  • In this video I go over the new spiral cutter head thickness planer from IGM, the PS33. I unbox, set up and use it going over the features it has first hand and going over it in a bit more depth. For transparency I bought this planer using my own money.

    Hello. Can you tell me please why you didn't buy the Shinko thickness planer (giving that you have already the Shinko surface planer)? I am considering between the IGM and Shinko thickness planers and I am curios what determined you to buy the IGM. Thank you.

      Great question!!!! Il first mention the main reason the go on to mention the secondary reasons. Firstly, it was the cutter head, it looks over all bigger and stronger, the actual roller on the Shinko is aluminium I believe this one cast iron, I just feel this is the better option (I could be wrong) over all it was a very close call. the secondary reason is that IGM are 20min from me so spare parts etc is easier even though I could just order the parts online

    Hey and thanks for your review. I was thinking about this machine for quite a long time. Recently, I've decided to give it a chance and ordered it. Now, I'm waiting for delivery as they are currently out of stock. I'm glad you are happy with the machine :) For me, the selling point is the cutter head.

      You’ll be very happy, it’s a great machine. The cutter head was the main attraction for me too, so much better then straight blades 🤟

    I'm trying to decide between this IGM PS33, the Shinko/Dictum DH330 or the DW733. This is the first review out there for this machine. Great timing, thanks.

    • @woodcraft_cz
      @woodcraft_cz  Před 7 měsíci +2

      Iv upgraded from my DW733-qs, I too considered both this and the Shinko, I decided upon this as the cutter head seems to be a stronger material as opposed to aluminium which the Shinko appears to be, this also has more cutters and come as carbide as standard. I have the Shinko jointer AH200 and love it but this just edged my decision due to the factors i mention above

    Great video I’ve also thought about getting that same exact planer model. How was the noise level will of course be using ear protection anyway and dust collection running but the spiral cutter blocks does reduce noise a little. 2 question did you notice any snipe from the planer ? Best regards from Denmark 🇩🇰

    • @woodcraft_cz
      @woodcraft_cz  Před 7 měsíci +2

      So noise is a little less but the difference is negligible when you have ear protection on. I did run it without a load or ear protection to guage it’s level and it does run quieter. As far as snipe, when I saw it in the show room it did snipe the piece but that because the beds were not levelled, when I brought mine home and set it up I noticed no snipe. It’s very early days yet but I’m very happy with my initial useage 🤟

    Well, your review gave the final push. Just ordered. Deliveray in March.... I gues there are more people who like this machine. And you got a new subscriber! What surface planer do you recommend?

    • @woodcraft_cz
      @woodcraft_cz  Před 4 měsíci

      Firstly, thankyou for the subscription 🙏 secondly, you will get plenty of joy with this machine, once the beds are levelled it’s a true workhorse. As for surface planers, my experience only really lays with small footprint options. I would LOVE to be able to have space for a felder Hammer but unfortunately I do not have the space. If you too want a small footprint surface planer I can say the only real option (for me) is the Shinko AH200 (I have a video on that too. There is an “S” version that I don’t have which means the beds are steel or cast iron I believe which I may upgrade mine too but on a whole it’s a great small footprint surface planer and the only one to my knowledge with a helical blade. BUT the cutting width is a limiting factor as it’s only 200mm max width. Hope that is of use 😊

  • @Peters_Outdoor_Life

    Great video. I am currently also looking for a thickness planer with a Helix Cutter Head. My desired machine would be the Grizzly G0940, which unfortunately is not available for the European market. At the moment I am comparing the Shinko DH330 with Spiral Cutter Head and the IGM PS33 with the Helix Cutter Head. Besides the Helix Cutter Head (IGM), the Shinko's design seems a bit more massive. Especially the feeding table and the housing of the IGM seems simpler (just my impression from the seen videos). Can you say something about this, as I have not yet seen both machines in real - thanks?

    • @woodcraft_cz
      @woodcraft_cz  Před 7 měsíci +1

      I too had to make the choice between the two, I opted for the IGM for a number of reasons, firstly, the spiral isn’t made from aluminium on IGMs and secondly I have the store 20minutes from my house so I was able to see it in person, from the specifications I think the IGM edges over the Shinko but I’m pretty sure they are both great machines

    • @woodcraft_cz
      @woodcraft_cz  Před 4 měsíci +1

      It has been a workhorse, the dust collection exhaust can be a week point as it’s made from plastic and the outlet is square so putting the vac hose onto it constantly has put it under strain. I would recommend you get those magnetic adaptors for machine to
      Hose if you got this, not essential but most definitely an added benefit. In terms of long period jobs I never use it over 15/20minutes and for that it’s been absolutely fine

      @@123kkkable yes but the last time I tried installing it I stripped the thread on the head of the unit and taking the cost into account after taxes and import duties it was just easier to buy a dedicated unit. This also have other features that I prefer over the DW-733 such as fan assisted exhaust port, wider planing width and some smaller quality of life perks. 🙏
