  • As a new denture wearer, you might be shocked to find that your immediate dentures are hurting after extractions. It feels wrong but it's actually quite normal. The dentures will dig into your cheeks as your gums shrink and you experience the first stages of bone loss. YES. Dentures can be painful. But they shouldn't always be painful.

    Can’t get them in, too much pain, then can’t take them out too much pain. But once they are in they’re fine. Then I have to take them out again, so it’s a viscous painful circle.

      I'm the same.
      I had a lot of missing teeth, and the ones I have were loose. So getting a good mold was very hard. I have a good dentist, I am blessed in that. Yet my immediate dentures have been.....A PAIN!!!!
      😄Soooo, I'm 3 weeks in. My tops fit a few days in. My bottoms no.
      Went to my next appointment. Bottoms were fitted good, tops, not so much.
      So it went from tops fit, bottoms didn't to bottoms fit tops didn't.
      Now. I have 2 bone chips giving me pain. I swear, it feels like wth. But I am comforted by these videos, cuz I know it's gonna take time. I get my soft reline soon. I am hopeful I can finally wear them more. Right now I only wear them to bed, because I can't talk, eat or drink with them in, but I don't want to not wear them at all.
      Sorry I ranted. I wish you all the best. You are not alone. 😁

Question: Not sure though if I should leave my teeth in or out at night. And swishing with water and peroxide ok? Any help is appreciated. Just keep smiling😁

    I am on day 3 of my newly-installed complete upper plate. Had 12 extractions done, and my biggest annoyances at this point are the constantly sore gums, sharp pain when I re-insert the denture after cleaning it, the right side of the plate not aligning with the underlying gum structure, and my complete loss of appetite. I haven't eaten anything for over 3 days, the desire just isn't there. I don't totally regret having undergone this procedure, but I sometimes become somewhat frustrated & I wish to GOD that the healing phase could be faster!!

    I took my dentures out to eat and used them to look nicer...UNTIL I managed to hurt my gums with very painful sores. After salt water and peroxide mouthwash and cloves they felt a bit better and THEN I realized how much dentures protect those naked gums between natural teeth. So I finally broke them in for all day use. It's very important to clean the whole mouth after eating with SOFT brushes. Thank you, God, for the sore gums.....maybe He was running out of patience as was my family.

    I got upper dentures and a bottom partial in 2018 and until this day they are painful. I just learned that I have lost a lot of bone on my upper section of my gums. I need new dentures, but implants. I have become a recluse. I stay home and go out only for dr appointments. I endure the dentures for that and only that. I do all my shopping online. My husband does the rest. I stay home 24/7. I need implants but they are expensive, so I will continue to be isolated, or out of public view.

    My dentist is fitting me for my temporary dentures, after my swelling from first set of extractions and before my front teeth are removed. She said it will be uncomfortable for the year I will have them, but it's better to do it this way. I'm terrified. Not of the pain, but the bone loss.
    I also have been suffering with exposed jawbone since all my back teeth were removed. The oral surgeon shaved it down as much as he could, then said that we have to hope the gum grows over the exposed bone. Very painful. With my artificial sweeteners allergies, I dealt with an extreme amount of pain for almost 2 weeks. I contacted my used to be dentist, the VA is funny that way, you don't get both, but my previous dentist helped anyway. He contacted the oral surgeon and told him what numbing prescription that would work for me. Did I add the oral surgeon only gave me 3 days worth of pain killers? Although I have refused pain killers in the past, the exposed jawbone hurts way more than dry sockets I've had, that I refused pain killers for. Even after he shaved the jawbone material, no pain killers were given. Told me to use Tylenol, and anti-inflammatories. Of course that didn't help at all. At least my previous dentist went above and beyond to help me out, which finally gave me enough relief to actually sleep. Which is the most important thing when it comes to healing.

    • @kalinjax
      @kalinjax  Před 2 lety

      Oh man I’m sorry. The VA is the worst. My dad ended up going through a civilian dentist to get his because the VA is a mess. They should definitely give you adequate pain medication for something like that.

    I had my last 19 teeth extracted March 14th this year. I didn’t get my dentures until two days ago, June 29th!!
    I had issues with the my bottom front gums following the extractions. Since the dentist only worked one day a week, when he actually came in. Due to his schedule, I kept getting pushed back because my denturist wanted to make sure there wasn’t something wrong with my gums. Due to the dentist, he added at least three extra weeks to the time line. My denturist added an additional two weeks because he wouldn’t see me until the week after he got the wax set & when I got the set I have now!! Make sure you get an actual time line & get your appointments scheduled the day of your consultation in case your dentist has pre planned days off, vacations, etc. They’ll try to tell you it’s not a problem to schedule them as you go, had I done that, I would’ve avoided the week they were both off for spring break, previous appts scheduled, etc. I basically lived like a hermit three and a half months!!

The only thing I’ve been enjoying is the apple sauce and and my scrambled eggs in the morning with a little ketchup (I do that because I eat them every morning 2-3 times a day and I use the ketchup to change up the flavor a little. A good dentist expects you to be in for multiple adjustments. When the denture is out you can see the sore spots, they're red. The dentist puts a paste on them and puts the denture back in. The paste adheres to the spot on the denture so they know where to adjust the fit. In a few days you may need more adjustment in that spot or somewhere else. It's a process, and can't be avoided.

I haven’t worn my dentures in a week because I am dealing with a lot of bone shards. It feels like razors scraping on top and bottom. My general practitioner prescribed meds for me. They are just taking the edge off. I also have an issue with having them in my mouth. My mouth feels completely full of teeth. Sometimes I have felt when I was stuffy that I can’t breathe. Is that a normal reaction. I’m grateful I chose 4 on. He told me my last visit that the roof of my mouth and underneath my tongue will be gone. I think that will help. You are just beautiful. Top plate fits like a glove, I don’t even know it’s there.
    Bottom is just to tight all over!!
    I don’t know what to do at this point . I don’t even think I’m swollen so there’s no need for them to be so painful..

    Thanks for your videos gurl! I'm in week 3 of full mouth extractions and immediate dentures. I have a few dry sockets that my dentist is aware of. He did give me an adjustment last week but ignored the fact that I have bone shards (or whatever they're called). I'm not in much pain anymore but trying to get used to my new teeth has been difficult. Should I be concerned about the bone shards??? Honestly, my dentist is a prick and I'd rather not see him ever again, but I know that that's impossible. Anyone have any suggestions or recommendations for dry sockets and tooth spurs? Do I need to have oral surgery to get them removed asap or should I wait?

I have at least a month or two of this until I can get enough money for my dentures, and I’m already wasting away 😂

      Do you know what brand of teeth they are using? Ivoclar Phonares teeth comes with a smile design kit. There’s a little tool that measures your nose and determine the size of teeth. From there, you can go with a mature look, neutral, or youthful. You can even mix and match those molds to come up with something unique to you, which is what the techs did when designing my smile. Find my email in the description box and send me a pic. I’ll try to help!

    At the age of 80 my mother finally got full dentures, which I knew nothing about technically my eldest sister took her to the dentist who is my first cousin and they agree to the cheapest set of dentures upper and lower dentures $700 I just scratch my head anyways and I’m telling my mom I got her all the supplies like that he’s of the container on the tablets to clean until I know how to clean them blah blah blah and I knew nothing about re-lining because she kept on saying they don’t fit in the teeth were so damn small. Guess what my dentist my 1st cousin doesn’t do dentures and or really he sent it out to the lab which he doesn’t mark up OK that’s cool anyway and my mom got the discount so that’s $700 for my mom his aunt pissed me off the nudist I want to take her to my alumni school who do dentures. Of course my mother calls do not tell Kerry please don’t tell Kerry don’t make a big fuss but I still see him I’m doing my cleaning come June 2022 I am in a dilemma do I see him or Dr Steve…

    • @kalinjax
      @kalinjax  Před 2 lety +2

      I know it seems like your cousin is the obvious choice but if he isn’t used to doing dentures routinely, I’d see someone who is. If my husband started doing dentures this year I’d be like “you got this boo! But I’m gonna go see this other dentist until you get more experience.” It is what it is. Dentistry isn’t just a skill, it’s an art. Some have it, some don’t.
