As a cop wife and cop mom, put your insurance info in a small, flat clip on your visor.
The cop sees your hands, when you need to grab it, and you will be reminded (hopefully) to keep your updated info in there.
It’s easier to forget about those expiration dates when it’s in your glove box.
I’m not one to keep this info in my phone. I need the paper! 😉

Sometimes there's a good reason for duplicates. I keep a candle lighter in the two places I use them most: the bathroom and the living room. I keep scissors in the kitchen, sure -- but there's always a pair at arm's reach in my living room, and a super-sharp pair in my craft room.

I use binder clips for bag clips. Very strong, you probably already have some in your office supplies, if not you can get a whole bunch of them for cheap, they store in less space than most bag clips, and they're virtually indestructible.

You are one of the "CZcams moms" that I watch a lot and I've been trying to go around and say this as a "holiday gift," in a way.
Your content may be geared to moms, but it's also helping myself and a bunch of my other LGBT+ friends that were rejected by our families. We spent our time being ridiculed rather than being allowed to learn how to live.
Thank you for being here to help us fill in the gaps. The quality of my life, and those of several of my friends, has improved greatly.

Certain tools and things I like to have one on each floor at least. Sometimes I might want a pair of scissors in my office on the first floor as well as 1 in the kitchen for kitchen shears and another 1 in the kitchen that is for cutting other things besides food. I also like to have a first aid kit on every floor and keep multiple items where I use them. For instance, I put duplicate kitchen spices, utensils, and gadgets in the basement kitchen. The basement kitchen is used mostly for making snacks or lunches when kids are in the media, gaming, or playroom. The basement kitchen is also sometimes for big events or holidays or when there are multiple cooks in the house.

It always got on my nerves that my grandpa kept his tools on the kitchen divider. Now that I'm a homeowner, I totally get it. My drill, flathead screwdriver, and Phillip's screwdriver permanently live on top of the china cabinet, and some mounting hardware lives in a kitchen drawer. When you have to go out to the garage to get tools, those 5 minute projects get put off.

The problem with storing the containers with the lids on is that they aren’t dry when they come out of the dishwasher. 😢 Also? Those aren’t Tupperware! As a former Tupperware rep, I am kind of offended at the “Kleenexing” of storage containers. 😂 Tissues aren’t Kleenex. Copies aren’t Xeroxes. And searching isn’t Googling! 😂 I know, I know. I worked the front desk at a hotel in college and was taught how to fold fitted sheets in angry Spanish. Your explanation made about as much sense to me as the Spanish tutorial but I confirm it is correct. At home I hang the first tucked corners onto a door knob while I tuck the others then lay the sheet on the bed to make the square. I promise it is not as complicated as it sounds.

I loved the mason jar hacks. I'll have to save my next emptied salt container. I will probably be using the new pouring and shaking jars in my craft room. Thanks for all the great ideas. And thanks for doing it economically. I can't spend all that money to make everything perfect. Keeping it fresh is my main concern. I have a laundry hack for you. Keep salt in the laundry room and use a good palmful the next time you wash a new, deeply pigmented item. It helps set the dye. No more running of colors in future washes.

    • @CarlaQuattlebaum
      @CarlaQuattlebaum Před 3 měsíci +1

@@DawnDavidson Yes, the dried Parmesan cheese lid sounds handy, but I can't use that stuff anymore, not since I've known how good REAL Parmesan cheese is. I did find a handy Dollar Tree item, recently. It's a Parmesan cheese shaker. I got it to use as a vase for the flowers my grandkids like to pick. I had a tiny Mason jar mug that's supposed to be a salt shaker. It was pretty good as a little vase, but the stems of the flowers my grandkids pick are sometimes too thick for the holes in the salt shaker's lid. Had to upgrade to the Parmesan cheese shaker. I loved having a lid with holes because they keep the flowers upright in their own spot instead of leaning like they would in a container with no lid. I think I got the idea seeing some CZcamsr (no doubt) doing flower arranging with some type of round grid over the vase to keep the flowers upright.

re labels: Even if you are literally staring at something you could spend a good 3 seconds trying to remember the name for it, you don't have to with a label it's right there. Sometimes, we forget what we were doing in the first place when we open a cabinet and when we scan labels it can trigger the 'oh right', even if you can clearly see what's inside it. I've also found for my adhd it's helpful for not getting sidetracked, too if I end up looking in something 'just in case' because it's not labelled cos I thought it being see through would prevent that.

It’s nice and it’s homey and it looks like you don’t have to be afraid to live in it. A lot of influencers homes are beautiful, but they look like you don’t dare sit down on the furniture or use the kitchen you’re amazing.

    hey there!
Thank you for your energy and the straightforward hacks that don't go with too much chit-chat at the same time. I still have a long way to go in terms of organization. However, with you as my digital backup, I will get there, day by day a little bit more.

When my kids began wanting to dress themselves, I had a drawer with complete outfits folded together. The shirt folded over the pants, underwear and socks so they could pick a complete outfit easily. A plus for mommy- the outfit coordinated!

I’m so glad people are finally starting to talk about wet/dry vacs. I’ve been raving about mine for 2+ years. It’s is my #1 cleaning product that I recommend to everyone who had children or pets (or just loves a clean house). It was a more pricy investment, but 100% worth it. I got the Tineco S5 and I use mine at least 3 times a week, sometimes daily. With my 3 dogs (one of which is a senior and has accidents), it is just a must. I love the self cleaning feature and cleaning the dog hair out of it is not difficult (of course I don’t have any super shedders).

I got a Tineco, too, about 3 months ago! I would not trade for it! It also came with a Tineco small hand vacuum with two speeds. I used it the other day to clean up rice that was spilled on the cabinet. It made it so much easier!

I never understood decanting. If you are trying to be a minimalist, you are wasting money. Plus, nowadays there seems to be recalls on all types of grocery items at an alarming rate. If you get rid of the container, how can you check barcodes, or batch numbers to see if something is safe to consume?

Cut out the date. Tape it on. It saves space and makes the space or organized. I decant anything that moths or weevils could eat that I keep longer than a week after the Year of the Rice Weevils. Huge amounts of the rive production from a particular country was infested with invisible weevil eggs one year. When they hatched, they got into everything. Took weeks to eradicate them all. Now they would be trapped in their box of origin.

You could always tape them to the back/bottom. I can say I am not trying to be a minimalist and there is so much more storage when I have containers that fit the space well. The purchased boxes/containers never do

Decanting is good for things that have packaging that easily tairs like flour, bugs, and other critters can easily get into anything that has paper packaging. Last year I had literally opened a hot cocoa packet to find larvae in it and ended up throwing the rest of them out.

a hack for the laundry over the door bags, since they are waterproof and washable I actually use one in my husband's office of his recycling. He never takes down his soda cans and bottles from his office and it just stacks up. UGH I've tried a small recycling can but that didnt work for him. I saw your video about the over the door laundry bag and thought to use it over the door in his office since it would literally be within reach of his office chair. (Yes that lazy lol) buttttt it works! He uses the over the door bag AND remembers to take the full bag down for recycling day when it gets full.

Great towel roll...love that it stays closed. Another way to keep your nicely folded sheets together is to fold the 2 sheets and one pillow case and pile them together. Tuck the neat linen pile into the second pillow case wrap nicely and there you go. Same type of bundle.

I do envy the access to a really nice attic, and a really easy basement. In California in the older homes, we don’t have access to either one of those. If we do have an attic, it’s usually limited because of the space that’s up there. I might just be able to fit Christmas items. If it is something, I might use on occasion, it’s just so inconvenient to go up some tiny ladder that is pulled down that we installed. Whereas when we lived on the East Coast, we had steps to our attic and we could walk in the attic. Made it so much simpler.
Drawer space is also extremely limited, so I do have to use the top of my counters for storage of appliances; there’s just no room. I think it would be very much of a challenge to have a large place at this point because I can see becoming used to a lot of space, and a lot of “stuff“ so I’m grateful, but at the same time I need to find better ways to organize in the smaller spaces that we have in many of our older neighborhoods here in California. And maybe other parts of the country that I’m unfamiliar with.
Nevertheless, these are such wonderful, organizing tips! And I’ve used so many of them… Brilliant!
    Thank you!

lol when you said “you’re probably going to start sweating” at that fitted sheet part 😂 I used to hate fitted sheets but I do mine the same way. I use the back of the couch or the bed to lay everything down at that point and then fit everything together. Then it’s easier to fold and I’ve only cried about it for a minute instead of having to call my mom.
