- Welcome back everyone! I apologize for not having this video out yesterday, however; I decided to finally paint the walls in my shop! I promise, for those of you that watch my videos regularly, you will be happy I did.
So this weeks video talks about the Kreg Foreman Pocket Hole Machine. I decided to do this video for two reasons. First, because a few of my upcoming videos will discuss cabinet related material where the Foreman will be used. Second, I received a lot of questions after a recent post I did on IG where I was using it. The aim for this video is to give you an overview of how the Foreman operates and give you more information to maybe help you decide which one is right for you, should you be looking to purchase any type of pocket hole jig in the near future.
I will leave some affiliate links below on this as well as some of the other models offered by Kreg. There are other companies that make similar products, but I have never used any of them.

Big big fan of the Kreg pocket hole system. I have used Kreg tools for years in my own shop, and have never regretted it. At one time, I nearly had my employer (at the time) talked into putting a Kreg machine into production in a high volume milling plant. I bet that if this were available at that time, we would have had one or two of them in the plant.
Great demonstration of how this machine works. ...And the price is quite reasonable, less than I expected. If I were still doing a lot of projects in my shop, this would definitely be on my short list.

That's amazing! It would be a luxury for me as I simply don't do enough projects to warrant something like that, but it looks awesome. Really creative design by the folks at Kreg!

- Jason, Thanx for a full, clear explanation/demo on how to use this really great machine. The volume went so low I had to lean into the computer to hear, though. Otherwise, the info was clear.
Jason you did a better job at showing how to use this than Kreg did in their video. I really appreciate the effort you put in to have the correct camera angles so I could see how you set up the settings. Thanks for the honest review.

Man I wish I had found this video a couple months ago. I was ready to through mine out that I bought used. The holes werent deep enough. Thought it was defective. Anyway, going home today to fine tune it and get it working.
I have the same machine and love it. I am looking in the back ground at your PVC dust collection system. I will be installing a system also but not sure which way to go (pvc or metal) You having any problems with the pvc and do you have it grounded.
Tim Gilliam I only have one pipe grounded cause it didn’t have antistatic hoses. All others that have anti static hoses I have experienced no issues.
I really need one it is extremely expensive that most of the people and woodworkers cannot afford. Thanks

What adapter are you using for the rear of the unit for the vac hook up? Thanks!
What setting do you use for for 18mm plywood so the screw does not pop out the side?? Just stay short of the 3/4" line and then use the block for the 1.25" screw?
I still use the 3/4” mark. Never had an issue
i have been considering buying one of these for a while now. the only thing keeping me from doing so is that i never use my normal kreg jig. its not the jigs fault but rather the hassle of taking it out and setting it up. if im opening boxs and conecting things up i will get the domino out. .. my idea is to mount it up on a wall so that its ready to go all the time. i have a lovely spot beside where my chaging station is that would suite perfectly. hopefully the table of the kreg would come out enough to allow llonger longer pieces to pass. it would be easy to lift down i needed for larger pieces . what do you think
MelbourneAlan I was the same way. As soon as I bought this, I never used my K4 again. As a matter of fact, I just have it to a friend of mine. The only time I use pocket holes now is on 3/4 material so I never even have to change the settings. It’s a dream to use this machine.

Hi Jason, and hello to all the grafters who subscribe here. I have been reading your comments. The manufacturers videos were crap so this was really helpful thank you Jason. I am an art gallery technician in the UK. For years, I've used bench Kreg pocket hole jigs to build stud walls in art galleries because they have to be more accurate than a domestic built stud wall. Now, I have been asked to build a 9x 4m stud for a gallery. By myself, pretty much. That's a big step up and I need to minimise labour time. Can this machine's motor cope with round the clock use for several days in your opinion? Is it proper kit or lazy DIY? The machine looks like a godsend but it might be a gizmo. Anybody else got an opinion? Rob
I liked using my small k5 jig. But I stopped because I don't like that I have to use keg screws with that shoulder. How important is it that I use their screws, can a non shouldered screw hurt the joint? I have tons of drywall screws laying around. I know they are more brittle than other types but is there really that much stress on cabinets?
kilmo9 I cannot tell you with 100% certainty how important it is. I will say that I have used Different style screws and never had much of an issue. But even when I use the proper screws I don’t use the screws from Kreg because I can get them for cheaper in a larger quantity from a different supplier

I own a small finish carpentry business. We pocket screw all door and window casing, mostly pine. We currently use the K4 but I think the foreman would be faster/help production. Any input?
The foreman would definitely be faster. Check out the video I just released today.

You had mentioned that you no longer use pocket hole that much! Can you tell us when you use? I also read on FOG they do a hybrid of pocket and domino to avoid clamping using just domino. Any suggestions on that would help
I typically use it for cabinet applications and that is it.

What is your most commonly used joinery?
I just wanted to confirm with you. At 6:30 you talk about the setup gauge. My understanding is that you set that based on the screw size your using, not the material thickness. But you seem to say the opposite. Can you clarify?
There are two measurements to consider, material thickness and screw length
The dust collector needed an adapter for my shop vac hose. It was rather challenging to find.
Where did you find the adapter same thing he has hose fitting is to small
I will get the manual one, but the "man" in me wants to buy this because I am a man and that is what we do!

How do I setup depth for 1 inch?
Ended up here because I’m looking to buy one. Has there been any upgrades, updates on this model since? Seems like some improvements can be made IMO.
I’m not sure. I haven’t used mine since getting a castle pocket hole cutter

@@bentswoodworking LOL You liked it so much you bought a much more expensive one. I have looked at the Castle and know that it makes much neater holes. But, the thought came to my mind. You don't look at the holes as they are supposed to be hidden. What good is a prettier hole?

I think am going to buy it just to build cabinets for my shop and are farm builds. But labor saving is a huge thing no matter who you are your time is infinite more important than labor.
Please tell me what I’m doing wrong, can’t find a video on it. Every time I make draws and use 1/2 in plywood and i use my kreg4 it always go through the wood. What am I doing wrong, thanks.
Is your bit set to the right depth for the 1/2 wood?
Google Kreg screw chart and it will give you detailed settings for every situation 👍
@@kisercustomcabinets yes it is, but I think I didn’t do it right. I used the top part to set the depth and not on the side of the jig. Is that correct?

It seems this product is most effective when used on longer pieces where you need many holes drilled along the length of the work piece. Ironically, the base of this unit doesn't appear to be well suited for easily supporting long work pieces, especially when you're working at either end of the work piece. Yes, the clamp will keep the work piece from tilting but is the base heavy enough and/or wide enough to keep from being tilted by the work piece?
Some pull-out supports would be nice, but given where they're needed, is there any room inside the base to accommodate the slides? Plus, they couldn't be any longer than the base is wide. If the base is 18" wide, then you'd only be able to support about 54" of material. That just might be enough for 90% of the projects this tool would be ideal for, i.e. how often would you find yourself needing pocket holes along a 7-8 ft work piece?
I think you made the perfect point about this product. It is not the ultimate pocket hole tool but it does do what it does very well, save for the lateral support issue.
GuiTuber you make some good points. If I ever need to support something that long I set up some adjustable roller stand on each side
I know exactly what you are referring to as I do pocket holes in the ends of 8 feet boards. The Foreman would be easier as you can clamp it to a table. You have to balance the long board otherwise in a straight up position unless you can clamp the very end of it sideways.

As others have stated, the volume is very low. Had to turn it up dangerously loud even to hear.
Stihl_man Chainsaw yes I think I just over compensated for everyone telling me it too loud. I think I have found a happy medium since.

At 00:15 It's hard making a straight line following the ruler instead of using it as an edge guide. I would have blurred it out too if I wanted people to think I was actually drawing it and not tracing it to look cool. Ya messed up when you came into focus at the last frame to pull away the ruler and revealed that the line extends 1/4" past where you stopped the point of your pen. It was kinda cool though.
Love your videos. Although, you have to do something about your voice level... way to low compared to all the other sounds.
