- Today we're exploring the street food scene of Saigon, also known as Ho Chi Minh. We join forces with a local Ngan, whom we try various Vietnamese dishes with at Turtle Lake. In this episode we eat:

We have the exact same thing here in Philippines but we call it balot instead of balut and it is often sold on the dark streets (idk why lol) or some people will go around on bikes with a basket full of balots with their signature very hot sauce made of vinegar and a lot of chillis. So you sit on the side of the street, crack the egg, drink the soupy something in the egg, and pour and hot sauce!
balot is tagalog.... balut is more bisaya style of wording... both are the same..

As a Canadian born half Vietnamese....that Balut part disturbs me. Every time my family has it. I feel grossed out because I can't imagine eating baby ducks still in the egg.
I am from the Philippines. And the filipino's also eat Balut. But i dont
lol geeze u would think a white american ;like me would think its gross... but i can eat the whole thing... honestly the juice/soup that i cant handle... the juice just seems so concentrated and overwhelming strong in flavor for my taste

And make sure not to buy electronics there, if you do make sure it is like the Apple Store with lights and air conditioning.

bring a fan, lots of clothes in case there are no places to wash too. Also u may want some shots to prevent sicknesses. And book some tours around Vietnam it’ll be fun. If u come during OCT/NOV they might be some floods.

You're amazing for trying out Balut. I am Filipino and some of the people I know couldn't even eat it. I eat Balut, but I don't like the white part alone. I eat the whole thing at once. 😀
Mina, you can get the Viet pizza at the Asian Garden Mall (Phuoc Loc Tho) in Orange County usually when they have their outdoor night markets. In SJ, they may have it at Lion Plaza or Grand Century as well.

Balut is originally made in the Philippines and gets imported to different neighboring countries esp. in Asia. So it's nice seeing our delicacy in Vietnam :D
I stayed right on this park when I was in Saigon month and I never saw all these street vendors. I guess I always arrived at particularly cop-heavy times!

Been to vietnam and my most favorite stree food I've tried was banh trang nuong. Just like mina, I ate 2 because they're so good. Now i want to go back to vietnam!

I remember when I tried balut for the first time it was at work. We were on our lunch break and the Filipinos I work with (the guys) were like hey try this. Trying to fool my ass but I already knew how to open it and I munch down. 🤣🤣 Oh god the one lady yelled at me "nooo don't eat that! Its balut!!!" I'm in the corner dancing and just eating away and the guys kept giving me the eggs. 🤣🤣

For all of you who don’t know, balut is from Philippines. Try it, it’s really delicious especially the yellow part and the soup of the 🥚 It’s kinda gross at first but when you taste it, it’s really good. 😊👌🏻
