I was 19 when this game was played, totally heartbreaking at the time. For the rest of that summer this game replayed in my mind, over & over. Football was never the same after this tournament, the PL started two years later and big money moved in. Italia 90 marked the end of old football as well as an era. Don’t get me wrong, the game tactically and skill wise is light years ahead now, I’m talking more about the very soul of football, that had died by the late 90s.

This can't really be a FIFA production can it? Thumbs up for the length of the highlights. It's nice to see most of the chances from the game. Especially Waddle's shot, the penalty that England should have been awarded for Waddle getting scythed in the box and also Platt's debatable goal that was ruled offside.
What irritated me a bit was the anachronistic use of Rhythm Is A Dancer by Snap. A song which didn't come out till a couple of years later. Surely it woulda been better to use The Power by Snap, which came out in 1990
What really spoiled this video though is the arcadelike graphics and noise whenever there is a goal. I could forgive this IF it was fan-made AND IF it was only used for the goals in the 90 mins but to use it after each penalty is scored is pathetic. It obscures to player reaction and It just makes the video seem amateurish.
On second thoughts, perhaps it is Fifa-made.

It was heartbreaking that England lost on Penalties in the semi final of Italia 90, but you have to be honest, England were extremely lucky to have made to the semis of Italia 90, they were very fortunate against Belgium in the round of 16 (Belgium hit the woodwork three times in that much) and they were also very fortunate to get past Cameroon in the quarter final, they were massively outplayed in that much before the extra time period. As an Englishman I was delighted that we did manage to make the semi finals in that tournament, but Germany were the best team in that tournament and deserved to win the final against that trash Argentina team who shouldn't have been anywhere near the final lol.

Increased violence leads to negative play, injuries, constant game stoppages, less scoring etc. it’s not what the game was designed to be like. The first world cups were very free flowing up until 1966, that’s when the era of physicality really started and went on until the 90s, leading to the poor quality of play at World Cup 1990. Ever since the refs have started cracking down on violent tackles and negative play, the quality of world cups has improved dramatically.

Seems irresponsible to have him on the line-up and what a hard time was his teammates to know that in any moment a blunder is going to become a highlight. Were there any other choices?
