  • "The purpose was to try to give a veneer of legitimacy to Vladimir Putin at home because of his problems abroad...we are now into the third war of his failed effort to conquer Ukraine. We're now looking at Russia possibly having to mobilise hundreds of thousands of more personnel if they actually want to try to conquer Ukraine."
After his election 'show' Putin faces a series of mounting concerns surrounding the war in Ukraine including the Russian economy and a new round of conscription, Prof. Scott Lucas tells Frontline on #TimesRadio

I agree with Scott 100 percent. i think Scott is one of the best at analyzing Putin and this dastardly war. Putin will not stop until he is made to stop. Putin would throw his mother into the war if he had to. It amazes me the ones that don’t won’t to keep supporting Ukraine. My father is one and he gets so defensive. He says Trump will help Ukrainian, he just can’t say it now. Well we can’t afford that gamble. I think Trump is a dangerous man.

Scott Lucas, well done for rounded, well grounded opinions.
For me, part of Macrons hawking is to put Putin in an element of doubt. With NATO members originally saying "We will never put boots on the ground" is all well and good, but in this war, and it is a war, the last thing you want to do is give the enemy an advantage. By leaving it at that, Ukraine has an arm tied behind its back as Russia knows there are lines drawn in the sand for NATO. So by Macron saying "We may put troops in there" is just a form of "LOOK PUTIN!!! WE CAN ESCALATE THIS JUST AS EASILY AS YOU, SO CALM THE F*** DOWN!!!!"

Given that a half million USD is a half million USD, let's not get into an argument on who is seeking to deceive anyone here. And as I cited a source, anyone who cares to can check it. The point being, that every element of the three 'candidacies' was part of a pre-arranged setup: who was or was not allowed to enter the race based on petition compliance ought to be self-evident. Those remaining on the ballot were clearly chosen for that purpose, guaranteed the 3% required to collect for their services, and they all got at least 3%, and collected. All in a day's work, and not a serious oppositionist among them. Those had already been dealt with.

The end for Putin started way back around 2000 when he started removing opposition in politics and business, to stay in power he made enemies and then used his power to build his business empire. Once this route was chosen he knew the only way to stay alive was to stay at the top at whatever cost. Marching troops into the Donbas was a desperate attempt at boosting popularity as was heading for Kiev, Putin forgot a very wise phrase " The last bastion of ambition is failure" perhaps he should be reminded of that when his last available ancient soviet tank rolls out of the bone yard. Baffling how a modern Russia can be so misled. The fact that he feels he has to try to convince his people that the recent "election" process was fair when many know they are subject to a dictatorship perhaps says much about the extent he knows he has to go to in order to stay alive.

The last major round of mobilization that we KNOW about was when he emptied his prisons, sending many of those guys to Prighozin and his mercenaries. Well, Prighozin and his merry band are gone. My guess is that Putin has never really stopped mobilization. I'm sure his defense people are regularly drafting new recruits and conscripts from the far flung provinces to the East and the South.
