We use Sony Alpha series cameras to film our videos. They are compact so you don’t look like a super tourist when you take great pictures and videos while you travel.

We use Manfrotto Tripods. They are compact, travel well, and honestly I would not use another tripod for my nice cameras.

Facts I live there to they DON'T CARE
Don’t get offended when someone calls you baby, darlin, hunny, luv, sweetie, etc. We call everyone that here. I use it for guys and girls I ain’t hitting on you baby
Wafflemonster33 You forgot Sugar!!! Lol!!
Thats so getto
Lol literally any state in the south. Those from the north may need to know this though lol.
Dutchess Eberline you don’t know ghetto if you think that ghetto
Thanks love
Also, another tip I would add for first-time visitors is to give up the idea of getting an "early start" to the day. A large portion of the city doesn't even think about opening until 11. You'll just be out walking around looking at closed shops and people spraying the funk off the sidewalks. Long story short, take your time getting ready in the morning.
Good idea. However, I love the Quarter in the morning. No hollering and loud music playing (which is fun at night) and everything seems more bright and beautiful - especially the beautiful balcony flowers throughout the neighborhood. Plus, most of the restaurants that have the famous breakfasts are open! Chicory coffee always tastes the best to me at that time! To each his own, though.
Well, I guess that's why it's known as "the Big Easy"...
perfect 💯
That’s good to know, thanks.
Question "Where did you get your shoes?"
Ansewer "Same place I got my gun."
An actual conversation is heard in New Orleans during Mardi Gras in 1996.
LMAO seems fuckin legit!
You gots yo' gun on yo' feet??
@@Dudemon-1 Yes, I don't f*ck around.
Do not say this. That's a complete insult and could get you shot but some hot head
Correct answer: “On my feet!”
I feel like "Don't pee in public" is a good rule everywhere.
I agree. Why does that seem like a thing to say about visiting New Orleans? Would you say that about visiting New York?
The Dutch handle drinking allot and peeing the right way. They have open air places to just step behind and relieve yourself.
Also don't poop in public
mardi gras is rough tho
They WILL take you to jail over that. Seen it happen.
Do not wear black when eating beignets.
Bahaha,True Dat!😁
Facts!!!
Greg Gross why?

But they taste so much better when wearing black!
Another oddball thing to add: don't be alarmed when strangers make small talk with you, or even go into stuff going on in their personal lives, including but not limited to medical history. We'll do all this without even learning your name! 😂 And please don't think someone is being condescending or creepy when a stranger calls you a pet name like "darling", "honey", "baby", or "sweetie", especially if you look younger than them.
You are not lying! Lol. The first time I visited I was thrown off by this because in cities up north we don’t talk to people we don’t know other than a simple head nod to say hello and if a person you don’t know DOES start talking to you, they usually have an angle, and they want something or they’re setting up to rob you or something. New Orleans is my favorite city in America to visit.
Or Cher. 😊
I lived near Nola for a few years. Fit right in being a Texan.
Being from Germany I had visited New Orleans in Oct. 2023 and found it always relaxed, with very friendly and helpful people. We had some good chats with musicians and the Crescent Festival was the perfect finish of our Bluestrail.
Love you Nola!❤
He pretty much nailed it. I would add, after dark, DON’T take a stroll down the side streets! Stay/walk where you see the most people.
Oscar Wind That not proper English...
I live near Baltimore I know what you mean, Baltimore is a warezone
Isn't that everywhere
Glob was here! No, it’s not everywhere. But, in NOLa, even the side streets have activity... and you have to be wary of which streets you decide to walk down, to get to the major thoroughfares.
@@nlee2492 there can be activity anywhere. You could live in a quiet neighborhood and still have something bad happen to you
Don’t be freaked out by everyone wanting to visit the cemetery!! Number one thing you forgot to mention. Our cemeteries are not creepy, dreadful rows and rows of headstones. They’re bright, wonderful, historic mini-buildings worth taking a tour through!
yeah, they kinda can't be headstones since it'd be under the waterline lol
How do you get in? Access was friends and family only when we vlogged New Orleans
I got married in St. Louis #3 on Halloween (I live in tremé btw) and I think it’s actually the most New Orleans wedding ever. So my (now) husband is a truck driver and is gone for 6-10weeks at a time we never know when he’ll be home or for how long and So I love Halloween, we’ve been coming to New Orleans for Halloween since we first started dating like 5 years before we moved here (moved here in 2015) and we got engaged on Halloween in the quarter in 2016 and I always wanted to her married in a NOLA cemetery. so we found out he as going to be able to stop home for like 16 hours on Halloween and only had 2 days to plan so we found a minister on thumbtack and then realized all of our friends were either busy with their kids or out of town so we didn’t have any witnesses. So I posted about it on Nextdoor and asked a bunch of strangers in the neighborhood to help out and I got 3 responses right away and I posted the time and location on the nextdoor post and didn’t think anything of it.. so Halloween afternoon we go to the cemetery to meet our 3 witnesses and minister and there were tons of people just kind of standing around and then I overheard someone say “oh im here for the wedding too!” and it turns out that ALL these people were there to be guests at our very quick and very casual wedding despite never meeting us before. Some of them even brought little gifts and stuff. I mean, what’s more New Orleans than that? A bunch of strangers coming together to celebrate the marriage of two other strangers and turning it into a festive, Halloween Second line celebration. But yes, our cemeteries are so beautiful, unique and special. They’re a must if you come to visit. Sorry for the novel. I (just like everyone else I’m sure) am starved for human interaction and I miss the energy of the city and the music and the people so much and I’m trying to think and talk about fun and happy stuff since living in New Orleans has been such a challenge these last few months and with all this negative energy around us and these storms brewing in the gulf I just wanted to share a fun and happy story to remind myself and other people about how special this city and the people of this city are since it’s quite easy to forget these days. Anyway, stay safe friends!
The cemetery is creepy at night. Not during day.
It was funny but true if you see a pretty girl in the quarter make sure its a girl if your interested. Some you will never know.
When walking in the French Quarter, especially on Bourbon Street, DO NOT EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE the guys who come up to you. Just act like you didn't hear them and KEEP WALKING.
Will they mug you or kick your ass if you acknowledge them?
Same question
@@marcoabreo6506 muggings don’t happen in New Orleans bro
@@marcoabreo6506 Nah thell just tell you random things just ignore them and keep walking people just like talking.
Why
My wife and I spend a week in New Orleans every year, and we almost ALWAYS stay in the Quarter - we love the late night noise!!!
Can you recommend any hotels with a balcony view of the parades ?
@@gbw003 If you're asking about Mardi Gras parades, they don't run in the French Quarter - I've never visited N.O. during this time, but they begin on Canal and make their way down St. Charles (through the Garden District.) If there are hotels with balcony views of the parade, I'm not much help. Many hotels in the French Quarter are going to have some rooms with outward facing balconies - and they're typically the most expensive. We like the balcony rooms at Four Points, many of which open right out onto Bourbon. It's going to be noisy through the night, but I love it - If I want peace and quiet, I could just stay home!
@@skeeterskier I see a Four Points Hotel by Sheraton on Bourbon Street, I'll research their availability, not worried about the noise I'm not looking for a good night's sleep, thank you for the feedback, greatly appreciated !!
@@gbw003 My pleasure. If you have any other questions about NO, feel free to ask.
@@skeeterskier The other way around sir. They begin uptown and move down Canal.
Some "Do's" (from a local):
1. DO ask locals for recommendations and directions. Easiest way to identify a "local" is someone dressed in a work uniform that may be coming to or from work. Generally, the people here are very friendly and love to share their favorite places
2. DO take the sticker off your shirt if you've completed a tour. Tour guides put stickers on so they can tell who is in the group. If you leave it on and walk away from the tour, you've got a target on your forehead that says "I'm a tourist"
3. DO be aware of how STRONG the drinks are. They can taste like candy, for easy sipping as you stroll through the Quarter. But the drinks here generally have a much higher alcohol content than most people are used to
4. DO be smart...take the usual precautions you would take in ANY big city. If you do that, you will be fine. New Orleans is no more dangerous for tourists than most large cities
5. DO eat at places that look "scary" and that you've never heard of. That's where most of the best food is
I had a fish bowl yesterday. I was like oh I don't feel nothing and then it kicked in I was like whoa! Lol
Can you recommend a voodoo, cemetery, ghost tour? I've see several but none that stick out. Looking for a night one.
Can you recommend some places to eat, those as you said - not too known but with the best food?
Just to be clear NewOrleans is slightly more dangerous as it has one of the highest under rates in the country
Why would I take the sticker off nothing wrong with tourists
My oldest daughter and I use to go to French Quarter Festival every year for years. She was suppose to get married there in April of last year. Everything was planned. She was even going to have a Second Line parade down Bourbon. Unfortunately she passed away 2 months before her wedding. I haven't been back since.
but our family and friends will go down to spread her ashes. We all said after she passed, that on her way to heaven she stopped in New Orleans. I'm going to start going back down. We loved it there. I know she's there in spirit.
Renee Taylor Prayers for peace for you and your family!!!!! 💓
Renee Taylor I’m so sorry for your loss.
We're a very ghost-friendly city. If she's here, she's welcome and probably having a blast.
So sorry to hear that! I hope that whenever you’re ready to come back, that everyone here shows you that great hospitality that we have! That broke my heart a lil bit. Sorry for your lost hun. 😘💔
Joel Farrelly lol ain’t that the truth. Especially the quarters!

I like your honesty, truth on a real actual visit and how to avoid those pitfalls. Thank you Mark. I always enjoy listening to what you have to say.
No sandles or open shoes on bourbon st., especially during mardi gras. Hell, wear a pair of shoe you don't mind throwing away.

I'm from New Orleans, I clicked on this expecting to laugh at how wrong it was. Actually, it was all pretty good advice.
Haha same!
Same, lol. I was so curious even though I’ve lived here my entire life.
I swear this man doesn’t miss with his advice
Me too, born and raised. When I was a little girl it was called New Or le ans.
When my siblings and I were teenagers, we weren't interested in going to our reunion in Mississippi, until my dad bribed us with a trip to new Orleans. We all went to the reunion.
I've been to NOLA five times, and I've been to all the places he's named, and what he says is so true. The food is its own world and a must. The locals are friendly, and will call you all types of endearments, so don't get offended. But trust me, the quarter at night is an experience you have to have at least once in your life. And yes, take the trolley. I loved it. We stayed at a B&B and used the trolley to get to the quarter, but we did use our car to go to the plantations and other sights. You don't have to use a tour group to visit these places, but if it's your first time, you might want to.
Really enjoying your channel! Thank you for the content!

I think the #1 and most important thing out of all of these things: if you need to take a break or take a photo, please don't stand in the middle of the sidewalk and please be mindful of the people behind you. A lot of people are trying to get to work/appointments practically sprinting and you may be going 1 mile per hour and block the entire sidewalks. The sidewalks are very very narrow.
Good point!! Some tourists just stand there, blocking the sidewalk, like no one lives here.
I love this comment. I directed an art gallery in the Quarter, and what I always had to tell myself is many of the visitors were not used to walking on sidewalks. New Yorkers know the ballet of side walking. People from small towns just don't understand. Just smile and walk around them. Nola is a great town.
This was a wonderful 👏 ❤ 😊 vedio with alot of helpful information
I live in California and was in New Orleans earlier this month. What an amazing city. I can't wait to go back. It's Mardi Gras today and I'm wearing all the festive clothing I bought during my trip. 🎭

The fair is $1.25 a ride or you can purchase a day pass for $3.00 and ride as many times as you want/need.
Well worth the money.
It’s not a trolley. It’s a street car. And never forget that, hun!
Yeah. We're not far away and I usually find a good room in the Garden District then day pass everywhere. Leave the car where it's protected and have a blast. Grew up all over the city, so I must have the vibe. No one ever tries to hustle me.
Local born and bred...don't call them trolleys. They're streetcars. And they ride on the neutral ground, not the median.

Yes. You should wear all white clothes too
@Mara L I was just saying to wear white on Bourbon street cause the next day it will no longer be white if ya catch my drift
@Mara L Wtf😂 nvm forget I said anything😂 idek how to respond to that smh
Thanks for sharing very informative!
Awesome tips. I have been there several times. However. I appreciate your advice!
Good advice. I live in north Louisiana (a different world) and go to NOLA once or twice a year. I would emphasize be aware of your surroundings. Don't find yourself wandering off the beaten path, especially when intoxicated. Also, you don't have to go to a famous restaurant to get truly great food. There is amazing food everywhere at every price level.
There are really good restaurants on the North Shore.
Very good video, especially #11!!! A couple of do's to pass on: Do go to the Cafe Du Monde and have a great cup of coffee and some Beignets. Do ride the Steamboat Natchez! Do enjoy the street performers and lastly, DO enjoy the music. There are some very talented people there who just enjoy playing music!
Nailed it again. Walk with groups. Agree, don’t fall for the shoe con. They will harass you. I love to get up early, go to cafe DuMonde, walk around the French Quarter. The architecture, history, and food are worth the trip.
Great video, I feel well prepared for my trip!
Where are you going?
As a New Orleans tour guide with 19 years of experience I agree with most of this EXCEPT the don't come in July/August. At this time there are fewer people, offbeat festivals you never knew existed AND many hotels and restaurant are giving discounts to those brave enough to bear the heat. For some people August can be the best and most affordable time. But expect sub-tropical weather...hot...humid...rain.
Charles Duffy - agree. You just spend more time inside during the heat of the day. Lots of bars, restaurants, museums, Aquarium... if you never feel the heat and humidity, you will never understand Tennessee Williams ‘ world or why Satchmo always wiped his brow.
I was just there yesterday on a day trip. I had no idea y everyone was wearing red dresses, it was the red dress run. There's always something lol. And it was so humid and hot but wasnt too bad since im from Mississippi
I agree! Disney World in the summertime is a WAY worse experience, yet people do that without a second thought!
@@nosecretstours Good lord, I would NEVER dream of doing even one day at Disney World in July or August. My crazy father dragged me to Orlando when he was visiting his relatives in Tampa and Miami and wanted to check out the park. Of course, you'd be thinking: why would a teen not want to see DW?! The crowds and the oppressive heat.
It was so crowded that it was impossible to walk without bumping into at least two people. For me, the adult version of Disney is New Orleans. I sooo need to find time to come back here some day. Also, I have a personal reason: I would like to come and pay my respects to my favorite writer: Anne Rice. Her popularity has NOT diminished since her passing. In fact, her book series Lives of the Mayfair Witches is a top TV show on the AMC channel. Alexandra Daddario in fact, won the lead role as Rowan Mayfair. Harry Hamlin is also in the show.
don't not throw a flag on an obvious pass interference that would have sent the saints to the Super Bowl
Amen!
No it wouldn't have drew brees threw a pick in overtime I'm sick of ppl blaming that one call for the reason they lost the game and honestly that was good defense to me
Don't choke away a 13-0 and 20-10 lead, especially after choking the previous year by letting Minnesota beat you with that desperation pass.
@@mizzle2264That is the reason why they lost the game genius. Obviously you don't know too much about football.
@@LoganCharlesII Your team probably didn't even make the playoffs.
Cool video. Thanks for sharing. New Orleans is either my second or third favorite city in the U.S.
Detroit, then Nola/Boston for me. Fantastic towns with fantastic architecture and fantastic people.
Wow ! You really touched every base, Great stuff ! Here's one for you... I was there years ago on a photography convention, taught photography and worked at the convention then. From New York, I had my Nikon F4 then shooting slide film. A cop stopped me, on Bourbon Street and nicely told me to go back to my hotel and leave that camera behind ! Huh...Then said he just didn't feel like doing a ton of paperwork, on a tourist , and not getting home on time because I was dead, and my camera was gone. From New York...I knew that was from the heart, and it was low key the rest of the night. But not before I got Marie's cript in cemetary 1 alone early morning no tours then and inside the Plantation , No flash, and the paddle boats parked along the Mighty Mississippi ( Chevy Chase ) at 5:30AM...Loved it all...Keep up the videos, come to New York City, been shooting here over 30 years...I'll point, you Talk ....LOL
Loved this video I’m in Houma and you represented it well! Thanks for sharing, and telling of the do’s and don’ts! People should apply this when going anywhere!
We stayed ONE night on Bourbon Street. Jumped in the car and put it in the rear-view mirror. Ended up in Houma and loved it.
