- Today in Hanoi, we're trying Chả Cá Thăng Long (Vietnamese Turmeric Fish) for the first time! This dish is prepared with a generous amount of dill and is accompanied with a side of dry roasted peanuts. Other ingredients include vermicelli noodles, mint, scallion (green onion), red chili, and fish sauce. How does Cha Ca taste? Watch the video to find out :)

The key and very open-secret ingredient to Chả Cá is our good friend, MSG. I stayed in a hotel opposite this joint about a year and half ago, and two hours before opening time sacks and sacks of Ajinomoto are delivered to the kitchen from the front door everyday. #loveMSG
Actually the key ingredient is the extract from a bug they use. Some kind of water bug called "cà cuống". Tastes and smells like some kind of candy. So I'm sure it's used as flavour in western candies.

did u kno that in vietnam, restaurants give you a small dish of nuts and if you eat them, they charge you extra and if you don’t, they don’t charge you. and that “special sauce” is made of sugar, lemon juice, and fish sauce

I have been watching your vlogs now for over 2 years, but, I feel I must comment on something. I love all of your vlogs, esp. your travel ones, but, why hold the camera so close to your mouth and I am beginning to feel that alot of film that is shown ...are closeups of the food going into your mouth. Please do not take this as a "hate" comment because it is not. Have you tried holding the camera a bit further away? Maybe im being a bit OCD, but now its beginning to bother me {after 2 years} Ok..i had to vent a bit, about what was really beginning to bother me about watching these. +watermelonmunch Thank you! I typically use clay masks from Korean brands. These days I use Innisfree (Jeju Volcanic Pore clay Mask). For clear skin, I highly recommend drinking plenty of water and eating less sugar :)

I hear it all the time on Korean travel/food shows and from my Korean American friends. My Korean American friends like cilantro and pho, but they say in Korea they don't even serve cilantro with Pho cause too many people hate it there. It's also hard to find it at the Korean supermarkets or in Korean dishes. Some reasons I've heard were that it smells/tastes like soap, cosmetics, insects, etc. I could be wrong though.
@@bestly802 across the world (not just Korea) there is a significant amount of people that have a particular gene that makes cilantro taste like soap to them (luckily I don't). As it is a gene, and Korea is quite ethnically homogeneous, perhaps a larger proportion of people in Korea share that gene.
