Considering that Macron tried to reach a peace with Putin, he actually has more authority to send troops. No one can ask, "Did you call Putin? Did you ask him for peace?" Well, Macron can say, "Yes I did. Putin does not want a fair peace."
Yes, Macron certainly tried as hard as he could to give Peace a chance, perhaps for a little too long. However, he deserves full credit for actually changing his position when it became clear that the Peace option wasn't going to work. He now appears to be giving some of the strongest support for Ukraine, though as Artur points out, we do need to make sure that the actions follow the words.

Notably the US did make a security guarantee with Ukraine after facilitating the negotiations to give Russia Ukraines nuclear warheads. Nonwithstanding that blanket statements like "It is not normal to constantly intervene" is just describing a delusional and simplistic worldview nondeserving of serious acknowledgement. Oh, I agree. But remember that Kyiv is nearly 700 years older than Moscow and Moscow was invading (or trying to) Ukraine back when Moscow was under the Mongols. Ukraine has had centuries of practice in weaponizing whatever they happen to have lying around. I'd say it's pretty well baked into the culture by this point.
As a UK citizen, I can say with certainty, there is no fear over Russia on my end. Ukraine is handling them very well. Imagine if the rest of us joined in. It would not be easy, but the combined european strength would beat Russia.

You know what I think. I have seen this before and it is usually the person who has the most resolve to see a victory, who is the one who is more open to going to the perpetrator and asking them to negotiate, or cease hostilities. That is why Macron was not the least bit concerned about his many phone calls and trips to Russia to talk to Putler. I believe in the back of his mind he knew that if this did not go well, he would be ready to fight. That would be my way of handling it. Without giving Putler an ultimatum right from the start, but choosing to talk, he already had his mind made up. "Get out of Ukraine or you will be fighting us as well."

I live in France and I have listened to the conversations between Macron & Putin early on and I can tell you Macron was not trying to appease Putin at all. Macron gave Putin a hard time and challenged Putin on loads of elements until he realized Putin does not care at all and here we are today

Your example of trying to keep talking to a person punching you in the face, thinking the talking will help, is exactly how the west thinks. It's reflected domestically in our laws that punish those who defend themselves. And it's reflected internationally in our appeasement and hesitation to act in the face of terrorism, oppression, genocide, and totalitarianism (whether that comes in the form of ignoring China's actions against the Uyghur Muslims... or their provocation in the South China Sea, providing extremely limited support to Ukraine, failure to support democratically elected governments like Niger's, a failure to respond to Iranian support for terror, or even just having massive sporting events and tourism in countries like Saudi Arabia and the UAE).
The inaction of western countries is emboldening those who seek to terrorize, oppress, and murder their neighbors.

Central and Western UKR all voted in the 90+% range. Pardon my spelling.
Obviously, every Oblast voted to be part of a united Ukraine, Crimea being the weakest vote. This matches my experience meeting a young Ukrainian from Crimea, who made it quite clear that he hated Kiev and Moscow, only he hated Moscow much more. BTW, he left Ukraine in 2014, long before Zelenski arrived. He is now in SW Florida, I happened to sell him a telescope, how we met.

People think it’s weird that the French would send troops but this kind of thing happened all the time during the Cold War. Chinese and Russian soldiers fought against Americans in Korea and Vietnam and other countries. Russians soldiers were deployed against Israelis in Egypt. This was all pretty common.
Israel deployed its air force against the US Navy in the 6 Day war. Strafed the survivors clinging to the USS Liberty.
