- Unboxing, testing and reviewing the 15L Vevor ultrasonic cleaner. We'll do a direct comparison to the Central Machinery unit commonly sold at Harbor Freight and test the two with a carburetor cleaning competition.

I have the same Vevor. Another tip: if you have small parts and don't want to use a lot of solvent/cleaner, you can put the parts and solvent in a cheap plastic resealable container, then put it in the tank, with the tank filled with water. Also, works great with Evaporust in the tank.
I’m a big fan of placing parts in plastic bags when trying to conserve Evaporust or vinegar.
I haven't seen evaporust tried yet.
But I can say with top rated cleaners they are awesome.
Because I'm mobile small engine maintenance and repair I got a small one. It's definitely the difference between the pros and the Joe's.
Fresh water in the cooker and solution with the parts is the hack but I have not tried it yet.
What I do know is, get a good one.
And get one big enough.
Don't fool around to much with the cleaning agent. I've heard tail that oxyclean is moving right along.
Recap, get a good one, get one big enough and use a good cleaning agent. After that use smaller containers to put the parts in and fill the cooker with water.
My hack is to filter the solution with very fine automotive paint filters, super cheap, they just sit in a funel.
And of course don't let the cooker freeze up with fluid in it.
Glad I found this video comparing the two. Have been on the fence picking up the harbor freight one for a while now but after watching this, I just ordered the Vevor on in the same size you have
Add more water to help keep it quiet. I've found that if the water is a little low, the machines are waaaaay more noisy. And fill your tank with water and clean the parts in smaller containers (put the containers in the basket to keep them off the bottom). That'll save you some cleaning solution. Of course that doesn't work for the big parts, but for small stuff it's awesome. And as someone else mentioned, EvapoRust in a hot ultrasonic works miracles.
Nice review! I just ordered a similar one. It wasn't until near the end of the video I took a good look at your Kewaunee Football sweatshirt. I graduated from Denmark! I graduated in 81, about the time they moved our football program to the Packerland Conference. Also, I was in Kewaunee last July 9th and checked out the car show and all of the vintage sleds on display. Very cool.

Its just a scaled up version of their $60 small unit, so the comparison is pretty fair other than capacity
FWIW: HarborFreight now sells a Ultrasonic cleaner in the style of the Vevor, although only 6 Liter capacity.

The smaller one is designed for jewelry and such. The ultrasonic cleaner works anywhere the fluid can get to.
Smaller one is designed to make tea with loose leaf tea, just repurposed. Called a tea ball or tea strainer I believe.

I hated cleaning out my ultrasonic cleaner, so what i did was fill it with water. i collected jars of various sizes and put the parts and cleaner in the jars and put the jars in the ultrasonic cleaner and turned it on, and what i expected that would happen actually happened. Everything was clean when it came out. Each jar was taken out and everything inside was clean and the water was still clean. Now i leave the cleaner in the jars until it gets to dirty then it gets disposed of i use LA's totally awesome in the jars because it is $100.00- $1.25 a quart and it is also all natural, but it works great and i don't have to clean the machine.
Don't get sucked into the Vevor hype. They don't manufacture anything and are just a private label. You can usually find the identical tool for less without the Vevor markup.

I have the smaller unit and I've had it for years. I use it for cleaning locks and firearm parts, it's awesome! This year was the first time I used it to clean jewelry with an actual jewelry cleaning solution; I was blown away. I have never seen gold, white gold, and silver blindingly shiny, nor have I seen diamonds sparkling unless they were in a display case. I may pick up that larger unit for some larger lock projects 😁
What cleaning solution do you use? I just bought one and hell I don’t even see bubbles😅
@@terrygaskin4718most things I clean with Simple green and hot water. For jewelry I use isonic CSGJ01.
I own and use a Vevor. The heater works just fine. Warming water takes time, fill it with cool tools or what not and yeah it will take a while. I have run the Vevor for two day's on an almost constant runs. Dirty tools, greasy parts and the wires jewelry all came clean. I am happy with the purchase.
I have the same 15L Vevor. A big cat litter bucket or small garbage can fits nicely if you need room for something taller, just make sure to always fill up to the water line in the Vevor. A bucket full of water will vibrate the same resting on the bottom of the tank even if its waterline is way above the tank's water line. I was able to fit half of a whole dusty fan blade of an oscillating fan doing that.

Most things I put into sealed jars or bottles. Anything that won't fit in one I'll always use a bucket. I've never put anything dirty into the tank itself.
I’d like to see this. I’m guessing you put a tall container inside of the vevor, filled the container to the desired level and put water between the container and the interior of the vevor to the vevor fill line.
@@geohazel4984 Correct. My typical go to is an 35lb cat litter square bucket that has a lid. I have two cats, so I have a bunch laying around. These buckets fit perfect into the 15L Vevor with or without the basket. I fill the bucket with whatever and rest it on the bottom of the tank, then I fill between the tank and bucket with water to the line.
The last time I used my ultrasonic was two months or so ago. I had to replace some catch finger thingies on one of the shafts in my lawnmower's transmission, so I degreased the whole thing. One bucket had a mix of water and degreaser for the aluminum clamshell, and another had a gallon of acetone for the steel gears and everything else. I used the ultrasonic on both buckets a few times. Normally, you'd never want to put something like acetone in an ultrasonic, but sealed in a bucket, it was fine and it never got dirty.
I have the 6L VEVOR with the dial controls. So far, so good. Cleans nasty range brass well.

Glad it helped. I've put many hours on mine. Everything still works as it should and I'm still amazed at the job it does. As far as I'm concerned, I've already got my money's worth. I think longevity will always be a concern with these companies that seem to manufacture everything under the sun, but so far so good. Thanks for watching!
Honestly I've had a very good experience with vevor products so far. I bought their pump tree sprayer, thermal fogger and chainsaw mill abd I've been impressed with it all.
I have the Harbor Freight unit, I only use it for fuel injctors and fuel filter elements, it works,but I sometimes restart it couple of times.I also use vinegar in mine. If I were going to clean a carb like those, I would disasemble them and throw the bodies in a regular parts washer then do the jets and small components in the ultrasonic.
The 'mesh-ball' thing, is just a holder for tea-leaves to put in your cup, that's been repurposed. I might need to find one of those. :)
The little ball is a Tea ball.
It's normally used for making tea.
I have the .8 liter unit. It works great to clean knives, glasses, vape pens, and fishing reels.
I got both too, what a difference in cleaning with the vevor. Best cleaner I found is Fabuloso purple . Does not darken aluminum and makes it super bright .
Thanks, I'll have to give the fabuloso a shot! Right now I'm mostly just using dawn dish soap and it doesn't work too bad lol.

I'm surprised that Fabuloso cleans anything, I thought it was 90% fragrance. Just makes your clothes smell like they're clean...
With the smaller unit, get the jewelry cleaning solution it is designed to be used with, and use the unit to clean only jewelry and small machinery parts. You can get the jewelry and small parts cleaned more economically if you put the items in small, sealable plastics bags(no air left in them), and then add the bags to plain hot water your pour into the machine. The bags will let the ultrasonic waves through the sides of the bags and clean the items; the bags will contain the dirt that comes off; the cleaning fluid is conserved, and may be filtered and/or otherwise reusable. The tank, having only come in contact with plain hot water, shouldn't get dirty.
What I have used with great success is Cascade automatic dishwasher powder. Don't use the packets it's got to be the powder. A tablespoon to a full container works great doesn't seem to darken anything and really it's cheap. A box will last a long time
This kinda like putting a car up against a pickup truck in an RV towing test. Both can do it but 1 is meant for that duty towing. But if you put them head to head towing a small 4x6 trailer both will work perfectly. But the correct tool for the job. I have the small one and it works perfectly for small carbs, tools, jewelry, and other small items.
Better put, but exactly what I was going to say. Not comparing two like items. Also, bet the HF one is considerably less costly.
VERY enlightening! As the plan is, an ultrasonic unit is going to be bought for cleaning bike chains and pistol parts, this video is quite useful!!
usually larger units have more power than smaller units fair comparison would be 2 units same size would be the only fair way to compare
Decades ago, we loaded a cleaner with fine thread SS bolts, filled it with solution, and left it over night. Next day, the bolts touching each other had machined away their threads.
I had 2 of the Vevor and they work good when they work, both control boards stopped working after about 9 months or less, will buy one with manual control knobs next time
I have the Vevor 30Ltr ,and use it for my GSXR1100 / 750 etc Bank of 4 carbs in at once, works great.

I have the 30 L model I have learned that simple green discolors aluminum. So I use simple green pro (the purple one) doesn’t hurt my firearms or carburetor. I use the biggest pickle jars I can find and put parts in it to clean. That way I don’t have to change the main fluid as often. Well if I put bigger items in like …I fit a Honda 70 gas tank i(restoring barn find) in to clean out the rust
Glass containers work better than plastic for allowing the waves to penetrate
I use the water from my dehumidifier to fill the unit

I have a smaller Vevor that I purchased for cleaning small engine carburetors. Does an excellent job, seems to be well built. Be advised:: some cleaning/degreaser solutions will react badly with aluminum and rubber parts. To be safe i wash the crud off the outside of carbs before disassembly. The i use Dawn dishwashing liguid as my degreaser. Works very good but mat take longer.
The "Vevor" unit is just a generic ultrasonic cleaner, with a "Vevor" sticker on it - there are many units for sale with the same controller & electronics. One point I would make, is the 'bowl' is glued into the chassis, but the glue is not great. Be aware that at some point, the bowl will probably come unstuck and you can damage the ultrasonic transducer & heater etc, if the chassis falls away - always try and lift the unit from underneath.
From what I've seen, all of Vevor's stuff is branded generic goods.
I mean, that's a legitimate way to run a business if you want, but its best for the customers to know.

Have you, or could you, measure the actual Wattage of your ultrasonic cleaners. My Creworks cleaner is listed as 180 watts for the ultrasonic transducers. When I measure it with a Kill-a-Watt meter using only the ultrasonic function of the cleaner, it measures between 110 and 135 watts. I would be interested in knowing what your model is rated as and the actual power consumption. You posted a great video and I appreciate the information you provided.

Ive got the Vevor 22 liter....and I've e used simple green as well but it doesnt bring the aluminum bright silver....discolors it...
I do remove the bowls to make sure they get cleaned....
I've had jets plugged solid and cleaned perfectly after 30 mins...

Most ultrasonic cleaners will do the job. The thing i have found from experience that makes the biggest difference is the solution you use. Truth be told the best solution i've used now is a 50/50 mix of Pine Sol and Water.
Side note i have one of the Vevor units as well.
I have a ONEZILI Ultrasonic Cleaner 3L I got off Amazon. Probably the same manufacturer. They look nice, but NOTHING on mine is stainless steel. I made the silly mistake of using some acid solution in mine, to attempt to strip some chrome plating off a piece. Sorta worked, but also etched the tank badly. I may buy this Vevor model, and stick to Simple Green, or similar.
The Habor freight is a domestic cleaner for small items ! The Vevor is a 15 ltr commercial unit
I NOT a Harbor Freight fan, but your comparison is apples to oranges. Harbor Freight also make a larger ultrasonic cleaner.

I don’t understand why people put filthy things into their cleaning baths. It’s not hard to scrape and wipe the worst of the muck off the parts which makes the process cleaner in the end. It also makes your consumables last longer and costs less.
I have used the HF unit for years. Yes you have to rotate parts. I have cleaned many carbs and I have gotten my monies worth. Maybe if I was in the business of cleaning carbs a bigger unit may be worthwhile. If you are in the business you also need a bead-blaster machine and a good buffing machine.
What model vevor is it
I have several of those style ultrasonic cleaners and you get wut you pay for , now I was lucky enough to come across a automotive engine machine that went out of business and bought there ultrasonic cleaners and those are the cats ass
The small harbor freight cleaner does work but you have to run it through the machine many times for it to work. I have put some nasty carbs in the small harbor freight cleaner and it looked like new but it took hours
I'd agree with you on that. It's not that it doesnt work, I just dont think it works well enough on anything I'd put in it to justify the $80 price tag.
Was wondering what you was gonna do with the harbor freight one because it would be nice to have one to clean jewelery and coins seems like it would be good for that and I keep telling myself I'm going to buy one but there just so expensive but if I was going to buy one to clean carbs I would definitely buy the vevor from what I'm seeing on you're video thanks for the helpful information
I keep the harbor freight unit around for smaller items and it does work okay. It just doesn't have the guts to remove the caked on junk you find on the outside of carbs. The vevor does a much better job on that. Thanks for watching!

The harbor freight one definitely has a better heat source but the actual ultra sonic part seems to fall flat on its face when compared to the Vevor.
Yeah. I wanted a small one but maybe there's something about the size that also help with cleaning. Maybe you just can't put to much power into a little space, or maybe the power is maintained better in a larger volume. What do you think, is it the size or just the quality or something else?
@@shatterthemirror8563 I think it's a wattage thing. The HF unit is 160W whereas the Vevor is 360W, so the ultrasonic portion is literally twice as powerful. Im sure the ultrasonic frequency also has an effect on how well it works but I'm not super well versed in how all that works. It does look like size matters though as the smaller size Vevor units have less overall power as well. The 2L vevor is only 60W.
The small vevor's performance is nowhere near close to the vevor in this video. 60W vs 360W is a very significant difference.
I use the simple green Aircraft cleaner. It won't corode aluminum. I think it works great. Small zip lock with cleaner and the tank straight water saves a lot of cleaner.
Where I live the 30L Vevor is not much more expensive than the 15L Vevor. Would you say for motorcycle parts the 30L is worth getting over the 15L? I dont think it would be as most bike parts are small enough it seems but just wondering your opinion is. I have the space for the 30L but not sure if its necessary.
I have a 3.2L Vevor I bought in 2017 that has held up well, and is easy to store on top of a kitchen cabinet. There hasn’t been many times I’ve wanted a larger tank. They do show tank dimensions on the label.
I have the harbor freight one also and use simply green in it. I've done several carbs in it but disassembled them first and it cleans fine. But it is way to small. I might check out the 30l vevor
What kind of cleaning fluid did you use?
Different machines have different frequencies which are better for some things and worse for others. Its best you keep both machines. Maybe use the Harbor Freight one for initial cleaning since it holds less fluid and is easier to empty and then have the big machine for the final clean.
i have the same one. only problem i had was the ball valve leaks. mine did not come with the barbed fitting , mine was a threaded valve ,so i put a pipe plug in it
Good call. So far no leaks with this one. I've used it about 5 times thus far and I dont have a bad thing to say about it.
I used 1/2 pex ring crimper for my unit. It fit perfect.
Just curious how well the Yamaha F60 carbs fit in the 15L. I was thinking about the 10L mostly for space reasons. I have the little HF one as well and its just toooooo small!
You could fit two at a time in it if not more. I just did one at a time when I did the F60 so as to not mix up any parts. (Not that it would matter in that case, but cant be too careful)
Just an observation. What did the instructions say about not using it below a certain capacity?
Per the directions, the unit is not supposed to be operated below the 3/4 level.
I've got the HF cleaner and I use a large commercial unit at work. There's no comparison. The HF unit may be fine for removing grime from jewelry but its not worth much on greasy parts.
When it comes to carburetors though, I still don't see using an ultrasonic cleaner being as good as the old Hydroseal method or even a couple cans of 2+2 carb cleaner or equivalent. I've yet to find a water based solvent for the ultrasound unit that will break down varnish from old gas or remove corrosion from small brass parts.
try using gasoline in a container inside the cleaner unit. water in the unit itself, then a container with gas in it for the varnish.

ive used less flammable diesel, kerosene and wd40 or liquid wrench which cleaned great for me.
in the vevor was just water (it stays clean doing its job) to the full line. [still loud, but I run it outside] ;)
and yeah I drain it in winer as even the shop gets cold as outside is around 0 Fahrenheit
Pinsol will get the varnish off.
You CAN damage things in an ultrasonic cleaner. A quick test to see if the ultrasonic power works is to put a piece of aluminum foil in it and watch it cut tiny holes pretty quickly.

I have a vevor 22L the only issue I have is I wish there was a button to over ride the timer so you can just leave it running as long as you want the 30 minute thing is a pain I use it to remove rust and it has to run a quite awhile for that. I have a smaller one made by a company called Branson and that one is well built just small.
I straight wired the timer in my tiny Hornady badged USC. It is a high voltage circuit,I did a little dance!
Your video couldn't come at a better time. I'm in the market for one. Your video has shown me the way I should go. Is Simple Green the best solution to use?
It all depends on what you're cleaning. It seems simple green is tough on brass and aluminum, but in general its been a good all purpose cleaner for me.
Put a gasket on the lid, it should quiet it down.
Is the vevor usable with hear protection or do you still hear the mess. I have tinnitus but was considering buying the 2l model for glasses and stuff... But if the noise level is past earplugs +protective headphones i better not
I think its bearable without hearing protection, it's just very annoying in my opinion. I think you'd be fine with earplugs and even better with some nice noise cancelling earmuffs. I still often just let it run and go find something else to do for 30 minutes.

That little cage ball is for steeping tea.
Simple Green makes a different formula for aluminum and brass that’s purple in color. They recommend not using the original green formula for those metals.

Always add to max level...use distilled water... Efficiency increased and prevents damage to the ultrasonic generator. Use a pan or large beaker so you don't contaminate the bath. Dirt/minerals build up at liquid /air interface will reduce efficiency

Researching ultrasonic cleaners i read that 70'C is the ideal temp. Just an FYI.
The optimum working temperature is in between 60 C to 70 C. It also depend on the used solutions design temperature. 🙂

When cleaning carbs you have to be careful wut chemical you use it'll turn your carbs black if you use the wrong cleaner or leave it in too long

by the way my Hornady Sonic Cleaner states to fill the basin up until the cases are covered NOT to the max every time so your idea of using plastic containers is "mute"

Don't Add Cleaner. Add only water & put cleaner in a ziplock bag with the Part. It will Keep The Machine Clean. Just offering a suggestion
I’ve had 3 H Fs burn up in no time flat. A big professional unit is the only way to go.

I've been doing the same, otherwise yeah it takes forever to warm up especially in the middle of winter.
you should do that anyway to prolong the life of the heating element. It's the first thing that fails.

The only vevor product I ordered from amazon was seriously damaged and missing parts. Is Vevor just a brand they stick on damaged junk?
What really irks the crap outta me is that I have the Central Machinery machine but it says Lyman on it. I got it at Cabela's for cleaning rifle brass, and Lyman is a prominent reloading company. Later I saw the same machine at Harbor Freight. The problem was that Lyman got me for an extra hundred bucks! So that machine sucks and Lyman is not much better.
The number on the Vevor go flaky after awhile. Set it where ya want and leave it alone.

Harbor freight has commercial version of a new ultrasonic cleaner
I see that, they must've recently come out with that as it wasnt available when I bought this smaller one. I see the new one is a 6 liter and $170. So about the same price as the vevor but half the size.
Suspend the parts instead of letting them rest on the wire basket. The results will be much better.
I have one like the smaller one and you’re not meant to put things directly on the metal pan as it doesn’t vibrate the surfaces properly.
