  • Gaming Pastime reviews X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse for PC.
Developed by Raven Software and published by Activision, X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse was released for PC in September, 2005. X-Men Legends II is not a perfect game but it features a lot of improvements that make it more enjoyable than its predecessor.

The cutscenes always blew me away the way they had the characters look in the cutscenes was phenomenal I'd love a remake for both games with updated graphics

I got to play as Nightcrawler. That was the best selling point when I bought it. The rest was a happy suprise.

This is a really good review. I had this on Gamecube back in the day. If my hands could still handle playing video games I would be playing this right now. Damn disabilities.

I remember playing this back in the day and having no idea how action RPGs worked. Would be interesting to replay now with a better understanding.

X-Men Legends II gives more freedom for customization of characters. You said you opted for AUTO mode and i think that is why everybody says X-Men Legends II is better than MUA. In X-Men Legends II you can manually distribute points not only for abilities, but also for stats. Take Storm for example - by default the game will opt for more "magic" based approach with more energy for SP attacks, but less HP and defence. But if you look closely, in her arsenal there are a couple of interesting passive abilities. One that gives your physical strikes an elemental property, dealing not only additional elemental damage, but also bypassing physical resistance of enemies. And the second one that enhances elemental damage of all attacks. And she also has a second extreme attack which literally gives you a god mode for half a minute. So, you can make Storm a massive tank that can sacrifice all of its energy based attacks, and give you an unstopable killing machine that can kill almost all enemies easily with just basic punches. And that is just one example. You CANT do something like that in any MUA games.

This game is goated. As a kid the ultimate x-men era was the era I grew up with before I went back and learned more about the X-Men. Those ultimate costumes are so cunt and go hard idc. All of their costumes have been good.

No technical issues. There is a well known bug. In all versions where if there are too many items in the shared memory of the inventory, stash and ground… all items cease dropping. Health and energy packs included. And if you save in this state the bug can persist in the save file.
Also the overflow bug. Each character has certain stash limits that if exceeded via Tech Station bonuses… will reset the stats permanently to level one stats.

If there are too many items in the shared memory, the game will crash.
This usually happens at the end of Act 3 in the Madri Temple or in the beginning of Act 4.
The no more drops bug occurs when you fail to pick up a boss fight character specific piece of equipment.
If the maps reset without picking up that piece of equipment, the bug is triggered .

Is this game available through backward compatibility on Xbox? I couldn't find it. I'm playing using an emulator, but I always prefer to reward the developer purchasing the game.

Definitely my favorite out of the bunch, X-Men Legends 2 feels like it was a labor of love; and, like the first Ultimate Alliance, it still holds up really well.
Maybe now that Di$ney owns the license we can hope for a re-release for PS4/5? Would sure help me forget how mediocre Ultimate Alliance 3 is…
