That was a dark time in our Colombian history and I accept the fact that as a nation there’s still some room for improvement but stuff like what happened to Andres Escobar it’s becoming rare. We all love our players , we cheer for them no matter what.

That's actually one of the saddest parts of the story. Andres was scheduled to meet with the owners of AC Milan after the World Cup because they were interested in signing him. Back in the late 80s, early 90s, AC Milan was the top club in the world. Andres was actually concerned that AC Milan had lost interest in him because of his own goal, but they were still keen on signing him. Maturana, Colombia's coach concerned about the death threats recommended Andres to stay in the U.S. and vacation with his family before heading out to Milan. Instead he chose to go to Colombia, and there he met his demise.

I'm a Finn, but I've seen enough of Latin temper, and football crazy people from Latin America. Like the Brasilian guy who jumped through the window to his death after they lost the final to Uruguay.
On the other hand, if Escobar believed in God, his words are prophetically true:
    - Life doesn't end here.
I hope he's in Heaven now. Then he won't hold grudge to his killer. There peple are free from such thoughts. Hope the killer has found God, or will. MAy Jesus help him.

They looked a real candidate to go and win the World Cup after a scintillating qualifying campaign and good results in warm up matches. I think the Romania loss took too much out of the players. The truth is almost the whole country were overconfident; People on the streets said that Colombia was the best football team on the planet. They also took for granted that the Tricolor was going to be world champions in 1994. The only doubt that Colombian fans had was what was going to be the opponent that Colombia would easily beat in the final. The same unjustified triumphalism is currently maintained.

Colombia is a country I will always be very proud of.
Soccer in here has a very different social context than in other countries, entire families depend on positive match results at the World Cup to improve their life, or even to be able to get a small income to get by finantially and survive. In other countries they just win to prove their ego is enormous and that they are supposedly "the best in the world"; of course I'm not implying that the Colombia players don't try to prove their top quality in the game - the point is that the context of the World Cup is very different from country to country.
Although violence has been a part of its social and political history, the recent Peace Agreement has improved things, and along with a lot of hard work and support from other countries, the Colombian society will keep improving, so please stop any ranting and support Colombia, heck, even pay a visit and you will be well received in here! ;)
    Much Love to All!

Mistakes are bound to happen. Its more important that you stood for your Nation. Shame on those who took his life. Its a game and one should enjoy it. Nobody has the right to take one's life.

I remember the day he was pronounced dead, very sad day for football. Wonder why a man would be killed for an unintentional mistake. Surely
something like this would never ever happen again in the football world

Italian striker Roberto Baggio of the 1994 world cup final, when his sudden death penalty shot missed the net completely, he lived to play football for another few yrs and coach as well. Had he been Colombian, his life would have ended within 1 yr. Seriously though when grand superstars like current Soccer star Megan Rapinoe has a Penalty Kick to take , and she knows the opposing goalie has watched all her videos and knows where she is most likely to kick it,,,,as the kicker you got to kick left corner low when the goalie expect left corner high or vice versa. Had Baggio thought along those lines, then Italy would have won the 1994 World Cup...But Brazil of 1994 was still dam awesome.
