What's This is very fun to sing because of how fast-paced it is.

Jack's Lament always gets to me because it's one of those songs that makes you feel for the main character. Just hearing how Jack is tired of having to do the same shit every year and wants something new in his life can be a very impactful moment. Like you said in that part, there's definitely been a point where we've been doing one thing in our lives, and we start to grow tired of it and feel the need for something new after a while.
This is Halloween
I feel like people miss how touched Jack was by Sally's gift basket, and he talked so warmly to her when he gave her the Sandy Claws outfit assignment. Not a great deal of screentime is devoted to their budding romance, but I find their little moments to be well acted in both voice and animation. And Sally's questionable behavior is what makes her a part of a Halloween culture.

Regarding Jack’s feelings for Sally, it’s always insinuated that he likes her back but he himself doesn’t realize that he likes her (yet). When Sally sends him the gift basket he’s genuinely happy to see her and flattered by her gift, and rather disappointed she disappeared before he could thank her. Jack even gives Sally the most important job in making his version of Christmas, assigning her to make his Santa Claus outfit, showing he admires her talents and knows he can trust her. When he finds her in Oogie’s lair that’s the moment he realizes how much she cares for him. And even by the end, it’s not Sally who starts their duet, it’s Jack with him confessing his feelings and desire to be with her. Jack was so focus on Christmas he never realized his true happiness was in Halloween Town all along with Sally.
Whether you love to watch it on Halloween, Christmas, or both, this film is an absolute masterpiece and I love it so much. The songs are memorable, the animation still holds up, the characters are likable, and the musical score by Danny Elfman is amazing. It's impressive how beautiful the scenery looks and how good the stop-motion animation is 30 years later.

Sally didn't want to poison the doctor, she just drugged him for going outside.
And yes, Sally is the one who had good sense because after having that vision, she tried to speak to Jack for convincing him to stop because she knew it will be bad.
I don't know if you're into music theory at all, but this film actually dabbles in it a little, with every time Jack sings, and when Sally sings.
There's what's called the Phrygian stank note that they both hit when they sing. It's basically a note that sounds slightly off from the rest of the notes being sung in a lyric.
You can hear it in Jack's lament, and Sally's song.
It's used to show their connection, even on the most basic musical level.

Really, Sally was more “drugging” the doctor guy than “poisoning” him. The idea wasn’t to kill him, but to put him to sleep for awhile, *_because it was the only way she could ever leave the house._* Seriously, if he would let her get out and about now and then, I’m guessing she would probably stop.
…I’ll grant you the stalker part, though.

This is such a masterpiece! The stop motion, especially for the time is phenomenal, Jack's such a compelling complex protagonist, the culture clash of these different holiday is fun to see, and the songs are amazing, especially "This Is Halloween" and "Oogie Boogie's song."
I wont forget seeing this at the Hollywood Bowl for it's 25tg anniversary. The cast came back and reprised their musical numbers. Catherine O'Hara could still perfectly hit those high notes as Sally and Shock, seeing Paul Reubens (RIP) was unforgettable, and Ken Page had an unbelievable voice all these years later. Then seeing Danny Elfman come out one last time at the end to perform Dead Man's Party was such a nice bonus!
I don't know why, but her reaction to the saxophone player calling Jack, "Bone Daddy," cracked me up.
Every source I see says that Sally is a ragdoll, but I really think she's a scarecrow.. and that would make sense why oogie boogie likes her so much. All of the bugs inside of oogie boogie would really love the leaves..

You said that stop motion is no longer made but that is not true, last year Guillermo del Toro won an Oscar with his stop motion movie Pinocchio

Catherine O'Hara, who played the mother in Home Alone, was the voice of Sally, and Shock (One of the kids that kidnapped Santa Claus).
Paul Reubens (Pee Wee Herman) was the voice of Lock (One of the kids that kidnapped Santa Claus- the one that looked like a devil.
Barrel, the one with the wide grin was voiced by Danny Elfman. He was also the voice of the Clown with the Tearaway Face and the singing voice of Jack Skellington, among several other characters.
The Mayor was voiced by the late Glenn Shadix, who played the psychic medium, Otho, in Beetlejuice, which also starred Catherine O'Hara, the voice of Sally and Shock.
Fun fact: Tim Burton was the producer of this movie. Henry Selick was the director, and also directed James & The Giant Peach and Coraline.

Monster House (2006) is a spooky animated movie. 9 (2009) is another animated film that has some very spooky images and ideas about life.
This is still one of my favorite Tim burton films since I was a little girl. Sally is definitely my favorite character in this. I love her and jack’s relationship in the movie and in the video games and FanFiction.

Because she loves him, even though he never noticed before until he realized why she went down there to save Santa from Oogie and the ending scene on the hill.
Tim Burton unfortunately did not direct this movie though. He was actually the producer for that one
Danny Elfman was supposed to sing AND voice for Jack, but he wasn't that great at just talking for him, so they got someone else.
So now Danny just sings.
I heard that at the time when this movie was in production, Danny Elfman was having the same issues that Jack. So you can say that the songs were Danny singing his feelings through Jack. And he supported by his girlfriend at that time (who also worked in this movie)

There’s still some stop-motion production. In fact, it’s so well done today that people think it’s just 3D CGI. I think it was Tim Burton who got upset for people saying that about stop-motion animation that they started making it look more primitive, more rough regarding the visuals and style, so people could differentiate it from 3D animation
This movie is a Disney classic, and the best movie to play on either Halloween or Christmas. This movie also has some great songs, even though the only two memorable ones are “This is Halloween” and “What’s This?”.
Also, this is a perfect timing! Because The Nightmare Before Christmas was released exactly 30 years ago!

By the way, there's also a video game that acts as a sequel to The Nightmare Before Christmas.
I heard there was going to be a live action of this, and Johnny Depp might be Jack.
I also think the reason why Jack is so obsessed with the warmth he feels is because he knows it from when he was alive.

You're right, it's kind of odd that Jack seems to fall for Sally out of nowhere. (But then again, it's been a while since I watched this whole movie, maybe there were signs.)
Everyone debates between if it's a Christmas or Halloween movie. Really it's a transition movie, the move between both of the holidays. Tim Burton even said that when he wrote the original poem that then turned into the movie, that he was inspired when watching stores transitioned their decorations from Halloween to Christmas. Watching it through the Halloween season, to Thanksgiving here in the US, to Christmas is how my family and I watch it.
For the soundtrack, I am always hard-pressed to pick a fav. It ebbs and flows which I like more. Depends on the day I'm having i guess. :D
Now between this and Coraline you have two Henry Selick movies under your belt!
Also Oogie Boggie's Song is probably my favorite.

Well, Sally have put Deadly Nightshade (which is poisonous to us humans and some animals as well, if not all) in his tea three times prior to "poisoning" the soup. It seems like it's just like sleeping pills in our own world, though he did get a headache from that one, kinda like he was hungover.

Aside from DelToro Pinocchio, there's a movie called "Seal Team". It is technically CG, but the characters move as if they were stop motion. It is a very beautiful and hilarious movie that deserves more attention! If you can, please make a reaction of It, Sophie!

I saw this when I was in my 20s on the big screen. I imagine I only went to see it because of the Tim Burton name. I doubt I would go to a movie just because it is Tim Burton these days. But I remember when "What is This" came on I just thought it was magic. So that has to be my favorite from the movie. Partly it is the magic of it, but it is also some of the cynical asides that don't tend to make it in to people's reactions like his surprised "And absolutely noone's dead".

Also everyone adores and admires Jack because in a video game Called Nightmare before Christmas The Pumpkin King Oogi Boogie tries to turn Halloween town into big town Jack hearing about this is the only one who stands up to oogie boogie defeating and casting him out of Halloween town but still allow him for the celebration they have each year once he was defeated the folks called him The Pumpkin King and King of the Pumpkin patch

I know this movie is popular and loved by so many. Heck I have an aunt with a Jack Skellington tattoo, but I just couldn't get into it. I tried, but I didn't enjoy it. True, the animation is gorgeous. No denying that. And This is Halloween... gosh, I love, LOVE that song so much. Perfect to listen to this holiday.

💀👍 This is the best reaction to this film I've seen so far. 👻 Besides this, "The Corpse Bride" and "Caroline," there are two other really good movies that I can think of which also feature this type of electronically assisted stop-motion animation: "Paranorman" (2012), which is also a great Halloween film and "James & The Giant Peach" (1996), which also features a lot of catchy music, courtesy of Randy Newman.
