter what happens they can't get it checked.
This will result in managers only challenging a decision or non-decision if it is an absolutely horrific decision that there is no debate with and is they won't even think of potentially wasting a challenge for a somewhat marginal call.
I hate the idea of challenges. The refs should simply have the tools to aid in getting every decision right. None of this pub drama talk after gossiping about if that was a foul or if that goal should have been given. But until they actually understand how to draw a straight line and not use a tv broadcast angle (also surprised they never use overhead shots for these analysis) they'll sully everything VAR is meant to be.
How can this piece of tech be the only genuinely faulty kit set when every other similar system just works like Hawkeye

The first thing they need to change is the offside rule. the amount of games ruined because a player is a millimetre offside by todays standards, yet has zero advantage and goals are chalked off is disgraceful.
Yes they should just change it to clear space between the players, everything else is onside.

If it was anything like other sports software and analytical tech like Hawkeye and the actually useful goal line tech we wouldn't have these problems. But for whatever reason someone probably put in options to allow bozos like the refs to have input in decision making.
If they wanted, they could train a system to even understand what is a foul with footage and have those automated for correct decisions.
But these refs are the most inconsistent in any sport, the guys in VAR barely even know the rules or even when's the appropriate time or point to draw a line (which is hardly ever straight on)
Keep it for Factual stuff ie offside, bin it for things that can be interpreted differently like handball etc, the ref can do that live

The football people were willing to exchange certain aspects of celebrating goals in order for the VAR technology to WORK and remove speculation.
So far it has been a bad trade, hence all the complaints.
It’s clear VAR has influenced once again who will be champions this year. Liverpool have LOST at least 7 points against main rivals which are most blatant as they come (Diaz against Spurs / Odegaard basketball handball / Doku kong-fu kick in McAllister). With these points and confidence Liverpool would have already walked this league by now - even with all injuries / chances missed.
You will find very few VAR decisions against MC most are in their favour and this has been for several years now. Klopp is the most unluckiest manager!
How is that “at least 7 points”? Even if your maths was right, it isn’t btw, you still have to score the penalties!
You can’t count them at 100% definite lost points, they are *potentially* lost post, but that’s all

Talking title chasing teams here. Penalties not 100% but you could say highly likely 99% chance of a goal at Anfield and against your title rivals cannot be underestimated psychologically!

It is the offside rule which needs changing. You should not be offside if it is close. I suggest a much wider gap should be allowed, not a ridiculously small amount. The game is about goals not goals being ruled out far too much.
However much of a "gap" there should be, there's always gonna be an element of subjectivity there. There's nothing wrong with the rule (which since it was invented has been trending towards giving more and more advantage to attackers), but they should stop letting VAR make the final decision and instead stick with the original on-field decision if it's too tight for the ref to make a decision upon second viewing (i.e. not an obvious error). Ditch the stupid line drawing and let the on field ref look at a still image

It has gotten worse and worse with Howard Webb at the top. No, it was not great under Riley, but it was mostly comprehensible.

What is the reason not to scrap it? I would suggest a large majority would prefer it gone so what is stopping the Premier League saying 'we tried it, we think it does more harm than good, we're going to get rid'? The key thing Ange said which I imagine many will agree with, it's stopped people either celebrating as the normally would or celebrating at all. Surely that above all else is there reason to kick it to touch.
I've started getting in to Championship football this season, and I think it's because there's no VAR to spoil the specticle. It's genuinely refreshing watching a penalty not be awarded and a player jumping up because they know they can't change the decision. VAR has made cheating in the Premier League worse. That along with things like the head injury rule which allows defenders to pretend they've had a whack in the head to stop a goal scoring opportunity. All of it is damaging the game.
Goal line technology works, extend it around the lines so the ref knows when the ball is out of play at all times. Automated offsides seems to make sense. Apart from that, I don't think technology should be in the game.
In rugby and cricket, they play the audio on TV of the video referee/umpire. Do that in football and just watch how much more professional and consistent VAR gets

There was no field error coz referee saw everything and decided to give a goal and then be was called by VAR for what and yet there's no error
@@kevinokuku9153 right clear and obvious. They said the same think about the Doku kick. Oliver said he saw it. And VAR said they saw Doku touched it as well. Even though we all saw he didn’t touch it first.
So var agreed with Oliver on that instance even though Oliver’s on field memory was wrong.

It's funny that in other sports the video assistant works very well; I'm still not sure how the PL have stuffed it up so much. The constant communication must be a nightmare for the on field referee, not having standard communication is also baffling instead it's like two mates chatting in a pub. If it was up to me I'd leave it for checking offside goals (assuming they communicate properly) and let teams appeal for big decisions if they feel they are wrong and the video referee reviews it on their own without sending people running to monitors. 1 appeal per game for each team.

Poor performance by the Ref and and an unwillingness to "hang a mate out to dry" (at best) from the VAR shows to everyone (except the PGMOL and EPL bigwigs because that would be like Turkeys voting for Xmas) that the standard of officiating is not of a high enough standard and that the VAR implementation is not fit for purpose.
Ref's should not be protected and should be made to justify their decisions especially if they are shown to be incorrect. VAR discussions should be open and available to all in the stadium and to the broadcasters thus eliminating any possible call of bias or confusion as to how a decision was made.
Incompetence should be neither accepted or rewarded.
We need more transparency with decisions. Let us hear their VAR discussion in game and see what they are looking at.
Get rid of the drawn line for offside. It’s finessing to a much greater margin than the rule was intended to address - if the eye can see its off (clear and obvious) then call it in the booth. If you can’t tell then let it stand - we don’t need to get down to a toenail difference - it’s ludicrous. In terms of penalties - the VAR officials are scared to overturn their colleagues. In fact they don’t do any favours for themselves or their colleagues. Fans sit at home and see it yet these officials don’t. I get there will be errors but some of them are farcical.
In Rugby the fans hear what the ref if asking, then the person on the equivalent var repeats it and then he gives the answer after a short review so why can`t the same process be implemented into football ? !!!!
I live in Poland and although the Polish league is not the same level as the Premiership the conversation between the ref, linesmen and Var officials are recorded and often recorded for the public. I believe there is less controversy so why can’t the same be done in the UK?

See the FA Cup Semi last week. Coventry goal being rule out for offside by VAR, because it was offside. Yet pundits, complained because they'd have preferred the more entertaining outcome of United being knocked out.
I would have loved it as well, but the reality is VAR meant the right decision was made. That's var in a nutshell. It's the UK media that love drama and pundits interpretations that are the real problem.
@@zj9cz English fans complain because refing is simple bad. Even with the supposed aid of VAR they still get it wrong, which is mostly because they have poor standards of understanding and working under time constraints.
They would rather not be critiqued and give political answers, but even other section of football like the managers and players are questioned and largely talked about.
In a perfect world, refs wouldn't be mentioned because then they would have done a good job. And it's not like refs aren't praised for good performances, simply put the bad heavily out weighs the good and their inability to properly apply VAR with their own footballing officiating brings their entire reputation down.
VAR in England doesn't mean the right decision will be made, but with Hawkeye you can 99% guarantee a correct decision will be made, and if it can't the point to be replayed if an officiating error was made.
I would love a fully automated, no wrong decision made football game. Where no incorrect yellow is given or when the ball is given to the wrong side because a lineo couldn't tell who last kicked it out. There have been screens in and around football for decades, just use them and do it properly.

All three were penalties for Nottingham Forest, similar incidents they have been given as penalties, on more than one occasion this season.
It's a FARCE, and the media are complicit in conflagrating the issues, by not addressing the obvious biased manipulative refereeing decisions, making VAR referees have too much of an influence on games by choosing what to intervene on and not.
The clubs should be given the chance to request specific video reviews by the ref.

I agree that VAR should be more transparent in revealing why decisions are made. The referee and VAR officials should be on mic with the crowd able to hear their thought process on the loud speakers. I think each team should have one chance in every game to challenge the decisions made, with a panel of ex-pro's to then review it.
The problem Simon misses is that Forest have had dozens of decisions being wrong this season. It's been over multiple matches, so much so that Forest have only been awarded ONE penalty all season. The issue has built and the feelings of unfairness have grown - this isn't just about the Everton game.
Decisiions will always cause anger at some point. In the Championship there is no VAR. Last week Norwich scored a clear off side goal against Bristol City. They gained a point. That 1 point may well mean the difference betweeen a play off spot or not. I think VAr has been decent..
As a non-englishman, I've been watching the Prem for years and years. I always liked watching it more than my own country's competition. I have a certain subscription to watch the Prem, pay for it every month. But once this season is over, I'm done. I'm sick of it. I wanna watch Football, NOT VAR-ball. NOT attention-seeking referees. And as long the Prem can't offer me that, I'm not gonna pay for it anymore. F*** it.

If offside cannot be seen by the naked eye, then what player on a football pitch can see if he is offside by 1cm, by 2cm?
No Manchester United fan would go home thinking they'd been robbed by the Coventry goal not being ruled offside - it's not visible to the naked eye.
That's why technology is brought it, marginal offsides and no goals.
Your delusional, the Man U fans would have gone balistic. Offside is the 1 rule that has no Grey areas. You are either onside or offside. These calls can be huge for a club. Example Arsenal Vs. Spurs. A pen was given to Arsenal and Spur tied the game up giving Spurs a crucial point and denying Arsenal of 2. The problem was that Spurs were offside seconds before the pen and it was missed. That missed call ment that Spurs qualified for Champions League by 1 point over Arsenal. Had Var been in use it would have been Arsenal qualifying for Champoins League and receiving the money for that not Tottenham. That's a big amount of money that went to the wrong team.

However there is simply no sporting gain by a player being offiside by 1cm... If offside cannot be judged by the human eye, how can a sporting advantage exist..?
Football is policing offsides invisible to the naked eye, and yet handballs, penalties, even stoppage time all remain subjective.
As an example, speeding tickets are not handed out for driving at 30.01mph for a reason... Who/what could gauge that?
@@thearsenalmisfit2414 they complained until Rashford was offsides by a mile and ran along side the ball for over 20 yards. But since he didn’t touch it. We can deem he had no effect on anyone in city’s defense on that play….
@@joefernandes4256 The whole body for offside is such as weird and obtuse thing to analysis. Half the time you've got one player going in the opposite direction of the defenders, so in todays rules the attacker is already at a disadvantage of being offside.
If you are marginally offside, then you really shouldn't count as being offside, because then most of your body will be inline with the last defender, with most defenders shaping up differently ie sideways and feet planted forward, or fully facing forward.
And half the time these refs pick the most random of points to analysis, when dimensionally no player is built the same.
Not to mention, you need marginal tolerance for decisions, what range to consider a hard offside for calibration so 2.5cm or 5cm etc. I mean, we're penalising players for have larger feet or being wider than the last defender.

Literally, why can't the fourth official be the liaison between VAR and the on-field referee? You could literally have the fourth official go to the screen and make an informed decision, and assist the referee.
It works brilliantly in Rugby Union and League.

Not sure that VAR is statistically better, if there are figures out there, I think they are likely to be supplied by the PGMOL, in which case they're scoring their own homework. From a feel point of view, it seems that every match in a given round, since VAR was introduced, there is at least one controversy. I don't recall this being the case before VAR came in.

Its not the technology. Its the people. The officiating this year has been exceptionally poor and inconsistent. The 'material error' standard for VAR gives too much inconsistency and gives officials a way out from making big calls. The number and magnitude of the mistakes from referees this year has been baffling so people see that VAR has failed in raising the standard. No one wants to bully the ref or hear conspiracies buy we do need to be a lot more honest when officials are under performing and discuss how standards should be raised
It is not for the people affected by VAR to find a better solution. The technology brings an artificial element to the game which is jarring to the audience, and players. And, the implementation by the officials is not consistent - this introduces a randomness which is unacceptable in a sport centered around skill, strategy, and individual inspiration.
The technology in its current state doesn't remove any subjectivity from the game that's the problem, you've just given the refs some broken toys (a ruler and a low resolution camera) to fiddle around with and play guess work half the time, and it's PGMOL who are the mafia, allowing a culture where their authority is absolute regardless of how damaging it is to a club or how much it skews the proper result of a game
People keep talking about VAR this and VAR that... The officials are damaging the game in the same way they have always done. Without VAR, British people often overlooked their mistakes (yes, because in Portugal, Spain, Italy, Greece the simpathy levels are much lower), even when they could see they weren't really mistakes. But the show went on... What VAR did was expose the incompetence and malfeasance of the officials. So the system isn't the problem. Neither is the technology. The officials are.

I don't get how anyone has said that the first foul wasn't a penalty. He literally kicked his foot from under him. Bearing in mind as a Wolves fan i would love to see Gibbs-White back where he belongs in the championship i actually want forest to go down but i can't actually come up with a credible reason to not give it.
The game of football has survived perfectly well in this country for decades without VAR. VAR is not improving the game, it is ruining the game. I'm a Forest fan so you might say I'm biased, but it's not just my club that has been negitivley affected by VAR, the majority of the Prem clubs have had ridiculous and unjust decsions go against them thanks to VAR and it has to stop. I can accept losing games due to a bad performence or simply being beaten on the day by a better team, but I can't and won't accept losing points by a flawed system...just get rid of it!
The men in the booth are more concerned about embarrassing their mate on the pitch than getting the call right. So, no, VAR is not going to help get big decisions right.
ill tell you why var is here its because it gives a football match more tension and sceptical to those watching on tv and broadcasting deals make up the lion share of funding. VAR has gotten worse not better that's not by accident and now its blatantly being used to change scores in matches. 8 games this season have had the score lines directly affected by VAR mistakes.

Var is destroying football. The main aspects that you don't need special equipment, tools, etc. The less technology and equipment the better. We have American football will all their fuss, slowly becoming that kind of sport.

I lost all confidence in the referees when dean came out and said what he said. Nobody questions that there was no investigation to uncover refereeing standards after that.

The technology is fine but it’s being incompetently used. Refs don’t make decisions because they think they will be bailed out, VAR doesn’t want to call out their mate on the pitch so they don’t make a decision. Thus we get the worst standard of refereeing in PL history.
Webb needs to go, PGMOL needs to be restructured with two independent teams one for on field and one for VAR each specialist in their field of officiating. They meet and review how they work together at senior level but are separate in how they are managed. Just like Pilots and ATC or Police and Despatch Team, none of them do each others jobs swapping from one week to the next.
As for Taylor, Attwell and the review team there were 2 clear and obvious errors, 3rd everyone accepts as Young doesn’t get the ball and Taylor should have been told to go to the screen. The others we all accept are subjective although most ex players think the 1st is a pen, because Young kicks through Reyna from behind and is never going to win the ball. The 2nd is a clear and obvious error, because Taylor touches his right shoulder indicating to players that’s where the ball hit Young, thus he doesn’t see handball and hasn’t made a subjective decision. VAR should correct him and send him to screen not make the refereeing decision as Taylor is the ref.
It’s the handball audio that would have been interesting to hear, Webb throws a bone with one hand with the audio on the 3rd and buries the incompetence with the other hand. It’s a scam using deflection and sleight of hand which has been going on all season.
All you need to do is watch two weeks of the PL to know how the decisions are constantly conflicted and changed from game to game.
It needs to go starting with the man in charge Webb. Poor officiating no consistency they have cost so many teams points this year. Ruined the football experience
If you have to use lines for offside it’s a goal
Keep thr goal-line technology, get rid of VAR. The incompetence and corruption and inconsistency is ruining the sport.
Keep goal line technology, bin the rest. When offside was controlled by the refereeing team, a goal could be instantly celebrated. Not anymore, its being referred to another refereeing team to accept responsibility. Stadiums are being dummed down and the spontaneity is lost.
I repeat it is not VAR, it's the Referees, the have no integrity, the are making it personal preference, not a standard across each game.
Strange how it’s not nearly as bad in the BL… it’s like the PL just can’t do it well. Side note: La Liga is worse.
Pochettino is criticising the VAR instead of the incompetent officials who are failing correct decisions in games. He knows he'll be banned if he criticises them. We shouldn't deflect criticism for VAR when, in fact, it's the officials who are in charge that can't do their job properly.
Jim White is wriong about Ang, as he has said that several times this season so he hasn't altered his view after the Arsenal game at all.
that forest 2nd penalty decision was not a mistake, i havent seen one comment from anyone in the footballing world that thinks it wasnt a penalty. its corruption and it needs to be called out. first of all the whole var hub for that game need to be sacked instantly and that kind of thing should not happen ever again, it was embarrassing. that would be a start.

Arsenal handball v liverpool, man city karate kick v liverpool, spurs offside v liverpool. All against top sides and liverpool on the receiving end of horrific errors v title rivals. But they just waive these errors away. Titles are decided by tiny margins so to make these errors is absolutely not acceptable. Just like the ref not allowing gapko to score after the keepers F up, v west ham...wtf, possible 12 points taken away from liverpool who are the biggest victim of the pgmol.

It's killing the spectacle. After all football is merely entertainment. VAR is currently an outrage machine
The only thing to moan about is the cost or the impact on match time; no one can argue that more correct decisions aren’t being made - they blatantly are. Football needs to decide if the improvement is worth the hassle. Moaning about poor decisions is not a reason alone to ditch VAR, as without it, incorrect decisions will go up.
