The day Cameroon put the country on the world map as a powerhouse of football. Remember watching that game live. Infact remember following every match of Cameroon in that world cup and enjoying the exploits of Roger milla in that world cup. Such a wonderful team.
I think they had already done it long before. It was 1982. Whereas by 1990, all they needed was a legitimation. Yes, Cameroon DID get what they deserved.
@@prinzdodo yes but African continent as a whole is still sub par surprisingly in world football. Potentially atleast there are 4 to 5 african countries who can win the world cup but on the world stage they consistently under perform. Egypt, Ghana, Nigeria, Ivory coast, Senegal surely are world class teams and my fervent hope is that they go all the way to the top in the world cups. Even if they manage a semi final berth it would give a huge boost to the football aspirations of the african continent. Teams like France has benefitted so much by taking in the talent from west african countries. Just like what shakira says in that waka waka song It is time for africa to do it on it's own.

@@kfreckle5453 absolutely. Remember the role of thuram and desailey in France world cup. Without thuram at the back it would not have been possible. Look at the boateng bros playing for Germany. All are world class and supremely talented. Can we forget Mario balotelli !! All these players had they represented their respective African countries would have lifted the world cup for sure atleast once. The French team had 8 or 9 west African players in their world cup win !!! Living in West africa since 23 years it's my fervent dream to see atleast one of the teams reach the semi final stage . Being a lover of the game I always am amazed at the street level talent that exists in this part of the world. I always stop and watch the high quality street action for sometime which always makes me feel happy and good. God needs to give a better deal to these kids. They will get a major boost if one of their teams make it to the semis. Let it be at Qatar !!!

OMG. It is like yesterday. I was 7 years old when I watched this match.
I remember that match I was 12 years old and it hurts me alot. Being Egyptian and African. I was a fan of Cameroon and wished their team made a record for Africa. They were too close to the semi final and who knows they might had qualified as well for the final. My own opinion they should have kept their concentration with England and score from all chances they had.
They were not ready for an african team to win world cup! Cameroon team had everything needed to win the world cup,Europe just couldn't stand it!

The world cup we should have won. The only thing we needed was someone telling out players they were the best team in the world at that time. You cannot win the world cup if you do not believe you are the best. At that time, we needed a younger finisher and George Weah was in Cameroon and willing to become Cameroonian. Him and Milla would have won the cup. Omam was just missing way too many chances. Chances Weah would never have missed. I come back to watch this ofter to remind even myself to believe in me. As long as african teams on show up to "participate" in these tournaments they will never win. We need to start getting out there to win them. Because we've got what it takes.
I think (West) Germany were the best team when it comes down to it. They really had an excellent team, England played by far their best game in the tournament in the Semi Finals and it still wasn't quite enough. After that it was absolutely open: Italy, Cameroon, Yugoslavia, Netherlands, Spain, Belgium, Romania, England all were outstanding. Only odd part was one of the worst Brazil teams in WC history. Argentina were an odd one, always feels strange they got to the final having won so few games: Maradona wasn't in his pomp but was still great, but other than that they just rode a young Caniggia and their (second choice) Keeper.
I think you are right about belief being the difference in this game though. Cameroon were the better team on the night, but there was still the feeling they were the fun carnival in town rather than the credible victors they deserved to be seen as. To be fair they did play into this a little with their terrible group performance against USSR.
England were outplayed in this match by Cameroon, and went blow for blow with the eventual champions Germany, arguably slightly being the better team in that game. There is no reason Cameroon couldn't have won this tournament.

Cameron played very well in that tournament started with perhaps the biggest upset in world cup history when they beat the previous champions Argentina 1-0 in the opening match.
