    New sub! I have a 39’ 9n. It is running like a turd and I just put a new carb on and can’t get it to keep running

    • @xpsgarage
      @xpsgarage  Před rokem +1

      Did you check the ignition system? That was the first thing I had to fix on mine.

      @@xpsgarage spent all morning taking apart and reassembling the carb. Needed a new battery as well, oops! Got her running but the idol and rev are not acting right. My Governor linkage is sloppy to say the least. I think a Governor rebuild is in my future

    I have never seen a 8N with the breather on the left side. I bought a new proof meter and cable and the inner cable was too short and had to by a universal, we’ll see if that works.

    • @knuckle47
      @knuckle47 Před 6 měsíci

      My ‘47 8N is also a left side breather

    I have an 8n. I had to replace the carburetor and now it tries to die when go up hill, I did replace the fuel filter and readjusted the carb many times from factory to extreme with no luck. Any ideas? Thanks!

    • @xpsgarage
      @xpsgarage  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Is the arm from the governor to the carb opening the throttle when you start to go up hill?

    Great video
    Working on my 8N -- Tractor surging Installed new after market carb -- half the weight of the marvel ( will rebuild ). Removed governor, cleaned ( wished I watched video before --could have taken it apart -arms are loose and play in spring . Where do you get brass shim ? Re-installed governor -- still surging. Ordering new governor -- will rebuild old one when I have time this summer. Really helped me understand all components. Thanks

    • @xpsgarage
      @xpsgarage  Před 9 měsíci

      The brass shims I used were old feeler gauges I have for motorcycle valve checking. I usually get them from McMaster-Carr.

    Do you have a fitting size and thread for the oil line.

    • @xpsgarage
      @xpsgarage  Před 5 měsíci +1

      The one going into the governor? It's a 1/4 Tube-1/8 NPT Inverted Flare Elbow

    I bought A2N 1946. And it ran good when I bought it. I left the guy use it for 2 weeks. Went back to pick it up and it backed fires. And it will not stay running. Do you have any ideas? What might be wrong?

    • @xpsgarage
      @xpsgarage  Před 6 měsíci

      I'd make sure you have good fuel flow to the carb and would probably also drain the carb to make sure there is no water in it. After that check the spark plugs and ignition to make sure you have good fire.

    • @duanebolen543
      @duanebolen543 Před 6 měsíci

      @@duanebolen543 Have you checked all the wiring to and from the coil? Do you still have a resistor block in the power line to the coil? They have been known to go bad.

    Ok, is there a governor adjustment????

    • @xpsgarage
      @xpsgarage  Před 8 měsíci

      I don't think there is much adjustment to it. Make sure there isn't any slack in the spring and that the arm is not all sloppy. The adjustment is in the throttle linkage. Once you have the throttle set then the governor just moves the throttle to maintain RPM.

  • @susanvaughn741

    I bought a complete new governor for $112.00. On eBay.

      If its brand new, likely its an overseas (India or China) model and you may be in for some heart ache with its performance. Another video I found said that they salvaged a brand new overseas model by tearing it open and properly shimming the shaft which they found wasn't shimmed for preload at all. Good luck.

    • @xpsgarage
      @xpsgarage  Před 9 měsíci

      Have you tried it yet? Some of the aftermarket ones don't work very well.

  • @jameschainey2343

    If you are using 1/2 inch it's a 5/16 bolt 🔩 just so the people understand. 😊

    • @xpsgarage
      @xpsgarage  Před 6 měsíci

      What did I do? Say it was a 1/2" bolt instead of saying it uses a 1/2" wrench?
