today we're gonna be watching our first live action Disney movie on this channel - Cruella!
this movie is straight up crazy and I LOVED EVERY SECOND OF IT!! Emma Stone killed that role.

If you pay really close attention in the beginning when the mom dies, you can actually hear the dog whistle in the background.

20:19 Actually, here's the surprising thing: This was set in the 1970s, which at the time was the era of punk rock fashion.
If anything, I'd say she showed up on people's radar at exactly the right time!
This was set in the early 1970s, not the 60s.
An extra bit of shade: the costume designers for the movie said that the dress made of trash was in fact supposed to be made by Cruella/Estella of peices from the Baroness's previous collections. This movie is so bloody good!
The screenwriter for Devil Wears Prada also wrote the early draft for Cruella. You're welcome.

Brrr, going out on a limb with a little bit of a theory as to why Cruella only saw the Baroness as someone bad/evil once it concerned her mother: all of the things that the Baroness did - the insulting, the abusiveness - might be things that Cruella herself would do but she doesn't as Estella. But I think Cruella holds family close to heart and is protective of them, which is why she only started hating the Baroness once she found out about the necklace.

I actually went to go see this movie in theaters with one of my best friends to celebrate our graduation from High School! Very good movie!
Well, what do you know! I also saw this film weeks before my high school graduation! I actually went to see In The Heights to celebrate my graduation.
Emma Stone was the best part of this movie. I also really liked her as Gwen Stacy in Amazing Spider-Man movies

Realistically, this film doesn't particularly coincide with either version of 101 Dalmatians, so you don't miss much having not watched them. This is more like reinventing Cruella as a character more than setting up either of those films, continuity-wise.
this is basically a prequel, the post-credits scene actually shows Anita and Roger receiving their dalmatians: Pongo and Perlita, which ties up the knot quite nicely into the beginning of the dalmatians movie
I like to pretend this is an alternate universe becuase we all know cruella grows up and becomes that crazy smoking dalmatian killer, but this one makes her look like she still cares
True, this part is missi g in the movie like the origin of her hair color
The hair is a bit deal because it's extremely unique, and she's had it like that since birth. Therefore, if someone were to try to track her down, she stands out in a crowd, whether intentionally or not. If she's going to have to pull off any kind of heist, she needs to alter a lot of things, starting with her black-and-white locks.
Emma Stone, The soundtrack and the Fashion were the highlights of the movie!
While Glenn Close may have produced this film, she also served uncredited as executive consultant to Emma Stone.

The hair thing is so surprising because it’s set in the fifties/sixties I believe? So it would have been unusual.
Actually, Cruella calling the Baroness a psycho is rather fitting. Who better than the psycho called Cruella to recognize a fellow psycho.
This film was more if a re-imaginging of the character. Please watch the original film. I recommend you watch the live action one made in the 2000's or 99's as this film is almost a prequel to the Glenn Close Cruella. Such a great film

(Typing this comment before I watch the actual reaction because I really felt the need to say this, apologies)
I watched the original dalmation movies first when I was a child and while they were fun, I still prefer the live action movie over it. There's just something about Cruella embracing her true personality and getting the closure she needs that feels so powerful to me.
(In my opinion, because I don't actually KNOW) Estella was created out of necessity and as a way to honour her mother and/or like do what her mother always asked her to do: to "tone it down". And while I enjoyed seeing Estella on screen, Cruella felt so much more genuine.
I just really love this version of Cruella where she can be extreme and she can be cruel (oop, pun), but she still loves and cares for the people who matter and are important in her life. The line where Cruella goes, "But I do love you. Always." I STARTED CRYING PLEASE :"D
6:27 is literally my favorite line in this movie ever and I have used that line ever since the movie came out.

I don't think Estella *had* much of a moral compass. I don't think it was about that: as far as the Baroness insulting people, she was insulting Estella the entire time, so it's not like she was oblivious.
What made her care all of a sudden was because the Baroness was insulting her very loving mother, and that is a very personal line to cross with Estella, probably the *only* line she had. It was never about morality with Estella, it was "you've spoken horribly and cavalierly about my mother's death and I want my mother avenged."
Dalmatians are super territorial so when they saw her sneaking around near their master they probably attacked her to defend their human.
There are 2 different "101 dalmatian" movies. I heard the live action was done first, and it (story line) fits well with this movie (exception being Anita wasnt black. But i do love all Anitas). But the animation one is my favorite (simply because its from the dogs pov). Admittedly the animation one doesnt connect story wise. How anita and cruella knew eachother and what their relationship really was was unclear to me.
Well, in the animated movie, or at least in the french version, Roger says Anita and Cruella were classmates.
Always in the french version, Pongo's voice actor was also the french voice of a lot of Disney and non-Disney characters, except he used his real voice for Pongo.

Weel 101 dalmatians the live action was my childhood movie totally recomended but then Cruella came along and dethroned it but yeah 101 dalmatians live action totally good

101 Dalmatians the Live Action is actually pretty good, as far as Disney Live Actions go. It really goes well with this one, if you assume Estella is truly dead and Cruella continues down the road of psycho narcissist.

You should watch both the animated and the live action 101 Dalmatians. If not both, I recommend the animated version.
4:50 Her sneaking in the party that make the dogs go crazy, let the dogs outside and that happened. It could be possible that the dogs wouldn't have done outside until. the mom and Stella left but who knows maybe the dog would hear the whistle from way inside the party. I think the too many sounds would overwhelm them to hear the outside whistle though

If you despise movies involving talking animals, don't watch the animated version(s) of the dalmatian-heavy movies. The live-action 101 and 102 Dalmatians don't make the animals talk out loud in English. But in the animated versions, we can understand every word (hopefully; there are some animals that seem to have pretty thick accents, as I recall).

It's so interesting when people mention morals in this movie, and find some of the characters unlikeable.....umm yes, exactly. This is a VILLIAN origin story! lol. Also compared to the early 2000's 101 Dalmations they definitely "tamed" Cruella, because in the earlier movies the GOAL was for her to kill the dalmations and use their fur for clothing. I for one love the "unlikeable" characters, it's more fun.

Loved this film! Plus you weren’t the only who was reminded of the Devil Wears Prada as other videos have suggested it too. I haven’t personally seen it all the way through but can see it.
If you do plan to watch the 101 Dalmations, I would suggest the animated version(1961) and then the live action (1996) if you’re feeling very into it lol but I also know you wanna distance from animated movie for the moment which is understandable.
