    you can see the sincerity in the guy's eyes while playing. he wasn't dirty and he knew he was gonna get the card. that's real sportsmanship. that's real love of the game. that's real love for a person. you see he exchanged shirts with a netherland's player. he shouldn't be forgotten. he represents what is good in the game.

    Gazza will always be a legend. No matter if he spends the rest of his life as a 'recovering' alcoholic, his spontaneity/creativity/impulsiveness made football fresh again. When I'm a grumpy old git in my armchair i'm sure i'll sure i'll still think about Gazza once in a while and be more glad to be alive.

    big fan. it's very sad the things that happened to gazza's career, how the media pressure just enjoyed making a mess of him, and seeing him react and made it worse. they didn't know how to protect players in the 90s from media scrutiny, things sre a lot better now, but all the media did was to bully players just to get some sensational story. Gazza didn't deserve what happened to him, he should have had a good long career...imagine a player who could clown around, and the skills to do it. Amazing player,...sad that the world didn't get to see much of that wonderful talent, and only all of the bad stuff....

    • @tonylawlor8833
      @tonylawlor8833 Před 5 lety

      What do you mean he did not deserve what happened to him, it was his own actions that threw it all away, it's not like someone did something to him, he had it all and he has had more opportunities than most to break free. He had money, support, a home, a family, friends and the choice to go to the best rehabs whenever he wanted and follow up support from professionals. I do have sympathy for Gazza, to a degree. Addicts that are homeless and live in the gutter do not get the kind of understanding Gazza gets. In fact Gazza, George Best, top Actors and the like should be held to a higher standard because they are role models and have a lot more going for them than the addict on the street who has nothing and gets slaughtered not pitied by society because of it. Where I live health professionals are trying to open up a safe place for addicts, many homeless, to use their drugs. This approach has been successful in many cities around the world but the opposition to opening up such a centre here is astounding, so much so it will probably not happen and addicts will continue to be found dead on the streets for want of early intervention. What I will admit is all this does show how strong addictions are especially for some people. Throwing people into prison because they need a certain amount of a drug every day to be able to even function is just plain wrong. I know I have gone off the point here but to say Gazza did not deserve it is giving him a free pass, if Gazza did not deserve it then no addict living in a cardboard box on the streets deserved it either. My own opinion is addicts have deeper issues and this complicates everything because unless the underlying issues are not dealt with the addict will relapse continually. In many cases health professionals(even if the addict got that far) do not even get to hear the underlying issue because the addict cannot bring themselves to talk about it.

    I have always maintained the belief that Paul Gascoigne was never the same after the semi-final against West Germany. Some say it was his horror injury in the 1991 FA Cup Final while playing for Spurs, which might have been a contributing factor, but that night in Turin was the catalyst.

    I'm Canadian, and I can see how Gazza and his fellow players for England, meant to England.
    The earliest Team Canada I remember played an 8 game series against the Soviet Union. The first four games were in Canada, and regardless of the club teams that Team Canada played for, these guys were united when they put the Maple Leaf on.
    Canada has been blessed to win hockey's equivalent of the World Cup of Soccer, and I can relate to England's hope that "we'll get 'em next time".
    So, all the best to Gareth Southgate, and Team England. For, he shows he knows more than a thing or two about football, and he knows more than a thing or two about people.

    England got outplayed in that game if you watch it. Maybe if they introduced a system of penalties to decide drawn games would help in future.

    Only Technical English player on the level with the rest ...his ball control was kind of Latin American...rare for an English bloke to have such skills(usually English plays like cave men)

    The English wrecked their towns and cities after going out of this tournament. I was coming home from a late shift at 10pm and they were trashing north London.

    Independientemente a la sanción a Guerrero, que lo veo injusta ¿Creen que entre los que imparten "justicia" en el TAS, FIFA, WADA, AMA, ETC no hay drogos asolapados? Alguien debe tenerlos en algún video, coqueandose sin asco, ojalá salga alguno.

    Gazza aurait mérité un destin sportif plus en adéquation avec son talent. Les Anglais le vénérent aujourd'hui alors qu'ils le rejetaient jadis.
