9 HABITS TO A CLEANER HOME (that have completely changed my life)

  • I’ve found that adopting cleaning my house as sort of something I’m just always in the state of doing, it makes it SO MUCH MORE manageable and overall just helps me keep a house that’s tidier. If I let cleaning tasks build up and build up it becomes this big task to overcome but if I just do little things throughout the day it really just becomes simple habits to a cleaner home and truly makes cleaning feel so much easier and less daunting. Today I’m sharing the 9 habits I’ve adopted to a cleaner home.

    Something my mom taught me as a kid is you always clean up the counters, wipe them down, and wipe the stove down after you're done with the dishes. I've always done it, it only takes an extra 5 minutes, and it helps things seem so much cleaner. It's not even something I think about either, it's just part of doing the dishes.

    Oh yes. Agree with every single one...especially pairing habits together. I get some washing into the machine whilst the dogs go out for their first play each morning (around 5am). I empty the dishwasher whilst my coffee brews. I do any dinner prep whilst I make the school/work lunches. By 7am my load of laundry for the day is done, the dishwasher is ready for the dishes and breakfast, lunch and dinner's ready to roll.

    I let the dog out a quick sec and grind my beans, get my Bunn brewing in my gown and THEN make the bed & shower - I come out like 'Wow?' 'See that bed?' Somebody - Already made it for Me. 'Hey?' 'Smell that?' Somebody - Already got my coffee for Me too! It's my 1st 'little acts of loving myself' in the morning. I used to be a morning person, but with the years, I'm less. Except. for this. Get's me all energized to move forward with the day. Thanks Me! Then I sit out in the fresh air with the dog again for at least 15 min to hear the birds singing. He loves a minute to lay in the damp grass. Cool air on my face + Hot coffee in my fav mug = Paradise. Then, 'ladies & gentlemen, start your engines!!' Lol. XoXoX.

    And the best thing about your video is teaching your son very good habits about cleaning that will go with him throughout his lifetime. I did when my son was young and at home. I told him I would not always be around, he may be a bachelor all his life, or marry someone who had absolutely no interest in keeping a house clean. My son is now 34 and does all those things I taught him. Oh, and when he got old enough, I taught him about the laundry, meal prep, and household finances. It is just good sense that our sons learn to manage a household, too! Keep up the great work!

There are barely dishes by the time I'm ready to eat - *this is life changing.* Leaving the sink clean before bed is something I go from my mom, she's Latin, it's the custom to avoid pests in Latin America but it's also so practical. I recently watched a video by Jordan Page, where she was showing a video of her kids getting breakfast and making their lunch for the day. (I think it was a year ago at least) One thing I noticed was that every time a child (all ages) got out something, they immediately put it back when they were finished. It was consistent with all the children, so you know they had to be trained and trained. Repetition keeps habits going because you end up doing things without even thinking about it.

    My MIL, not an insane housekeeper (she has her messes, too) is very much of the mind of cleaning as you go with cooking, and she taught me that early as we started cooking together way back (we've been doing this for over 30 years). I told her at the beginning that I was impressed by what a hard worker she was to be instantly washing that bowl that she just used - she said: "Actually, I'm lazy, and don't want to come back and have dishes later." I guess everyone sees it as they do. But it made a big, big impression on me. I still do it to this day.

    The root problem for cluttered surfaces many times is that those things don't have a permanent home. Another is that the place they go to is full. Your" tomorrow self" will love ❤️ you if you find a permanent home for things that you pick up or do a QUICK-right-now declutter or organization of its " home" so you have space to put it away.

    Very glad to have found this channel and have shared it with many friends. I’ve taken to talking about Kallie like she is a close dear friend which gets on my teenagers’ nerves haha. “My friend Kallie says so and so.” Recently, I’ve been announcing “loudly” daily the number of days with “no dirty sink.” My youngest son commented that he likes the change and my husband with no demands from me has begun a new habit of putting dirty dishes into the dishwasher as he uses them. INTO THE DISHWASHER!!!!! We’ve been married 23 years and this is new … I think just the announcement of progress and how much more I love living in a neat and tidy home has been way more effective than the nagging, cajoling, angry and shaming meltdowns I’ve had in the past. I’m hoping it will continue! Thank you friend Kallie!!

    Thank you Kallie!! I absolutely love these types of videos. You are the queen of them. Your inspiration and examples makes it so much easier to see how it can work for the rest of us. Number 3 habit is GREAT! I am going to try and clean flat surfaces at least twice a day. I can say that I have already adopted Habit Number 5. It is a game changer to never go to sleep with dirty dishes in the sink. Waking up to a clean sink makes your day start more positively. You don’t have to wonder “what is that smell? Oh, it was last night’s dinner that dried on the plate.” Since becoming a subscriber, I keep a much tidier home. Your sense of humor kills me. 🤣 “A body in motion tends to stay in motion.” Just keep moving and get it done. Don’t leave one room without taking something from that room to the next. I completely agree on the clean kitchen! I don't go to bed until the food is put away, the kitchen is empty, and the dishwasher is started (if there are enough dishes). And I don't let things sit overnight to "soak" anymore. I just go ahead and wash them right then so I am helping my future self. It seriously makes the morning SO much better because I'm not greeted with something that I really won't look forward to doing. I also pick up the living room and my 2 year old daughter has seen me create this habit over the past month and she will pick up her toys and books and put them away before we go to bed.

    I think this is great that it works for you! Personally, the more I have to do at once, the more I actually get done. My youngest is 5 and both of my kids do a lot around the house. They aren't perfect, but they do a lot of the smaller jobs that make it less stressful for me. They deal with their own laundry (carry to and from laundry room, fold, sort, hang, etc and all I do is manage the machines), they clean off their place at the table and chair after each meal. Once a week, they each have a day sweeping the house, cleaning their bathroom (literally, my 5 year old just wipes a sponge on all the surfaces), they take out their own trash from their room/ bathroom, dust and vacuum their own rooms. So, once a week, I go behind them and do a deeper clean, but their isn't much to clean/ disinfect by the time I get to it. I spend 3 days a week cleaning our 3kSF house and I only spend about 5 hours each day actually cleaning. I also do meal prepping 1 day and spend 1 day organizing/decluttering and 1 day is dedicated solely to doing my homework for school. The other is family/worship 😉

    These are great! I definitely have found that minimising clutter in the first place is really helpful too. When I go to put something down on a surface, I try to think "hey wait, why am I putting this here when I could put it in its home?" And usually the answer is because its home is far away (so put it in a basket to take downstairs) or I'm lazy (just put it away!!) Or it doesn't have a home (find/make a home for it) and only if I really need it imminently is it allowed to actually go on the surface. But good luck getting husbands and children on board too!!!

      I like a bit of clutter, it's a home not a museum. Helps visitors to feel relaxed. Besides, some of the clutter could be memories you like to see, or parts of an ongoing project. If you are a crafter, you're always surrounded by "stuff" you can't hide away in cupboards or tidy away on shelves.

    • @stacey738
      @stacey738 Před 3 lety +1

      @@eccentricgran7340 I am a crafter and agree! I find my home goes through 'messy' and 'tidy' phases like waves. It'll be a bit of a mess because I'm in the middle of a project or organising something, but then tidy the next week when the project is over or my task is done. I think tidy all the time is just impossible and an unrealistic standard to achive. Or you just never *do* anything in your home, but then what's the fun in that!
