Goycochea was the revelation for we all in this World Cup 90's, Maradona and Caniggia were the Stars but "El Goyco" the true genious of Italy 90's, Argentina would not be in the final without him. The last and not keeped penalty against Germany would consecrate him as the Player of the World cup Italy 90, but we need it and unfairly we wanted more from him, we wanted he saved the Cup for us and would make the team World champion...Goyco forever in our hearts together with "El Diego"

Goycochea was THIRD GOALKEEPER in the Argentine Squad. Totally amazing and incredible that a golden goalkeeper was in the hidden, and if it wasn't for the injury of the first goalkeepers he would have never been seen.

Always noticed he hesitated for a split second when Brehme struck that penalty kick. Now it makes sense when he said he was ready for it to go to his right, but thought Brehme might hit it high into the net. For Goycochea to adjust that quickly to a low shot into the corner is still incredible.
And he probably would've touched it at least, if Brehme's shot hadn't been near perfect placement.
@@moreblack 100%. I was a huge Goycochea fan as a teenager at the time, and desperately wanted him to save it. But what a penalty under the most extreme pressure on your shoulders. What a professional. Hard to believe Brehme is no longer with us. RIP Andy Brehme, his penalty will never be forgotten.

He was my hero as a kid (and i'm English!). I always used to play in goal and i was 9 when i watched this world cup. It left a lasting impression on me. So 20 or more years later i bought a replica shirt. £100 it cost from Argentina, and it was'nt a very good replica. It was also too small lol

@@cuggyboysmith81 Don't worry about the shirt, have also seen Goycochea himself these days wearing a washed out and tight fitting 1990 shirt... and that's the man himself! Maybe it's his original shirt that's been washed too many times? lol I also thought he was the greatest goalkeeper I had ever seen as a 13 year old, and he got me interested in goalies. Both him and Shilton. I otherwise wasn't really interested in goalkeepers.

That's right, Islas didn't go to Italy because he didn't wanna be the 2nd choice GK, rightly so...he had shown a far superior level than Pumpido and achieved huge success.
