The Ritz Carlton card now gives 85K points for the anniversary hotel night, previously 50K points. This is a huge upgrade, making the Ritz Carlton a big winner over the Bonvoy Brilliant. This alone is worth more than the $450 annual fee. I have the Boundless, looking to upgrade to the Ritz Carlton as soon as meeting the 12 month requirement.
100% WORTH IT! If you stay at the Ritz In Beaver creek, St Regis in Aspen, or The W in aspen during ski season that's and EASY $1500 a night with taxes/fees. For reference. PARKING for non hotel guests at the Ritz in Beaver Creek is $500 a day! 😱
Great comparison video! A few more perks to add to the Ritz card are that you get access to Visa's Luxury Hotel Collection with perks like free breakfast, hotel credits and upgrades and the hotels are not just Marriott branded properties, a Troon Golf Membership that allows you to play at numerous private courses around the world, automatic executive status with National Car Rental, and unmatched trip and bag delay insurance. The $450 annual fee may seem expensive to some, but not when compared to AMEX platinum's $695 fee and Chase Sapphire Reserve's $550 fee. I still believe the Ritz card is worth getting even without a signup bonus due to the insane amount of benefits that come with it.
Would you recommend to get one of the other cards first then product switch to it? Which? Also do you know if AFs are waived for military on the Ritz card
@@Re3iRtH Product changing is the only way to get the Ritz Carlton card now. You would apply for the Bonvoy Boundless or Bold and then keep the card for one year. Then you can product change to RC. The Boundless has a 5 FN signup bonus as of this writing.
The Ritz-Carlton card’s Priority Pass membership benefit, including a distinct card issued to an authorized user, is the most attractive feature of this card for me. Thank you for the excellent comparison video.
Wow ever since you got approved for the ritz carlton i wanted to know the differences between these. Thanks. I always enjoy your breakdown of credit cards.
Got the Brilliant because of 5/24 so I didn’t have much of a choice. Very happy though, already got my $300 credit and I redeemed a $50 offer. $100 to go and I’ve covered my AF. Great vid! 👍
I opened Marriott brilliant and Bold card at the same time. take SUB with Brilliant and by the time hit 1 year mark, upgrade Bold card to Ritz-Carlton. Ritz carlton would be better because priority pass for AU and I I had a lot of trouble with AMEX when i travel oversea, especially asia because its hardly accepted.
Yea, I feel that among the travel cards, the hotel cards aren’t that great unless you are a Marriott loyalist (which I am) and a frequent traveler (which I am not). I feel combo of the CFU/CSP/ Amex Platinum would be preferred in getting you the same benefits outright, and with point accumulation, get you the others. But damn, I would love to have the Ritz-Carlton added as my ego flex card vs. the Centurion lol So 3 year game plan for me is to combine my CFU with the following: finish up my new member run with the CSP (basically got the 100k bonus) and follow that with applying for the Marriott Boundless and reap the new benefits. Re-rewatch your Ritz Carlton vid and upgrade when the time comes. Then cap it with the Platinum, giving me my card quad. I am still on the fence about getting a airline card just due to no lifetime status benefit (Delta loyalist here) and the Platinum benefits + using points would serve as a roundabout to what the SkyMiles card currently offers.
I sincerely have a challenge for all the "CC enthusiasts". There are dozens and dozens of videos on traveling,, aka buying hotel and airfare for the US travel, the Amex Gold's benefits when abroad, etc. Almost all videos show traveling only in the US with all the multipliers and upgrades for daily spending nd US traveling, but hardly anything beyond the airfare and pre-paid hotel if going abroad. Especially if you are not going t some tourist trap resort. I would love to see a video with trifectas/multipliers or whatever for the guy that travels abroad mostly and wants to get the most of multipliers and points from things outside the hotel and airfare purchase/upgrade. Car rentals, gas, restaurants, grocery stores, etc all with multipliers and no foreign transaction fee but for the US based traveler. Is there such a thing? Of course there is, but you now have a challenge. SHOW ME THE MONEY............
Thanks for the suggestion. Check out the Citi Premier Card. Also, nearly all card that have "3X Gas, etc." without a "U.S. only" exclusion will work worldwide, which is a lot of cards that are discussed. It's often Amex that has the "U.S. only" restriction.
Very good comparison video. I love my Ritz-Carlton Card. I think its the best travel card out now. But if the Brilliant gets those upgrades that's been roomored then it could give the Ritz-Carlton Card a run for its money!! Nonetheless the Ritz-Carlton Card is over loaded with everything room travel perks to travel insurance protections also. It'll always be my favorite. Plus the look and name of this card is almost as prestigious as the Amex Platinum.
Great video, Mark! It was great to see the major differences (credits, etc.) and evaluate which of them work better for me. The RC’s flight credit is useful if you’re flying to a location with an RC property, especially outside the U.S. And you’re not locked to one airline like the Amex Plat. Not that this should be a factor in adding the card to your wallet, but if I had to judge the card based on its design, I’d pick the RC. It looks more prestigious (no pun intended) than the Bonvoy Brilliant. 😊
Question. What is the path for getting both of these cards? I always get confused with some people talking about the one lane rule for Marriott cards. Nonetheless, this was the video I was waiting for. Thanks for making this!

The Ritz card seems like the clear winner for a mid to late player. Its been on my list for a couple of years now but the sub for all of the other cards were more important then the benifits of the ritz and since the visa infinite travel $100 credit was discontinued. It would be pretty cool if you could stack 5 of the 8 cards to get titanium status or 8 of 8 to get ambassador status lol
Hahaha I totally hear ya on the Elite Night Credit stacking...that would be the best thing ever in travel! 😬✈️ If the Bonvoy Brilliant undergoes a refresh and comes with the 'rumored' 25 ENCs, then adding those to the 15 ENCs via business card would yield 40 ENCs per year. That would be a step in the right direction 💯

@@rubyclark9694 - No update. The Ritz Card got updated point multipliers shortly after the SPG merger years ago.
Hello 👋🏼 great video!
Do you know if I currently have the bonvoy business amex card since 2014 - am I able to sign up for chase boundless and still earn the bonus rewards ? Goal is to change for the ritz next year, thanks 🙏🏼
As I understand the rules, yes, that should work. Here's a link to my video about Marriott credit card eligibility rules: czcams.com/video/pzGmeB3S7Kg/video.html
Awesome, thank you. I know you have done few videos on the Amex Platinum, I the Charles Schwab seems great for needs. Do you think there will be hard inquiries hurting my chances on either one? I guess Do you suggest apply for both around same time or wait a bit not look desperate? 😂
@@aginelo - Are you considering apply for 2 Platinum Card? That is, the regular version & the Schwab version?
@@MarkReese hi no I’m considering applying for 1 Amex Charles Schwab and 1 Bonvoy Boundless Chase with score of Fico 759
@@aginelo - Got it. You should be able to apply whenever you like. I'm not aware of any wait period rules with a credit card & a charge card from Amex. Make sure you can meet the spend requirements with your regular expenses.
Is this the same "Best" priority pass membership that comes with the Venture X card?
No, the Ritz Carlton card's access is better. To compare...
Capital One Venture X
- You can bring 2 guests
- You can add authorized users at no charge
- Those authorized users can bring 2 guests of their own
Ritz Carlton
- You can bring unlimited guests
- You can add authorized users at no charge
- Those authorized users can bring unlimited guests of their own
@@MarkReese Thank you for breaking it down, Mark. I am trying to envision a scenario if those would be any different in the real world. Don't all those people need to be traveling at the same time / be on the same reservation. I can't think of a scenario where your AUs would need to bring of their own guests let alone "unlimited" guests. I am trying to see how this minute difference would be practical in the real world.
@@Re3iRtH - Your guests need to be traveling with you. However, the authorized users can go on their own trips at different times with their own guesting privileges.

Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant has a $650 fee not $450. It includes platinum status. The Ritz Carlton includes gold status which is almost useless.
The best Marriott card for thr the money is the Boundless. Similar multipliers, silver status, one free night annually for $95 per year. (Corrected)
Correct. This video is roughly 2 years old, so prior to the card updates.
Incorrect...The "Bountiful" has a $250 annual fee and does not offer an annual free night.
Sounds like you mean to say "Boundless."
@@MarkReese I stand corrected. I was actually referring to the Boundless card which I look at as the sweet spot for most travelers. Road warriors might benefit from Marriott's more elite cards. Obviously RC's lounge benefit can't be beat for those who can avail themselves of that benefit. RC has similar traveler's insurance benefits to the Sapphire Reserve at the price of poor earnings on travel.
@@J0HN_3_16 - Agreed. Well said!
