- Here it was September and I hadn’t had a trip since April due to taking care of family matters. I asked my youngest daughter, Chloe, if she’d like to join me and explore some of the region around her home in Albuquerque. And she would! So, I picked her up on mid-day Friday and we headed off to the west to explore some of the fascinating New Mexico features. Day 2 found us in Grants, New Mexico. On this morning we’d head up to Chaco Culture National Historic Park, but with a side trip through the Cibola National Forest around Mount Taylor. This would join a route from nearby Milan that Chloe had driven before in her Chevy Spark. Then we’d continue on to Farmington, where we’d spend the night, but not without a quick stop at Angel Peak Scenic Area.
The music is "Riding into the Sun" by Telecasted. It is available for free use in CZcams videos from the CZcams Audio Library.
Awesome trip I always wanted to head south out of Chaco.
It was cool working in both directions, along with the Cibola NF near Grants. On day 3 we'll attempt something similar with Bisti Badlands.
Thanks for sharing. Noticed an Olympus shooter in the ruins.
Yep, my daughter likes her Olympus camera.
Pretty cool structures there! Noticing a few cattle guards the last few episodes. Thanks for sharing. George.
The Pueblo Bonito was of especial interest to us (besides its notoriety as the largest such structure). I should've recorded as my daughter explained how the architect of her workplace at Sandia Natl Lab used it to inspire the design of that workplace. Many design cues carried over from this building erected in the first millennia.
@@DxDOverland That is pretty cool.
Been to Chaco many times... One of those bridges you crossed over, down in the wash there are 10000s pieces of broken pottery etc. Took my wife camping there one winter... it was -13F out and had a high of 12F. 😀 Ran out of firewood, had to dumpster dive for things to burn. Quite the adventure
Whoa, that's mighty darned cold! Coldest I've camped was 9° and that was sufficient for me as my own personal record.
@@DxDOverland It gets REALLY cold in that canyon! That's why they built the rooms so small, easier to heat.
You missed 'Phone Call Hill' BBest view of the valleys and the only place to get cell service bback in the 90s and 2000s. Always gave my wife the heebie jeebies with the narrow road on the side of the mountain. Harvested many an elk there.
Duly noted. I'll have to research that before returning next time. Thanks for watching!
Mark, great video! I tend to gravitate more towards your JK travels. Would you please do an in-depth video of all the hardware wear your JK has.
Thanks, much. It's a little dated, but I did a series about my JK mods back when Ray and I ran the TAT. There are ten trip videos in that series, with a studio chat after each one. Some are about the JK and some about other gear and procedures (such as cameras, creating routes, etc). If you look at the TAT playlist description, there are descriptions of what's covered in each of the ten parts, plus what time stamp you'll find that description starts. The major mods since are the Dynatrac axles, D44 in front and D60 in rear.
If you just want a list, this is fairly comprehensive (I hope the link works) ...

@@DxDOverland Awesome, thank you so much for the link, looking forward to the rest of the videos
Back in 2011, the roads in and out of Chaco Canyon where horrible
They were mildly rough. Especially the road we took out compared to my previous trip. I had told Chloe they were smoothly graded dirt, but there were quite a few washouts in it this time.
