  • Bone loss occurs when teeth are removed. But it can also occur due to disease and infection. In this video, I talk about my experience with bone loss, show a comparison between my immediate denture and permanent denture, as well as some progress pictures on how my dentures changed the shape of my face.

      How likely is it that we would find dentists that would leave those tooth roots in?
      I am just about ready to let my teeth finish breaking off, and get some do it yourself dentures, reline them myself, etc. so that I can keep my roots. Because I don’t want to lose that bone. I’d rather have a dentist cleanly file them off, etc. so it can be healthy/healthier. But I’m wondering if a dentist would just scoff at that idea? Or is it a common thing that dentists might do?

      Google low income dental care for adults. The state you live and the town you live. There will be list of dentists you pay according to your income. So they can pull your teeth. Leaving the infection untreated. Can be life threatening. Please get those teeth pulled. You can get dentures online. The set I am going to get from Etsy is $200. That is a lot of money. But there are ways to figure that out later.Your life is not replaceable. Teeth can be real be replaced. You are not A loser. You don’t have a lot of money. I don’t either. I hope you feel better soon.

    Great. Great video Kalinjax! YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY AN EXPERT xx🥰💐👏🏻💯
    1- Yes, absolutely, studies have shown that within 3 months of extraction, bone loss is up to 50% of the total bone loss that occurs after extraction. This becomes more and more noticeable as the denture becomes more loose and the more denture "Glue" has to be used
    2- Immediately after surgery, the swelling makes the denture "stuck", but then, they don't fit anymore as the swelling subsides. That's why a reline is necessary within 2-3 weeks.
    3-Within a couple of years, the dentures become way too big and need to be replaced within one year or even earlier if the shrinking is important.
    4-Once the Denture is converted or replaced by implant supported bridge, you're absolutely right that space has to be present between the bridge and the gum so that you can use waterpik to clean. if you don't have space, your bridge design is not ideal, and has to be re-adjusted
    5- Absolutely, absolutely right: you definitely experience facial loss of volume when you switch from denture to implant bridge, because the denture flanges or "borders" act as a facial filler because it gives support to the cheeks and lips. Once this is converted to implant bridge, the bridge is much smaller and does not have the Flanges that support the face, so the face looks a little gaunt if the person is thin to begin with.... Over-denture might solve the problem for thin people, and it's a trade-off, because over-denture is removable. Some patients are not ok with a removable denture, even for a day. Others are comfortable with the process.
    6- The lower bone loss is usually more important than the upper bone. That's why the right treatment at the right time is PARAMOUNT!!!!
    7-Sometimes, very few residual teeth are left in the mouth and sometimes they need to be removed in the context of implant rehabilitation, but exactly right, they should not be removed before because they cause bone loss
    Bravo Kalinjax!! You are incredible xx🥰💐👏🏻💯

    You have no idea how much your videos have helped me. It will be two weeks Monday since my full mouth extractions and I am wearing my temp dentures. The top no problem, the bottom is a different story all together. I can wear the bottom denture, but they are bulky, and it is hard to talk with them in, so if I know that I am going to be talking more then I will take them out. I am now dealing with the phycological stage of having my teeth removed. I had no choice, because over the past several years I have had major tooth decay, it started in the back, then it started moving to my front teeth, I could smile but I learned how to smile without showing all of my teeth. I will tell you more about how I was blessed to have the work do0ne so far that I needed. I could have never afforded it myself, that is where the greatest part of my story comes in. I will share later on. I go in next week to have my stitches removed and then hopefully I will get a realign sooner rather than later. I am healing really well, and my dentist has said that I could possibly get my permanent denture in a few months depending on the healing. I am getting discouraged though about the bottom set. I just want to thank you for sharing your story and for passing on the great info, you are giving so many of us hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel. We are all in this together!

    I just found you on CZcams! My teeth were pulled last December. I am still struggling with my dentures! My bottom denture is a permanent one, but my top intermediate denture was turned into a permanent one! I feel like I have so much plastic in my mouth it is difficult for me to eat! When the denture’s they but in after my extractions felt natural and I had no trouble eating once the swelling got better. I could taste food! I can’t taste food with the way my top denture was changed. I have gone back to the dentist repeatedly over the past year trying to get comfortable with my dentures! I am at a loss on what to do now! Thank you for your videos! Hearing about your experience is helping me!

    Love your videos. I am going thru the all-on-four stage as nothing was keeping the lower ones in (tried all kinds of adhesive). Please let your viewers know that sometimes you may not be a candidate for the these - fixed or snap on. Over the years with all the bone loss and trying to preserve my teeth (had periodontal disease for the longest time until it finally was getting better), when I finally decided to get dentures, I know cannot get the upper done (all-on-four). They did the lower ones (6 implants) but will need to stay with regular dentures for the upper. Will get the permanent uppers in a few months, and the Zirconia for replacing the lower fixed ones as they are temps until the implants heal (4-6 months). Maybe I waited too long to finally get dentures. Just sometimes its better not to wait too long.

    I really appreciate all the information on your channel, that you deliver with such kindness, compassion and love. It really reflects what a lovely person you are, and all the pain and suffering that you (and all of us who have lived with dental suffering for years) have been through. I don't know how old your mom is, but it seems most people aren't aware that Medicare/Medicaid covers dentures (new set every few years unless damaged in which case they will replace before), extractions, bone grafts etc. I think it would be a great topic for a video as most insurance providers or the government DO NOT make this information readily available. I think that if people are younger but are low income and qualify for food stamps, they are also eligible for medical/dental benefits.

      Welcome back! Yeah, My molars were removed when I was 15 and the bone loss was very prominent, even back then. All of my teeth started to sort of fall in, due to the space let from the missing molars. If they can save those roots, that's the best bet. I believe a partial can even be made to go over them so there's something to keep the rest of your teeth from becoming mobile. Good luck!

    After extracting mine a yr ago, went with 4 mini-implants (and a reline) my dentist told me not to use Polident (those alka-seltzer like deals) anymore as it will start eating/etching away at the acrylic, to just use when soaking overnite, white vinegar an water and wash 'em in dish soap when cleaning; so they willl keep that polished look. You were lucky enough to have the bone structure for the larger implants and a good dentist who cared about how it all worked out for you. Pertinent posts good job.

      Yes, I was also given the same info. Dish detergent really does keep them nice and clean and it’s not abrasive. The thing about the all-on-4 is that they are placed at an angle, rather than straight in, so even those with heavy bone loss would benefit. Still crazy expensive, unfortunately. Hopefully we will see the day that it is covered under insurance. Thanks for watching, Sam!

    I started my Journey May 31st of this year. Just as you said in that 2nd week, immediately I needed my immediate dentures adjusted. They remade the top ones cuz it was really big to a point that my mouth was unable to close. My mouth is small so when they took the impressions before my extractions the tops were the most difficult to get. They tried 4 times. My bottoms got the soft liner when my top immediate dentures were being remade. It’s only been two weeks since that happened and my bottoms already don’t fit. Like they are digging into my cheeks and the gum area under my tongue and I can’t seal them to my gums without pain or them popping up. So I wear them unsealed and take them out when I eat and give myself a day or two of not wearing them so I don’t develop bad sores. I go back Aug. 28th for my implants as I will be wearing snap ins on the bottoms and comfi-lytes on the top as my permanent situation. I would have loved to get permanents or snap ins for both top and bottoms, but this is what I can afford now. So hopefully in the future that will change and I can have exactly what I want. Still the confidence I have gained back is worth it!

If you can help it , keep your own teeth, life will never be the same without them! I had mine taken out at 28 due to very similar story to yours except bulimia brought the damage on. I really wish I'd tried to save as many as possible, it's been sheer misery. That’s why I would rather save or try to get implants instead of dentures, I know that’s not always a option or what so ppl want to do, the sad part is the cost of implants is not “Affordable” no matter what they say, it’s so overpriced. The time and cost of having them reclined and the feeling of something in the roof of your mouth and bone loss. The benefits of implants of bone growth is definitely a plus, I just don’t understand why they don’t put some type of artificial track or something to fill that space from were the root and bone meets to help promote bone growth in that area when they pull all your teeth especially when you are getting dentures. I just don’t understand why they don’t do that even when you have any extractions. Thank you for sharing.

    I got my dentures back in 2018 and I went in knowing nothing! I paid $8000 for mine and they were what you call temporary but I was told these were permanent and exactly what you said would happen is what did happen to me! They hurt me so bad, even after my gums healed I couldn't eat with them - I went back several times had to get them realigned and they are still too big and my bone loss on the bottom has left me unable to wear my bottom teeth. I was never able to eat with them, my face has completely changed, I just sit and cry all the time because I'm not myself. I went through a divorce after 21 years and I'm afraid to even meet anyone new- I can't eat out in public because no way am I taking my teeth out in a restaurant and how could I ever explain to someone that I can't go out to lunch or dinner... My quality of life is ruined, I've become completely isolated. Your teeth look beautiful on you, I would never know that you have dentures. Because of the way they fit (or DON'T FIT) My speech is messed up, the glue dries out my mouth, and I wish I never got these things... My mouth is really small and it's exactly as you said - feels like a hockey puck in my mouth. Being on my own I can't afford to get implants or even a new pair of regular dentures. Maybe in the future they won't be so expensive, hahaha ( yeah, right!) But thank you so much for your videos- I just love you- you've helped me realize I'm not the only one with these problems - It sounds like your mom and I have a lot in common. I live alone so I usually just don't wear them ( I have to avoid mirrors when I don't have them in! Talk about hideous) Anyway, thanks again and keep making videos!

    I'm about to start my denture journey and I'm truly terrified
    I had to take Bisphosphonates due to a stage 4 lung disease and my teeth have disintegrated due to steroids.
    I am having 7 teeth removed on 17th November 2023. I always have massive roots on my teeth due to my calcium rich diet.
    I am very sick with my lung disease anyway and I also have insulin dependant diabetes due to steroids too. I'm really worried that I won't be able to eat properly which is really, really bad in view of my diabetes. I am having acrylic partial dentures top and bottom. I am really, really worried about bone loss and bone necrosis. My cats hassle me too btw

    I had bone graft because of the bone loss. I did a lot of research before I decided to do it. The dentist put two bone grafts on each side of the upper and two on the bottom front teeth. I didn't want to get that sunken in look as I age. Yes it was 350 for each bone graft, no I'm not getting implants, I have a partial on the bottom, and full denture on top.

    What are hybrids? I’m trying to make a case for medical necessity implant supported upper denture. I have autoimmune disorder- psoriatic arthritis (triggered most likely after chemo in 2012) and it would appear that my crazy issues with mouth sores I thought from medication I take for the inflammatory arthritis. But I had a crazy idea that perhaps it’s “oral psoriasis” and I googled it on whim. It’s actually a THING!? So Rheumatologist is already on board with medical necessity due to me having dysphasia (EoE), Sjorgen’s and just a miserable world in there behind my lips! So I’m thinking that to keep the roof of my mouth unencumbered, my gums and tongue sores un-aggravated by removeable dentures and to avoid the bacteria accumulation in the nooks & crannies due to no saliva it would see that an implant supporteddenture would be good but I really don’t know! I’m only just exploring this because I have a big see thru hole in my front gum over my 6 tooth bridge. I’m disabled, on soc sec disability and almost 62, and the dental insurance they gave us Medicare folks is an insult. A root canal with crown would be $1,169. WITH insurance! Anyhow here I am utterly lost but also so grateful to you for doing this channel with such candor! You are gorgeous. Thank you for the support & information you provide. ❤️

    Hello - just discovered you today and watching all your helpful videos.
    I am curious if you were able to have all on 4 right away instead of your 2 sets of removable dentures (temp/perm) would your face look different? More bone preserved? I am curious why dentists can't put in implant like structures to preseve bone for people can't afford the all on 4 right away, so they have to get removable dentures too but then when they have money for all on 4 they have the implants that preserved the bone loss... ?

    • @kalinjax
      @kalinjax  Před 2 lety +1

      I think the bulk of the cost is the implants, themselves. I won my implants in a contest two years after I became a denture wearer but if I did have the money, I probably would have opted for the implants up front. And I’m not saying that would have been the best decision… I just thought that implants were way better than dentures…. And they are, in my opinion. But I feel like I allowed everything to heal long enough that I never had issues with the implants. I was able to quit smoking and I’m sure whatever caused my teeth to rot away in the first place was gone by the time I had implants. I just think my mouth was in a much healthier state after going the denture route, first.

    So you have implants now? You didn't stay with the dentures? Or did you get implants that dentures snapped onto? My bone loss is so bad that I have no ridge at all at the bottom. I've had dentures for years. I don't understand how my mom had her teeth pulled at 14 and had just dentures and she had good bone in her mouth and died with the original set of dentures at 81 years old. My problem is I have bad chemical sensitives and I react badly to all drugs and worry I cannot have bone graft surgery and what happens when I have no bone left and can't eat? My face has shrunk a lot. I've had mine for about 30 years. It worries me a lot. They also told me about bone grafting and since I react to everything with medicine I worry about any surgery not being able to take anything. I had a dentist tell me when I first got my set almost 30 years ago, that I had the bone loss of a 70 yr old and now look how many years later. I worry about trouble swallowing. My dentures have a thinner ridge than the ones you showed, my bone is flat on the bottom of my mouth, there is no ridge now. Also, if there was a way to have bone grafting, they told me it would be a year before I could have anything but liquid. I have reactive hypoglycemia and have to eat often and certain foods. I have allergies to a lot, so stick to foods that agree. I couldn't go a year without food like they told me I would have to do.

      Years ago, a dentist put crowns on my front bottom teeth. He built them up high presumably for a better bite. Unfortunately that caused too much "force" on these teeth and they became unstable. I still had 5 salvageable teeth on the bottom but I thought I'll just get 4 implants and a snap on denture and be done with it all. So sorry/huge regret. Wish I had got 3 or 4 individual implants and then possibly bridged those to the other teeth. Save whatever you can and work with that. It changes the way you chew, the way your faces ages. It's awful.
      If you're terrified for implants like I was, have them put you to sleep.

    • @kalinjax
      @kalinjax  Před 6 měsíci

      Great question. Yes, that’s traditionally the popular way. A lot of benefits in going that route, particularly, allowing your gums to heal and get a better fit. But for those who do not want to or can’t go without teeth, immediate dentures are an option but cause significantly more problems than waiting for the gums to be healed before fitting.
