      Yesss, Du Monde originated this donut restaurant I remember going there with my kindergarten class and you know how it is through years many restaurants rise up and out and nowadays many have access to our culture, spices, etc. And also emulate Du Monde the donut is ours for sure French, the place you all went to that used to be JAX Brewery the Brewing Company and along the years past Katrina it became retail and other cafes .. If you wish the have Community Crawfish and fixins at lower cost that the French Quarters, but fantastic it's Cajuns Seafoood on N. Claiborne and Esplanade Google it since Katrina they were placed in this Where Magazine as best one year I can't recall, but when I was home working at Ritz Carlton I sent many of our guest there lol they didn't care it was the hood, now all go there lol...There are others but Cajuns is downtown just outside the French Quarters accessibly by Lyft, City Buses. The Esplanade Bus runs right in front of the Cafe that you all visited catch it there with headline City Park will take you to Esplanade and N. Claiborne and you just walk down 1block and half to their address. Get the turkey necks, corn and potatoes too, lol let me know I live in California now and will be there too sometime next month or later.

    As a born-and-raised New Orleanian, I highly recommend Commander's Palace for lunch. It's across the street from a gorgeous cemetery that gives tours. Check out Stanley's, Surrey's, Irene's, Saffron, Pho Bistro, and Galatoire's (to name a few more).

    Tip from someone who gets to go to NOLA at least once per year. Share meals or you will never get to try everything!!! Have appetizers and drinks in one restaurant and a meal in another. Monteleone has the best brunch in the quarter. Pat O Briens, Acme, Ruby Slipper and Dragos are tourist traps. You can get better food and drinks in some of the more local restaurants.

      Love RnOs in Bucktown, but Deannies (around the corner from RnOs) has some awesome food too. Their mile high seafood platter, BBQ shrimp, and the fried artichoke appetizer are some of my favorites. But, don’t fill up on the free crab boiled new potatoes or you’ll never finish your meal.

    Another place in the Quarter to try char grilled oysters is Felix's. For late night eats try Buffa's - great dive atmosphere. If you can get yourself there on a Thursday night at 8 when Tom McDermott and Aurora Nealand are performing you'll here some of the most spine tingling soul stirring NOLA music you'll ever experience.

      Buffa's...now this takes me WAY back. Back in the early 90's, a large group of friends from my darts leagues used to do Saturday night tournaments there. Then, we'd do bar crawls all around into the wee hours of Sunday morning. One Sunday during the fall, we combined all of that with a stumbling, hung over breakfast, then a Saints game. My body (especially my head) couldn't hack that punishment these days. ;)

    I grew up there, then moved away, still loving return visits. Staying in the Quarter is convenient but expensive. I went to grade school with a Monteleone son. Nice hotel if you can afford it. I didn't scroll all of the comments, but I would recommend Parkway Tavern near Bayou St. John for great po-boys; they claim to have invented them. No frills picnic or bar dining, but great food. Foodies can find lots of less famous eateries. Yum, enjoy.

Besides that a lot of places are open for business, there’s still many people walking the French Quarter, and tours are still operating. I went on a swamp tour, ghost and vampire, and cemetery although we couldn’t get inside the cemetery because of Covid it was the most informative tour for me. Just wear your mask. It's not worth wasting your money; Trust me!! And don't bother going to The Gumbo Shop. The food's eatable, but not worth the hype. Now for all of you Fried Chicken folk out there, Willie's Chicken Shack is the way to go. They fry their chicken fresh on the spot. It's definitely worth the wait.

      Maison de la Luz is a new guest house type of hotel. Had a friend stay there and said it was beautiful and they loved it there. On yelp they have a 5 star rating. I have personally stayed in the Omni Royal and was very pleased with my stay, although the room was a bit small. If you book a room there using any kind or online booking like hotels.com they would not allow us to upgrade to anything larger. Not sure if you will have a vehicle there, but many places you have to pay to park so factor that into the existing hotel bill. Want to say the Omni Royal was charging 25 a day to park. Monrose Row Bed and Breakfast (1839). very old beautiful home with lots of history still within walking distance from the French Quarter. The only other hotels I have been to but haven't really stayed in personally was the Hyatt and the Sheraton which is at the foot of Canal Street. By the way, there is a small ferry there which you guys can take across the Mississippi River to Algiers point couple of bars and restaurants there as well. Enjoy your next trip and please have a Bloody Mary for me. They are the best down there. I currently live in St Louis and miss many things about home. No other place has that type of culture, history and food.

    • @TheUrbanCowgirl
      @TheUrbanCowgirl  Před 4 lety

      So uncooked flour has this very distinct flavor and mouthfeel, and I felt like I tasted it on the oysters at Drago's. Now, I have since been informed that we didn't go to "the right" Drago's and we need to go to the orginal (which we will). At first I thought it was creamier than the Acme Oysters, but then that raw flour taste hit me and I just can't hang with that. There was parm on there too but this was underneath. Maybe it was just a weird order and that's not how they usually are but I much prefer straight compound butter and melted parm.
