For months, it has been evident that Ukraine must mobilize additional personnel to compensate for losses in current units, rotate those that have not been rotated, and establish new units. The previous system was deemed unfair and ineffective, necessitating an update.

The Dutch are share that piece of history, and I can say with pride we just announced in total an additional 4 billion euro's in military aid, and 400 million for Ukraine's economy and infrastructure.
A very overlook little snippet of history in relation to WW2 and Belgium was that in 1936 Belgium was soo keen to show how neutral they were that they LEFT their military alliance with France - with the hope that this action would convenience the nice mustache man to leave it alone... Neutral is something a nation only get to be, when it understands that it also needs be armed to the teeth while being neutral at the same time - I'm certain this lesson will however be forgotten over and over again.
totally agree, we also found out the hard way that declaring yourself to be neutral means fckall if you do not have the geography nor the arms industry to back it up!

Mark Rutte, the Dutch PM, announced an additional 1 billion euro's in aid, for this year, 400 million in addition this year for Ukraine's economy and infrastructure, and an additional 3 billion euro for next year ( 2025 ).
Go Mark! We need more countries to step up their aid, and do it quickly.
Watching this whole Ukraine thing from Feb 2022 I definitely feel I'm in a time warp. Everything from the 1930's is being replayed in real time. Its utterly surreal how Vladolf how is making the same decisions, same errors, same attitude, same everything as his idol Adolf. The New Axis Powers are already aligned, organized and attacking.
The Western leaders wring their hands over acting tough and afraid to make Vladolf angry. So they let Vladolf and his Axis friends continue to rapidly increase their armaments, militaries and their aggression.
Declaring your country "neutral" meant something before WW2. But it means NOTHING to the animalistic brutes. Americans are like "don't get us involved". That didn't work in WW1 or WW2 and certainly will not carry water today. The only thing "neutrality" does is to insure your country and military are totally unprepared and suffer defeat.

In the bathroom debacle, some states were wanting to allow people who have swapped genders to use the bathroom assigned to their new identity.
In the beer case, Bud Lite made a special advertising can that it gave to a transgender influencer who showed in on her channel. They lost their minds on that one and threw out anything associated with Bud Lite. I think it's blown over now, but the manufacturer lost quite a bit of money.

People don't seem to understand how ungodly massive this was: They agreed 515 to 62 to NOT PASS ANY BUDGETS until Ukraine has 7 Patriot systems. Nobody is getting a dime for anything until the matter has been resolved. You better believe that leaders of institutions, who are getting EU funding, are going to scream at their respective defence ministers until Ukraine has 7 Patriot systems.
In politics, this is what "action" looks like. This is basically a "political nuke" from the European Council: "Everything stops until we get what we demand!". And having a 515 vs 62 backing means that no amount of horsing around, shaking hands, lubing the right places, threatening to throw a temper tantrum, or anything else can move the needle significantly.
I'm fairly certain Ukraine will have 7 Patriot systems in the mail next week.
You will see action when Russia marches into Kiev and Zelensky flees to his $50,000 a month villa in Italy.

Ukraine is defending all of Europe, Europe has 100 patriots, Ukraine is only asking for seven of them. There are 100 of those in Europe. We can afford those 7. It's not about who will be willing, but who will be obligated. And that should be those who have more than they need. I am sure many countries can miss them right now.
Tyrkia doesn't have Patriot.
Poland has just started receiving theirs. There might be 100 total vehicles in Europe, but "only" around 20 full systems, of which Germany has 11. I think Romania comes second, then Sweden. The problem is that they're owned by individual countries, not the EU, so how are the EU going to give them to Ukraine? Even if the EU tries to buy them from the countries, I'm not sure they would be willing to sell. I'm not even sure I would have been, even though I know Ukraine needs them, and if they stayed in my country they might never be needed.
It might be easier to try to use the funds to buy from USA.

Since baltic sea region is crusial root to send suport on the frontlines since if something happens Finland and Poland are first in lime to get every help that can be send to them to hold back the invasion. Since they are first inline that have eany form of arsenal to stand up against agresions in baltic sea region when shit hits the fan. And considering the geography on region and specially location of Kaliningrad Sweden is the spot that is needed to forme bridgehead on that region to make sure that NATO countries next to russia get the help they need. And there for you need to look up bigger picture.

Thanks Artur. Although I am British, I also applaud the speech by Guy Verhofstadt. He is right to be angry. All European democracies need to work together to supply Ukraine now, immediately, today. The best way to protect EU States is to support Ukraine. To combine two quotes from Churchill: "[The government] go on in strange paradox, decided only to be undecided, resolved to be irresolute, adamant for drift, solid for fluidity, all-powerful to be impotent...The era of procrastination, of half-measures, of soothing and baffling expedients, of delays, is coming to its close. The "Although I am British" is a akward thing (not ment to you personally as something negative) caused by politicians. Yeah there was a adhoc referendum without nuances and during a period of generally public dissatisfaction. To me you're my next door European good neighbour. In theory ome could walk from London to Amsterdam by foot or by bike when no trains are in the Channel tunnel. From Dover's beach I saw the coast of France and also the other way around. Been through the Chunnel a few times with my car on the train. Works flawlessly.

@@blueredbrick Thanks for your generous and amicable comment. I agree that this war is a threat to security globally. Unfortunately, some countries do not realise the danger but that is why Japan and South Korea (for example) are providing support to Ukraine. I have been pleased to see the cooperation between the UK and EU about supporting Ukraine - it's a team effort in mutual interest of self-defence. Many member states of the EU are taking leading roles in helping Ukraine as well as in the joint efforts of the EU as a whole.
Interesting that the Belgian ex-PM gave his speech in english, is that common in the EU union parliament or whatever it may be called? In either case it IS important for the English speaking countries (eg. USA, Canada, UK) to hear this.
Since the 1990s GenXers (and younger) have been learning English widely across the world…
If you want to be heard and understood… select a common language!
They also use computers, and can type their own speeches….
Using a translator will never accomplish the same effect that this speech did, in the moment.

As an American I agree with you. Europe needs to stop depending on the US for its protection. Unfortunately America has changed. It’s heard for years people complain worldwide that the US interferes too much and nobody gave it the right to be the world’s policeman. Europe should pay for its own protection and stop expecting the US to pay for it. America has global obligations. It can’t possibly help everyone everywhere at all times.

its was a Malaysian Airliner - MH17 , thats was down in Ukraine, but most of its passenger is Dutch.
Yes, it was a Malaysia Airlines airliner, but there was a codeshare agreement, so MH17 was also known as flight KL4103.

It also meant some people didn't realized their family members/friends were dead when they watch the news about MH17 and I was one of them.

Mobilization doesn’t mean sending more to the front, it could mean mobilizing personnel in terms of rear defense, building drones, Ukrainian equipment, medical support at casualty points, hospitals, building trenches behind the frontlines, a whole plethora of reasons for defending the entire country.

Great find on that EU commissioner's speech. The West needs to make up their minds. Initially, they thought they wouldn't let an aggressor nation take a peaceful nations land. “A team of researchers at the University of Adelaide have found that as many as 80 percent of tweets about the 2022 Russia-Ukraine invasion in its early weeks were part of a covert propaganda campaign originating from automated fake ‘bot’ accounts.
An anti-Russia propaganda campaign originating from a ‘bot army’ of fake automated Twitter accounts flooded the internet at the start of the war. The research shows of the more than 5-million tweets studied, 90.2 percent of all tweets (both bot and non-bot) came from accounts that were pro-Ukraine, with fewer than 7 percent of the accounts being classed as pro-Russian.

The little-reported Stanford University/Graphika research on Western disinformation, analysed by Declassified Australia in September, examined just under 300,000 tweets from 146 Twitter accounts. The Meta/Facebook research on Russian disinformation reported widely by mainstream media, including the ABC a fortnight later, looked at 1,600 Facebook accounts.
Reports on the new research have appeared in a few independent media sites, and in Russia’s RT, but not much else, so revealing the burial of stories that don’t fit the desired pro-Western narrative.

The new EU parliament pressure for the Patriots was probably not coordinated, it's just a welcome bonus within the same time frame.

Artur, the truth is that we never stopped mobilization since 2022, we never did...
This is different. The continuous "replenishment" mobilization is a necessity to retain combat strength. Stuffing an additional 500k on top of the existing pool, to outright expand the combat strength, is good news. But I suspect one of the main reasons has been economics. The EU is pretty much funding the Ukrainian national budget, so promisses of increases for 500k soldiers more on the payroll needed to be in place.
