  • Come with us for a full day of eating at the most iconic restaurants of New Orleans! Nola is my favorite city in the United States, and the food here is rich and decadent - some of the most unique you'll find anywhere.
Here's a list of the restaurants where we ate, and what we ate:
    1. Elizabeth's Cafe: We brunched on fried oysters with poached eggs and potatoes and praline bacon! Praline is a confection made by combining nuts, sugar, and butter.
    2. Willie Mae's Scotch House: Some have argued that the best fried chicken in America is served here. We had an order with three pieces and fried okra bites.
    3. Gumbo Shop: A popular place for Cajun and Creole cuisine in the French Quarter. We try the soup trio (seafood gumbo, chicken andouille gumbo, and turtle soup) and shrimp creole, crawfish etouffee, and jambalaya.

And I've now been to the Gumbo Shop. I had the chicken and andouille gumbo, and it was the best I ever had.

Some people like that thick gravy gumbo but that’s definitely not how my mom made it, it’s also much darker in color, it all looks thick and not appealing to me

Why does she do air quotes when she says “new Orelans”? Is she saying it ironically or sarcastically? Lol

AP Hill, it is part of the culture. Nawlins has a long history of fine fried chicken. I have seen people lined up at 5:30 am to buy fried chicken. So there are many "enlightened" folks who appreciate the many cuisines of NOLA. Next time you are there, on a Thursday go to Lil Dizzy's and get smothered okra....with fried chicken. Then you will understand ;-)
