Best game of the 1990 WC. By far.
I watched this game in Jamaica as a 12 year old kid. Obviously my football knowledge was limited but I just remember that for long periods Cameroon played England off the field and in hindsight should have won. What is disappointing for me is that African football has not progressed since the Indomitable Lions and the Super Eagles burst onto the scene in the 90s it appears to have gone backwards with some African players even choosing to play for second rate European football nations that won't win a major tournament.
Nah, I would even say, Germany vs. Netherlands was more exciting

A thriller. One of the best WC matches ever, up in the pantheon alongside Argentina v France final 2022, Brazil 2- Italy 3 and France 3 - West Germany 3, both in 1982 and Brazil 4 - Italy 1 in 1970.
I reckon Brazil 1 - Germany 7 was too weird and strange to be considered a thrilling match !

@@joseluistabarez4340 Regarding Uruguay 2 Holland 3, I respectfully and completely disagree: A good match and entertaining but never a "great" match. Holland controlled the match, Uruguay never looked like winning and only scored their second goal to make the 3-2 score seem respectable in the 90th minute. That Holland would win was never really in doubt.
The matches I mentioned, apart from Brazil - Italy 1970, were "humdingers" in which spectators never knew which way the result would go until the referee blew the final whistle. Therefore these games were unpredictable, entertaining , full of goals with each team looking like they could win - hence we can call them "special and great matches."
@@mediastarguest Honestly that 1970 final match was pretty even for the most part and dare I say Italia looked more dangerous in the beginning than Brazil did. It wasn't until the middle of the 2nd half that Brazil just exploded!

The first penalty is a penalty The ball was on the ground and cameroon play kicked at leg surprised he didn't get a card for thar however the second one is just bad timing bt the goalkeeper and england just before had thrown the ball away it should have been a goal kick

At the start you can hear the England fans borrowing part of the Irish song for Italia 90, which went something like "We're all following Jackie's army, we're all off to Italy, and we'll really shake'em up when we win the world cup, 'cos Ireland are the greatest football team!" (I have to assume that our fans changed the words a bit to fit for England, but with football fan 'singing' it's hard to tell!). I vaguely remember kids at our Infants and Junior school in England singing it too :)

After the first two games Cameroon played in 1990,the illusion of being naive that they projected wore thin.......They came with as much ambition,capability and guile to win the WC as any other team......after They lost to USSR( which was a game they had the luxury of being able to lose),their determination to win is seen in this game,and it could have gone either way......in fact,England should have had a third penalty......
