Great review and impressive jig. What's really great is how well balanced your review is highlighting the pros and cons of both, not something you see in a lot of youtube videos. Well done
THANK YOU for solving the broken bit thing every one talks about, but no one else could explain!!!
You’re welcome.
Thanks for watching
I love the homemade jigs of any kind! Nice work.
Thanks. This one saves us a lot of time
This is so innovative! I can't wait for the panel saw video. That's what I need!
I do need to get that video made about the panel saw.
Thanks for watching

I’m a custom cabinet maker and that homemade Jig is nice!! I have the Foreman I picked up on Craigslist for $100 barley used and still in the box. I like it a lot and I have the safety button locked down and use a little quick clamp to hold the trigger down. That keeps me from having to pull the trigger when I am drilling a bunch of holes. I also can stand to the side and that makes it way more comfortable to use. All that said I’m going to make one of these!!! It will come in real handy when I Have to put pocket holes in larger pieces of ply for the cases. GREAT IDEA AND THANK YOU FOR SHARING IT!!!
Thanks. We’ve been using it for a long time and its too good of an idea not to share
It looks like a foot pedal would be more comfortable.
Nice machine. I might start a cabinet shop and pick one up.
Is it possible to get more information on the build of your system. I'd love to build it for cabinet making for myself. Not sure about the air cylinder build. Thanks! Fred Bruchsaler from Illinois
Im glad you clarified your comment about the Kreg Foremen Machine, Yes" its a great DIY smaller based machine for what it is designed for However your personal design is very Impressive and definitely has its advantages for what you do.. GREAT VIDEO.. MUCH LEARNED.. THANK YOU
It is a great machine and I would recommend it for most people
I made a previous Video about our set up and people told me that the foreman would save me time. I bought one to find out
Awesome setup. I'll keep my eye out for a cheap pneumatic cylinder to build a 'single slot' version.
Do you have a part number for the cylinder you used? Thanks.

Thanks
We use the heck out of it
Definitely an axing piece,
If you list the part I'll build one, thanks for posting
thank you jessi pinkman
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching
Could we get a parts list or a link to a pedal some cylinders that would work?
You could easily add dust collection to your custom made piece. Some small round cutouts (just has to be bigger than the wood chips by like double) going to a tray with a vacuum attachment on it
Thanks for the feedback.
We may try that soon because we are looking at a new dust collector for our panel saw
Shop brilliance...! Thank you....!
Thanks
Thanks so much! i want to get into wood working and trying to find an inexpensive more efficient way to make pocket holes.
Thanks
excellent homemade machine.
I like your set up.
You don't seem to have any stops for the piece you're drilling.
Are they not needed?
What do you actually make there?
Hello and Great set up. Can you use different thickness of wood when it clamps down or do you have to adjust the air cylinders. Thanks.
You can use different thicknesses of wood. If you put a 2 x 4 in it, you have to remove the board we use at the back to stabilize.
Which is fine because the two by four is strong enough to clamp directly in the cylinders
Awesome . Thanks for taking time to reply. I'm gonna try it. Thanks.
Hi, really enjoyed this video, now a subscriber!! As many repuests,, do u have a simple build plan for ur machine,, especially the air cylinders, there hookup, etc., thanks again !!! Frank
I don’t have a plan although I’ve been meaning to make a second video showing it in more detail
Have you tried a half-decent piece of plywood to see if it too needs constant adjustment? I have never used the air cylinders so I will check into how long it might take to secure/release the piece and then mount one vertically over the Forman. I'm tired of using the drill.
We go through 100 sheets of plywood and drill 10,000 holes a week. We have to adjust the clamp constantly.
If you’re doing fine woodworking and just drilling a few holes here as there it’s a great machine. It just doesn’t really fit our needs very well
@@RockhillfarmYT Thanks. My needs are face-frame material and pre-finished plywood. You talked me into it. PS I liked the spring idea.
Thanks for watching and for sharing your feedback
I came here for the foreman. But what is this sorcery you have going on with the home made jig??? Lol
Dang that’s cool
Thanks.
It has been a huge time saver for us
can I buy the plan? thank you
Yeah I agree about the clamp on the KREG Foreman. I think an automaxx clamp would have been a better way to go…
What kind of stuff do you guys make?
Pitching mounds
An Inside Look at our Manufacturing Operation - How I Earn My Living
czcams.com/video/qJnAMJr8EiE/video.html
Nice jig, used my Kreg Forman for six years never ever had a glitch !!! The monkey drilling holes was probably using dull drill bits !!! Second: Forman is .ment to be used right handed !!! Third::: stops built in and great rules built in ... Nothing wrong with the Forman !!! More like monkey operation errors !!! Love your jig , with a little thought I'm shure you can solve you dust control issues ... like dust hood on the opposite side of were your blowing the air ... looking forward to watching your panel saw video ...
I think for the average woodworker the foreman is perfect
If you’re drilling 3000-4000 holes a day, our set up works better
Very cool custom set up. BTW It was easy to see the wood shift when you used the Foreman - maybe a 1/16? A 1/32... it was hard to tell how much? I'm guessing if you are using a harder wood, that shift would be a problem. (I wonder how Matthias Wandel would make your custom jig?)
The only way to avoid the wood shifting is to lock the adjustment down really tight which starts to wear the skin off your thumb before too long
Who is Matthias wandle?
Thanks for watching.
@@RockhillfarmYT CZcams creator who has built all of his workshop tools from scratch. Invented the Pantorouter. Anywhooo....your custom jig is more than just a single function solution. The leaning tray to hold 10 boards, foot peddle open close, air sprays dust out after each cut etc. Just reminded me of his work.
Thanks. I’ll check that out
I seriously thought by now Kreg would have updated or made improvements to that machine.
What irks about the Foreman is if you see what the original version looked like. The current one looks like it was made by Fischer Price.
Do you have plans for your jig
We run our homemade jig several hours a day so I keep the Kreg as a back up in case something breaks on it
Your video and audio are superb ... what camera, mic, and editing software are you using?
GoPro hero nine black, with a rode mic and iMovie
@@RockhillfarmYT very nice, I’ve the Hero7 ... not sure what’s new about the 9 but I’ve insurance so maybe I’ll get upgraded to it eventually if it breaks. Is that the Rode VideoMicro for about $60? I was going to buy it along with the case that holds the mic adapter on the bottom but wasn’t sure if the quality but is superb on your video.
The one I have is $100 and it’s elongated. I also have the $60 one and they are pretty close to the same
You definitely want to get the dead cat instead of the foam puff for deadening wind
@@RockhillfarmYT thanks for the info! I was looking at Ulanzi V3 case so I could use ND filters if needed ... what do you think of that one? Which tripod did you choose?
I have that case that you are talking about. It works well. On the newer models they make something called a media mod that is similar but already has the mic adapter built into it.
For the go pro seven you’ll also need the mic adapter if you don’t already have it
I have a couple of different tripods but here in a little bit I’ll find the one that I like the best and share a link
Do you sell the plans and parts list for the homemade pneumatic pocket hole jig?
I do not. I don’t have part numbers for the cylinders because I went to a local hydraulic/pneumatic shop and asked them for all the stuff I needed and I didn’t save any of that info
I’ve been thinking about putting together something like that.
Thanks for watching
@@RockhillfarmYT THANK YOU for the video and quick reply. I glanced at your baseball mound website and am impressed with the quality of your products. Have a great New Year!
Thanks
Happy new year
What size air cylinders are you using
I’ll look up that info for you tomorrow. I kept the labels I think
@@RockhillfarmYT thxgreat vid I’ll subscribe and share
Thanks
I just bought a Foreman and have finished two book case projects that were about half pocket hole fastened... Not a single complaint.
Yeah.
It is a very nice machine
@@RockhillfarmYT nice shop. What are you guys mainly manufacturing here?
@@jamesmyers2087 we manufacture portable pitching mounds
@@RockhillfarmYT Thanks, brother. Great video, great info. We’re retired military here. We sell some art and are trying to make some art furniture. Sculpting tables, easels, frames and cnc cut/burned novelties. I don’t think I’m going to get rich doing it, but I want the SIL to learn all the machines and products to possibly take it as his own one day. Cheers.
I think it would be fun to make custom products like that. We mass produce the same products everyday
Awesome setup. Very efficient and much better than the foreman. You should probably just throw the foreman on the floor man lol. Dust collection would be an easy addition to your jig. Cheers and happy woodworking!
Thanks
I'll buy it from you
Wow what are you building stuff out of CD ply? Trim/cabinet materials don't have the same variable thickness issues as the materials you use, so that probably should've been something for you to point out.
Kreg Foreman all the way
I love it for my professional cabinetry shop 👍🏼
I’m glad it works well for your application.
I mentioned in the video that I think it’s a great machine for what it’s designed to do
When I bought one for my guys I thought it was an upgrade but they don’t like using it, because it’s slower and not as user friendly
You must go thru batteries pretty quickly drilling at that pace.
Yeah, there is a Charging bank right behind this drill station that has five of the 4 AMP batteries So there is always one charged
We get a couple years out of them before they start to run down though
I did something amazing about 17 years ago when I bought my first Kreg Jig. I actually read the manual my wife even took a picture of that.
What I learned was that if you use a corded drill the rpm of the bit accelerates faster than a battery powered drill. The bit stays sharper.by generating less heat at a higher speed. Thus the bit stays sharp longer. 😁🛫
Thanks for the tip.
I will say that our bits last much longer in our cordless drill than they do in the foreman jig which was designed by kreg
You could easily add a pneumatic drill to this station
That is a great idea. I will talk to my guys about that on Monday.
My only concern is what speed those drills turn at and if it would be better or worse for the life of the drill bits.
Worth finding out though
@@RockhillfarmYT Another significant factor for keeping the drill bit cooler is using a vacuum attachment. It removes the chips as they are created plus the airflow over bit cannot hurt. It's hard to say if the higher RPM from a corded drill will help keep the bit cooler vs. a battery-powered drill. Mostly I've read that the higher RPM will result in a cleaner cut of the hole edges.
Would you be willing to post a more close up of the way you wired everything? And links for the products on Amazon so you can make some $$?
I would really like to do that and make a follow up video showing how to build it but I did not order the pneumatic parts online. I went to a local shop and just told him what I wanted and I didn’t write down parts numbers
Basically I’m saying it would take a little time to figure out exactly what components were needed
@@RockhillfarmYT I appreciate you responding in the first place. It means a lot. I didn’t know how much time would go into it so I tonight I’d ask. To understand better, are the pistons constantly under pressure and need constant air to keep the pressure? I ask because we have a small air compressor and if it needs air to open, that’s fine. If it needs air most of the time then we will need to get a bigger compressor. That was the biggest question I had!
@@jessicalane107 while a board is clamped in it, it is under pressure and then you hit the foot pedal and it releases the pressure. Even though it’s under pressure that pressure is not escaping
We ran it off a small compressor for a few months and then stepped up to a big one.
The small one was running continuously to keep up which was really loud and hard on it
Well I don’t know if Craig was making that for commercial use they’re probably focused on the home DIY person
You are correct sir. I’m definitely not their target customer
Why not use an electric drill instead of a battery?
The point is speed and convenience, a cord takes away from that
@@RockhillfarmYT how so? 😆 Your drilling in one spot...
I'd be interested in buying the foreman if you don't need it anymore..
Thanks, but we need to keep it As a back up.
If our main unit is down for a day or two for repairs we have to still be able to drill
If you want to sell the Kreg system I will purchase it from you!
I have thought about selling it but decided it’s better to keep a back up system in case we have a failure with the other and have to order parts
Kreg foreman Sucks ass for left hander. Thanks for the review. I’m not getting one now.
I’m glad it helped
You should switch to being a righty like a normal person.
apples and oranges....
You need to work on your audio
Have you though about a castle pocket machine?
Im not sure it would be faster but it looks like it has its advantages besides the price.
but in a commercial enticement it might be worth it
castleusa.com/products/a00024-tsm-22-pocket-cutter-machine.html
I had never heard of them until about a month ago when someone else shared it with me.
Looks really well built and like it could be a great machine but it’s pretty expensive to find out. I would pay that price if I knew that it was better for us
Thank you for taking the time to watch our video and for sharing that link
