Having my teeth removed is one of the best decisions I've made. I was scared at first but when I was able to eat ice cream , drink hot / cold and smile big it made it all worth it.

Having dentures... Don't it fall off sometimes? I know my mom and dad has some.. upper and lower. But they are 80+ years old... is there a new way that they don't fall off now? Are they attached somewhere in your mouth? Thanks

Same!! I got dentures at 30, 35 now. Never have regretted it. I’m not afraid to smile big, I can eat, drink just about anything (except I miss eating dill pickles by biting out the inside first lol). I do need to get my dentures remade , as I still have my original dentures (thanks, COVID!!). But I still have zero regret, never had any. I had a beautiful perfect smile at one time (before the enamel got completely destroyed from pregnancies), and I miss that… but that smile was long gone by the time I got dentures. Relearning to talk and eat was a process though, I’ll say that!!

@crush it they should use fixodent or poligrip. I prefer fixodent! Lol it holds better and I'm 42. Most seniors don't like using it bc it's really snuggled onto the gum but to release them at night I just gargle with hot water. Hot as I can stand it for easy release. I work with seniors anyways so it's fun to let them know my process.
Just remember for an elderly person put as little as possible onto the denture plates. Hopes this helps! 🙏

I am 10 days into my denture journey. I am still in the "regret" phase. I have been fighting gum disease for over 25 years, more then 5 gum surgeries (actually I lost count) trying to save my teeth. I have lost the battle, and failed. I hate them. I hate them with every fiber of my being. I won't even let my wife see me without them in, I am so embarrassed and ashamed at what I have come to. I have shed tears almost everyday since. I was in tears this morning putting in my bottom dentures, the pain takes several minutes to subside. My top ones are loose, so not much pain, but very uncomfortable. I have 4 to 6 months before the implants are healed for the snap-in's to work. I have lost 10 pounds since because its so difficult to eat, never mind even talking. I can't imagine this getting better, but every video says it will happen. I don't know anyone else with dentures that I can confide in, so I watch as many videos as I can, and still feel depressed after watching. Right now I wish I could go back in time, and tell myself NOT to do it, and take your chances.

As I just told another comment but yours I even relate to even more I understand I understand I understand it is so much bigger than anyone usually fully admits because there's this oh I'm strong I can take the pain or it shouldn't be affecting me psychologically this much but I have been in psychological agony as well as physical and so far deeply regret the choice because I mostly did it cuz I didn't want to continue to put massive amounts of money into the teeth in my insurance pays for a full set of dentures every 5 years so I just said okay let's do it but oh my God it literally has sent me back and I'm in the theater and the arts and the teaching profession and after the covid I was getting so close so close and happy to getting back to life as we all are and then this anyway if you need a comrade just someone to chat with ... I tend to be hugely over committed in terms of too many people in my life but I sure could use someone just in specifically to occasionally talk about this because otherwise I'm feeling very very alonr..
I have a huge wonderful group of friends and colleagues all over the country but the lonest comes from one not wanting to complain and why and call vanity call it what you will but I don't have my teeth and can't keep them in right now and so I simply don't want to be around people I actually couldn't be I hate to look at myself so much without these dentures and I have not yet once been able to put them in even slightly from the pain and the bone shards and on and on but anyway I'm not usually complainer and it sounds like you aren't either but when you use the words embarrassed and ashamed and tears oh my God I get it I get it I get it it really is an amputation is a complete life change and I guess I knew that but I didn't realize it with this be this overwhelming and frustrating so anyway I'm not quite sure if you can respond directly to me, but should you need or watch what could be a once a week check in with each other, vent, rage, share tips whatever I think only people who have going through this recent traumatic experience can really help no matter how many family members or friends or colleagues you have..
And what's especially challenging most of all for me is somehow not being able to without saying Express just how traumatic and horrific this is like a true amputation because then I get embarrassed because God we just came through covid what about the millions that died what about before ukrainians what about the people in tents living on the highways and on and on and on she gets to the point where you absolutely don't even want to tell people that you're not exactly in a good mood which is course is an understatement and I don't want to isolate from those I love again but so far that's what I've been doing .
Anyway I'm sure like me you have a very very busy life and I'm completely backlogged with all sorts of people I should communicate with but I really think all of us going through this needs some outlet so if you want to communicate I'm not sure I can leave my number here but text is always good for me 802-279-2399 my name is Jude

I could identify with a lot of what you're talking about, but I have to admit it's been so long now that I've kind of forgotten what it was like when I first got the procedure done.. I only know that I haven't had any pain for 7 years, no infections, no missing teeth, for 7 years I've been able to eat what I wanted, and for the last 7 years I've actually smiled, something I never did before with gray stained damaged teeth. All I can say is I will never regret my decision to have this done, it changed my life

@Mistyc Mc ana ... It's amazing technology for sure, and it's going to eventually find it's place for the removable practice. For me, and for now, I'm only interested in offering the dental profession a digital replacement denture that starts with the patients existing dentures.
Just a side note: I still encourage my Dentist to take advantage of the patients old dentures, when possible, as a starting point. Lots of information in a well worn denture. After mounting the old denture I usually need to open the bite slightly to regain lost vertical. Saves so much time, this way, over the 5 or 6 appointments needed with the conventional approach. We refer to this approach as the '3 Appointment Denture"
Keep it simple ... "less can be more" if that makes since.
Guess I'm getting to old to start over ... ha =)

I am 3 weeks into wearing my top denture, I experienced everything you talked about. It hurt so bad taking those things in and out because of my gums still being swollen and super sore, but I toughed it out and now it's a little bit easier than it was. I was ashamed to let my husband see me without my teeth but, after he did see me he said to me, " Honey you're still beautiful whether you have teeth or not," that gave me even more confidence and then my daughter saw me with them in and she cried and said "now that's the mama I remember! She told me and my son in law told me how good I looked and that I looked healthier." Oh, I can't leave this out my 2 1/2 yr old grandson said Grannie you're pretty! So that really boosted my spirits! So yeah It is frustrating at times eating or drinking but I know it will get better, so for people reading this comment hang in there it will get better day by day! A year. Nope! Try never getting rid of pain. Try having to always grind every bite your eat. Oh, scrambled eggs are OK. But I had not choice. My teeth were not getting any more cavities, but the bones under my teeth ached all the time, so I had not choice but to get dentures. I do have good memories of when my teeth were good. I never needed them straightened either. The esthetics of my teeth were perfect, it's just that my bones were so infected. I attribute much of that to dentists who had to save bad teeth at all costs. If I had not had root canals, I believe that a bridge or two here and there would have sufficed. I did have a really bad dentist when I was under 10 years old who put a needle into my mouth for novocaine who pushed that needle deep into my jaw bone. That dentist might be the one who caused me to have the root canal in my 20s. I'd give anything to be able to have a dentist who could give me implants that would work. I tried to be careful about the dentists I saw, but alas, they ruined my mouth. I can look like I have teeth, but I never get rid of the pain and there is no way under the sun that I can actually chew my food. Grind, grind, grind. I never can really go out to dinner. I go to be with family and friends and figure out something to look like I'm eating, but I do all my real eating ground up food at home. Sorry for the rant, it's just no fun of any kind.

It takes a while to adjust. I have been waring the same dentures for thirty years now. Since the adjustments I have not seen another dentist in all that time. I take them out to brush them and leave them in the rest of the time. My last girlfriend did not know I had them until I eventually told her. Mistake. Easy enough to avoid. She still sees a dentist regularly putting in new posts and crowns and such to the tune of tens of thousands of dollars per year. I can eat most things though small seeds are an issue. What is it worth to look good, eat what you want, and never again be in a dental chair? I can still recall the shock of loosing my teeth. It will always be a shock.

And I have wondered about this journey for me due to medical issues that I couldn’t control. And I remember one lady in particular and she used to hide her smile and when she told us she finally moved up the queue to get dentures we got to celebrate then we got to celebrate again when she felt confident smiling! It was amazing and wonderful! It was also such an honour to walk a bit of that journey with her and when I think, “oh dear I don’t know if can do this” (and in my case I don’t know what I’ll do), people like you and this lady…. I hated smiling because I hated how my teeth looked. I couldn't eat nuts, or anything too hot or too cold because everything hurt. The day I got my teeth pulled the pain was gone - I was sore but it wasn't the same. 2 weeks later I was eating Thanksgiving dinner with no pain in my mouth at all. Of course, this will be different for some, it all depends on that persons situation. Implants won't be for everyone as previous problems can lead to a weak jaw bone and from what i understand implants come with a higher level of maintenance, never mind the cost! Either way, it is what it is, I'll see what happens but I'm not worrying about it.

I wish I had found you a few months ago. I have had the worst time adjusting to getting dentures. I keep going back to get adjustments and it helps but this immediate set is so wonky and loose fitting. They told me I can’t get a reline until 3 months so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that will improve things. I truly appreciate you sharing your experience with honesty. I almost feel bad for saying this, but it’s nice knowing someone else has had such a bad experience getting adjusted…but look at you now! What a comeback story! You got this Tony. It's a bit rough in the beginning, but you'll either love or hate your dentures but just know, you can't change the fact that you got your teeth pulled, but you can change your dentures to how you want them so that you're able to eat, smile, laugh again. You'll find yourself saying, "this isn't as bad as I thought it would be" once you're all healed and able to do the things that you didn't think you would be able to do. Patience is the key. I've had my uppers for over 20 years. I just did bottoms on April 5th and I truly thought I'd hate it... but man... I love them. I can eat anything and everything with no problems and I have a technique that keeps them in all day with even eating throughout the day. And these aren't even my perms... but I'm prepared for my perms now that I know what I'm doing. :)

I was supposed to get 2 pulled today but the infection was so bad the novacaine wouldn't work. It's criminal how expensive dental work is in the US and how little insurance covers. Just wanted to say your teeth look really nice and they give you a beautiful smile.
I never had bad teeth just so stressed all the time I clamp my teeth too much and loosened enough from grinding that although they still look ok it's getting harder to eat. I've hesitated and not done anything for fear of getting teeth that don't look natural. Yours have a soft natural look and everything isn't shaped identical. Thanks for putting out this video and when you speak you talk my language, you say it how it is. People who are able to communicate like you are far and few between. I could talk to you for hours.

Hi! If your teeth look fine, and the only issue you have is that they are loose, I can give you a solution. Get a bottle of 3% hydrogen peroxide, brush your teeth for 2 minutes, with a capful. Then brush your teeth for 2 minutes with lots of water, brush the gums, and the roof of your mouth. Do it morning, and night, after a week you will feel your gums tightening. Do this forever, an oral surgeon recommend this. I had tried ever expensive toothpaste, and literally, this has made my teeth strong, 0 infections. Clean, fresh breath all the time. Absolute game changer.

I really appreciated your videos back in the day. Like I just stumbled on you after years but you were one of the reasons I went ahead and got dentures i was going thru chemotherapy and my teeth were just.... falling out. I've had dentures now for like 6 years now, its a positive but for sure I had similar issues to much gum was the major one then the fittings were killing me and so on.
Still appreciate your videos ty ty
