I learned this “labeling” tip from my dad. Take a Sharpie and write the name of the medication (and any instructions) on the CAP of the Rx. For instance, Levo 1/d (Levothyroxine once per day). My night pill has ZZZ on the lid. When you get the refill, just swap out caps. This is especially helpful if the printing on the label is very small.
On OTC, I write how many to take, and the expiration date. For instance, on something for headaches, I’ll write 2x6hr exp 2/22.

I've just recently discovered your videos and I cannot express just how grateful I am. I always kept a neat and clean home until about ten years ago when chronic health issues and debilitating pain tremendously slowed me down more and more. My housekeeping and organizational efforts have taken a nosedive. Taking an hour to wash my dishes (no dishwasher aside from the two hands God gave me) is not an exaggeration because I need to take breaks. I love your style and the way you present yourself as well as the lessons you've learned and put into practice along your journey. Plus I don't hear you reminding me three times during each video of every one of the books you've written by title (no offense to *her* --another organizational expert-- but those titles are best noted in the description section, but that's just my opinion). You also don't push the "it's easy, just do it!" mentality. You say to take 2 minutes, take 20 minutes. I can work with that method. *She* must have said just "do the dishes" a dozen times in one video and then demonstrated unloading and loading her dishwasher which might have taken her all of 3 minutes. 🙄 My pain is real and I understand that the entire audience is not in my predicament and most people can even wash dishes by hand in a fraction of the time it takes me. What I'm trying to say is, I get you. And like a really good Church Minister, you feed me I a way that is good.

I'm in the same boat. It really stinks having a brain that thinks I can still do everything and a body that won't let me. I do keep a small tote bag near my chair and that has helped me with containing the clutter and putting things away. (Especially when toting things up the stairs) I've always been very independent, so it really bothers me to ask for help but I've learned to delegate the big things, or they never get done. I also do chair exercises for five minutes at least every hour on the hour. Gotta keep using it before I lose it. When microwaving or doing a chore I make sure to add some kind of movement while I wait. It's not easy but I force it. Praying for you...

My mom used to rhyme about stuff - a lot. She would say, “A place for everything, and everything in its place.” Her favorite was about my glasses, which I always was taking off and just leaving somewhere: “On the face, or in the case!” My kids now say this to me - so apparently that one didn’t work, but it definitely got passed down to the next generation. 😂

I got totally overwhelmed so I'm trying to get all the one-time projects out of the way (changing curtains, hanging pictures in bedroom) so I can focus on ongoing ones with a clearer mind.
I have an illness that keeps me in bed A LOT, but I try to do 2 chores every time I get up (dishes, trash out, meal prep, quick vacuum) so that the daily things don't totally spiral out of control.
Now if I can get one-time chores done, it will seem more manageable.

"Don't bring something home until you know where it's going to live" works well combined with limiting items to a certain space. When I'm at a store and see something I like, in addition to considering price and whether I will actually use it, I picture the space where I'll store it and determine if there's room for it. If not, I don't buy it. This has limited the number of kitchen gadgets and appliances I buy due to the limited space. Although I still really really want a Kitchen Aid mixer....

Rule #2: Like With Like- All like objects live together. And we do mean all.
Rule #3: Something In, Something Out- Once you reach stuff equilibrium-having enough of everything that serves you and nothing that doesn’t-when something comes in, something goes out.

I actually go over the routine in the car as soon as I pull into the driveway. It preps me to actually do it when I come in.

tried your kitchen inventory and shopping lists-wow! I found many expired items- the purge almost felt cathartic-which then lead to menu planning, kicking out the cooking rut having an awesome food week! Bonus- Found boxes of glass storage jars in storage to organize the kitchen drawers and cupboards. Thank you❣️

Point number three - I think of these as “transitions”. It is easy to disregard them, because the “important” parts of your day are “being out doing errands” and then then “at home prepping lunch” etc. But I found it really helpful to acknowledge the transition phase between these parts of your day, and to acknowledge what needs to happen to successfully move from one stage to the next, and then build a mini routine for it.

But I find if I can find a balance and at least have one time during the day where we all take responsibility for the shared home, it makes life manageable and my home far more peaceful😌

Yay! No pantry. But one time we had one but we didnt know WHAT it WAS??!!! It was a 2 door closet in the kitchen with a light and a switch to turn it on. On the Outside of it. Wow. It had these deeeeeep shelves someone put in there 5 i think. I was in 5th grade and I lay in each of the shelves i could put a twin bed in there. We werent handy back then but when my brother moved into his second house with his wife they had one but someone put all the shelves all the way around the inside and you could walk in and take something off a shallow shelf that had a lip to hold things in. And you could see everything. Wow. Ours was a mish mash of food cans potatoes bags of rice pastas lamps lamp shades vases Christmas decor who knows? I wish we had popped those shelves out and put in shallow ones. But we didn't know you could! Lol

I was guilty of moving things from one area to another without an actual system in place. Like return items---they would just sit on the counter then I'd move it to make dinner and they just floated from one area to another until I took care of the return instead of just using a spot specifically made for returning items. Once I found a system, it helped soo much!

I'm also trying to get into the habit of getting rid of clothes that I have not worn for more than a year, this December will be a big purge, anything I don't feel comfortable wearing, tight or just not me anymore is going bye bye!!! thank you for he advise on decluttering closets 😍😀

I live in a small home. I don't follow traditional rules- I just don't have closets or cabinet space. So, I do what works for me. I ditched my wide dresser in my bedroom & replaced it with a quality, but simply designed clothing rack on wheels instead. It holds a lot more clothing, easy to see what you have & hang up after washing/laundered. Think outside the box is what I have to do.

I've been reorganizing my house. Currently there's a lot of clutter. Part of the problem is how the storage areas are. They need to be redone. However, I am going through all of the cupboards and drawers. I do donate tons, recycle. My other biggest issue is due to my health tanking on me earlier this year, I have very little stamina and everything takes a long time.
I decluttered, cleaned, and reorganized 2 areas of my kitchen last Friday. Thinking my husband would freak because I had left a bit of a mess on the stove. He didn't even notice the stove. He was thrilled with the visible progress in the 2 areas.

I can so relate to the bad habits you had because I was (and still am by nature) the same way and I'm now making a conscious effort to be more organized and mindful of our space and what is in it. In order to accommodate an additional table and seating for a dinner party we had (pre Covid shutdown) I rearranged our sofa and loveseat which not only opened up the space but spurred me on to rethinking rooms, cupboards and closets (the bane of my existence.) I have a fun tip, when labeling your items you can add or incorporate images that go with the item. For instance, in Cricut Design Space, I just searched for "white rice", and found a cute rice bowl design with chopsticks that says White Rice in the bowl part of the image, which was perfect for the large bin I store it in. It just makes it so more fun to do the tedious task of organizing and labeling. You don't need a fancy design, you can do something as simple as chocolate chip, or marshmallows for those container, even individual pasta shapes. Think like you're picking an emoji for the word. Not only is it cute, it can help little ones to "help" you get things and put them away 😉
If you don't have a cricut, or can't find what you want, you can search google for images and fonts, design your labels with a free software, print them and then secure them with packing tape to "laminate" and protect it. Either way, it really makes it fun, kids might even have fun helping you find and pick the images. 😊

So there’s a time to label and a time not to…just throwing that out there for anyone it may help. Even so, My label maker is still one of my greatest investments ever.

I agree with everything except the pantry. By having an expanded pantry, I can buy when things are on sale and I never have to feel there's nothing for dinner. I do have it sorted and all that, but I put the pantry in what was the guest room since it was unused anyway. I don't have a basement or garage, so I guess you can call that room my garage. LOL

Another great way to say put it away now and not later that I love and really helps me is: “one touch method”. Instead of moving an item once or twice before putting it away think to yourself how can I touch this once. So instead of putting your jacket on a chair then later putting it in the closet just put it in the closet right away. I learned this from Emily Norris and it’s been life changing (when I actually practice til lol). Thanks so much for this video, really love this type of content. So helpful! Maybe it is age and the longevity of marriage. But I have been doing all these tips for years. I guess mom’s motto, “a place for everything and everything in its place” stuck through the years. And “Don’t put off what you can do now”. Don‘t procrastinate. It is easier to get it over with now than see what needs to be done and put it off. That way it is always tidy. Some things I label, mainly pantry stuff like flours and sugars, etc. But I really don’t want my house looking like a store with labels all over the place. But If that works for you, and helps by all means I am for it. Especially when husbands and children are involved that need help in keeping things organized. First in first out helps in pantry with dry goods, cans, pastas etc. I work at a food pantry and that is how we operate. That will help in your grocery buying, also in menu making. Use what you have, work around that mentality. Be creative too. Don’t buy something for “maybe I could” especially because it is on sale. . Because you most likely won’t. Lastly take it easy on yourself. Don’t’ be so rigid that organization has become a compulsion. A house is to live in. Relax an enjoy.
