What is favorite Disney live action adaptation?
Definitely Cinderella (2015)
101 Dalmatians 🔥
Cruella is an amazing one
Cinderella and 101 Damations were the best, but I did enjoy watching them all. I haven't seen the Lion King though.
Beauty and the beast
‘Strange and charming’ baha, that could equally be a description of Helena Bonham Carter. I watched an interview with her a while ago where she was just casually reclining in a weird corset type thing, munching strawberries the whole time and gazing dreamily into the distance 😂
That's Helena for sure 😊 she's lovely tho 🥰
Every story I’ve heard of her is amazing 😂
Yep, she’s an odd one 😂
@@dylancole1910 Weren't you paying attention?
All the best people are.
Haha
I like the fact that she lived with her parents till her 30s lmao. She told that to some interviewer, casually and shamelessly. Atta gurl. 😁
The real Alice was a 10-year-old girl named Alice Liddell, who befriended Carroll when he was attending Oxford University. As the story goes, Carroll made up the story of Alice while entertaining her and her two sisters on “one golden afternoon.”
“She asks again and again and again for the stories and for it to be written down,” Vega said. “It’s only because of this little girl’s absolute persistence in not letting it go that we have the story today.”
According to Vega, Alice Liddell grew up to live a “pretty conventional Victorian life.” After her husband died, she found herself facing financial difficulties and was forced to sell Carroll’s original manuscript that he had given her as a child.
“She had it for almost her entire life,” Vega said. “She was a little girl when she received this manuscript, and it was only near the end of her life that she parted with it.”
Who’s Vega?
@@dylancole1910 Vega is Carolyn Vega who is a curator at the Morgan Library and Museum in New York where the original manuscript of Alice in Wonderland was presented at an exhibit at a time that was centered around Alice in Wonderland and I presumed that William Drake just copied and pasted the information from a site in a comment.
lewis was a well-known pedophile. and that makes this fact very disturbing tbh. poor alice
I like to think of this one as a continuation. The animated version is the dream Alice had at the start of this one and what everyone remembers of ‘the old Alice’
Correct. There's still the sequel, though, Alice Through the Looking Glass(?)
@@nobleconsejera5278 as much as it’s true, i like to pretend that sequel doesn’t really exist because i feel like it’s such a downgrade when i watched it back when it first came out in theatres. I also think that this remake already feels like accompaniment to the original cartoon years ago, closure to the story if you will.
The poem "Jabberwocky" is actually from the book, Alice in Wonderland.
I had heard that Alice never went to Wonderland. It was all in her head. Not in a dream. But that her real life was so horrible for her, that she dissociated entirely and started hallucinating and became increasingly paranoid. In truth, it's about a story of a young girl dealing with the loss of her father and onset mental illness, who wanted nothing more than to desperately escape her powerless life. She created an entire fantasy in her mind as a way to escape her existence.
duhh its in the animated version, this one was different🙄
@@vecna5753 You could have explained that without the "duh" and "eyeroll emoji". Just saying. 🤷
As someone who was raised by abusive parents, I really feel/relate to this comment. For me, music, movies, books, and journaling were my escape. Nothing like a beautiful fantasy to get your mind off of a horrific reality.
It sounds familiar
@@sassylittleprophet that is very sad I feel bad for you and I like this one more than the animation one.
This came out in 2010?! Man, I'm old 👵 But I loved both movies so much!!
This is one of my favorite remakes of Disney. Alice in Wonderland is so unique and cool. 🤩🔥
THIS IS MY FAVORITE DISNEY LIVE ACTION ADAPTATION! literally a masterpiece, everything in this movie was just right, the tim burton vibes are just out of this world. ughhhh love it so much!!!
This is an instance of a terrible adaptation, but a decent movie.
@@oliviarogers2808 True. It's not an adaptation as much as it is an homage And a sequel because they refer to the original story as something that's happened before
@@LA_HA yes! :) still, i really really really enjoyed every single second of it!
@@ems5454 Isn't it awesome? I love it, too
I couldn't agree more. Tim Burton was so great at the time. Dumbo disappointed me.
The thing that i like the most about this movie is the dark feeling of the story, the animated movie is a lot more musical and colorful but this one is the complete opposite, you can realy see Tim Burton's style.
You can thank this film for starting the trend of Disney's various LARs. I appreciate them making this a sequel, though; that wouldn't work for every movie.
And movie has had the same 3d shiny title card since.
I won't hold that against it 😅
No,thank Cinderella 2015
@@esmetheexpressohyena9337 please, Cinderella came years later and it was quite horrific
@@leonardolonghi3472 yeah
Hatters worked with Mercury and constant exposure to the fumes caused Erethism (Mercury poisoning or Mad Hatter Disease). Erethism is characterized by behavioral changes such as irritability, low self-confidence, depression, apathy, shyness and timidity, and in some extreme cases with prolonged exposure to mercury vapors, by delirium, personality changes and memory loss. People with erethism often have difficulty with social interactions.
Oh thanks for the explanation
The actor who plays Stayne is Crispin Glover, Marty McFly's dad from Back to the Future. Stephen Fry (narrator of Harry Potter books) plays the cat and Timothy Small (Peter Pettigrew) plays Bayard the dog. Very stack cast
this is still one of my favourite movies. tim burton brought so much wonder (pun intended) to the already crazy and unique story, paired with danny elfmans AWESOME soundtrack, beautiful costuming, and incredible performances. it is so strange and it brings me so much joy
This is one of Disney live remakes that is really good.
This one is actually iconic
And they kinda liked followed the dark real story on the book, and through the looking glass.
The designs the actors are pure Masterpiece
Yeah since Alice in Wonderland is like a fever dream, you aren't really supposed to know what's going on cause it is pure chaos. Which is frustrating on one hand, but on the other hand, very accurate to how chaotic dreams actually are
I remember not being fond of animated movie at all and years later when this one came out, by then I had already forgotten the title of original movie. I fell in love with this. I always liked the grim fantasy take of Tim Burton movies, not to mention Johnny Depp and Helena Carter always made those movies worth it. I remember Hatter being one of my favourite Johnny Depp characters besides Jack Sparrow and I feel nostalgic that even Anne Hathaway is in it. Back when I was crazy for in Princess Diaries 1&2, Ella Enchanted and other movies.
I really recommend more Kim Burton movies and also Anne Hathaway movies.
i think it's very important that she starts to get the hang of things when she starts actively making her own decisions, going to save the hatter despite everyone else telling her to go to the white queen. for me it highlights that this is about alice "growing up" and becoming her own person. her allies in wonderland push for her to go to the white queen not out of malice, they are on her side, but she still has to make her own choice for the plot to progress and for her character to develop; it mirrors her "real" life, where she is being pushed by people again not really out of malice but rather their own self involvement or a "this is what is proper, this is how things are done" kind of thinking. she cannot be alice unless she decides, and so she does
"Jabberwocky" written by Lewis Carroll and it was included in his 1871 novel Through the Looking-Glass, the sequel to Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.
this is one of my favorite movies but the scene where the hatter is walking with alice on his shoulder is when he recites an actual ppoem called "Jabberwocky" by lewis carroll. the soundtrack is hands down my favorite, too! aloha from hawaii!
So glad you guys enjoyed this! I absolutely LOVE anything Alice in Wonderland related. This is a favorite of mine
Underland! Underland!! you are as dimwitted as Alice 🤦♂
The animated one has been my comfort movie and special interest since I was 6😭💕 as someone with autism, I get really attached to certain things and the 1951 movie is so special to me and I love your channel and cannot WAIT for you guys to react to that one!!!
Johnny Depp as Hatter was the Perfect casting for me
Number one, The reason why the whole atmosphere of this whole thing is dark is not because Tim Burton is uncapable of making bright colorful atmospheres, but it’s because he wanted it to make it look like as if the red queen took over everything so everything went to bad. In the second movie because the red queen is not the queen anymore in the second movie it’s a lot more bright and lovely, I highly suggest you see that movie.
Secondly, the reason why it’s not like the original Disney movie is because Tim was trying to make it a lot more like the original book, which in my opinion was a fantastic choice, there was so much that the original Disney movie have left out, that and this time. It’s supposed to be years after she visited wonderland for the first time. Like this would be her second time visiting Wonderland. Which is why a lot of the characters in this movie looked nothing like the original Disney version, he was going for the book version.
And just probably my favorite detail of the whole thing is the fact that the people she meets outside of wonderland like the real people were kind of boring at the wedding are supposed to be the counterparts of people in wonderland. The guy that she was going to marry actually supposed to represent the Jabberwocky in the way she defeated it, the two twins are you supposed to be twiddle dee and twiddle dum counterparts, The mother of the guy she was going to marry is supposed to represent the red queen which is why she is so snotty and rude. And the husband of her is supposed to be the counterpart of the blue Caterpillar. Just a lot of details that not a lot of people realize, very much apologize for the long comment
The Jabberwocky is another Lewis Caroll poem that`s referenced on multiple occasions in "Alice`s Adventures in Wonderland" and "Through The Looking Glass". I read it in theatre class in high school.
This, despite the common dislike of it is one of my favorite live action Disney remakes. I think Tim Burton was the perfect person for this movie, and Johnny Depp really makes this movie worth it. I liked the Hatter in this movie better than the hatter in the original cartoon actually, the way he plays him and his whole costume just makes him so much more unhinged and I love it. Really like the second film too, I can’t wait for that as well.
🤮
I saw this movie at the cinema with my sister. I felt so sure that to fully understand everything, you had to be smoking something 😂. I'm going to watch it with you guys, maybe you'll help me understand what the blinkers is going on 😵💫😉
Lol, no I sorta felt the same way!
@@whitenoisereacts
Will you react to Arisocats?
Great reaction! I love seeing Johnny completely transform for his roles. You should also check out charlie and the chocolate factory... another eerie world
I wish James called me a lovely man....
The question "Why is a raven like a writing desk? was answered somewhat by the phrase, " Because they both produce flat notes." Lewis Carroll never actually had an answer when he wrote ' Alice's Adventures in Wonderland'. It was something that was answered much later. I believe he answered the question in a letter to a friend.
Please react to Cinderella 3 and also the live-action Cinderella from 2015. They're both amazing!
yes!!
This is one of my favorite movies :)
Fun fact: I didn't realise this when I was a kid. The name Jakarta didn't exist in the 19th century or whenever this movie took place because Indonesia was still called The Dutch-Indies, under the occupation of the Dutch and the capital was called Batavia. It was later in 1945 after they officially gained independence and then became Indonesia and the capital name changed to Jakarta.
It was so epic when I first watched it I love Alice in wonderland its such a rush when Alice is in the air about to cut his head off and she goes ''OFF WITH YOUR HEAD" mocking the red queen ugh I loved it
Mia Wasikowska(Alice) is Australian of Polish descent(I am also of Polish-Ukrainian descent on my maternal grandfather`s side) , Tim Burton worked with her to perfect the Victorian English descent she had in The Film.
38:39 Yes, the Red Queen is inspired by Queen Elizabeth I. She too used to wear red wigs in a heart shape!
Ok cool!!! I thought so
I don't know what it was, but this may have been my favorite reaction of yours. As was true for all emo kids when this came out, this was one of my favorite movies ever. As was anything Tim Burton tbh...thanks for the awesome reaction, guys! Excited to see the animated reaction because it is a TRIP.
btw! The actor for Stayne/ Knave of Hearts is Crispin Glover, who is the father (George McFly) from Back To The Future
*the fact that tim burton will always have sir christopher lee, helena bonham carter, johnny depp and danny elfman in his films is a fact that i fucking LOVE*
It is an Oscar Winning Billion Dollar Hit!
No matter how it's told, I love returning to the crazy world of Wonderland. And of course the pair of you reacting to it. Thank you and take care..xx
So glad you watched this! In the past, I wasn't ever into the AIW thing but years ago, once this adaption came to Tv, I gave it a shot one day. Mostly because JDepp was in it. I came away just loving it!🤗 I especially love how Alice even though she kept trying to make sense and talk herself out of everything she was experiencing....that she basically said in a sense- F-It! Puts on the armor and tells herself those things in her countdown to build herself up and toss what convention of the time she grew up in to stand strong and get the job done in killing the beast! 😁 She took what she learned back with her to change her life as an empowered young woman. I've watched this movie over the years quite a bit, esp. if I might be having a rough few days. Anyways, I loved that the Hatter when PO'd goes into full Scots mode lol. And Depp does it too awesomely. (I happen to be part Scottish by heritage, and go sometimes to the local Scottish/ Highland Games.)
Slante' guys!🍹🍻
i know nobody would see this but i love how Ninetailedbrush says exact what i say when i see the movie " now eat more giant cake and destroy that castle like godzilla :3 " jsjsjsjs i love him :3
This was amazing in the theatres in 3D! Loved it! :D
I always thought that the answer to why a raven is like a writing desk is "they both have feathers."
One of the things that I love about this movie is that the animals, despite being CGI still have a lot of emotions.
fun fact, Iracebeth is actually the red queen and not the queen of hearts and her younger sister is the white queen. The entire movie is set in the kingdom of Chess, hence why the battle field looks like a chess board. The movie has portrayed the Helena Bonham carter as a mix of the red queen and the queen of hearts. But, Hearts is an entirely different kingdom in the book.
A lot of people don't like the sequel but I like it. You should react too. I certainly would watch!
Did you know they made a dark version of Alice in Wonderland as a game, they were going to make a show or a movie of it with Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) but they cancelled it.
Hilarious that this is probably Disney’s best live action adaptation
Great review. This was indeed an interesting movie. I love the design of the characters - especially the red queen with her giant head. The costumes were creative and colorful and helped tell the story as well as the stages and scenery. This felt almost like a sci-fi mashup with the dragon slaying and stuff - it was a little less fairytale and a little more grownup. The dancing at the end though - kinda strange. Threw the whole movie off at the end with mad hatter doing some hip hop dance moves. Would love to see you guys review The Last Dragon, The Golden Child, A Family Thing, Soul Man, Jumping The Broom. Just sayin.
I was 7 when this came out, yet to this day i REALLY want a Bandersnatch
My favorite version of this is the tv miniseries from 1985. The cast is star studded (for the time) with Sammy Davis Jr as the caterpillar. It is very much cheesy 80's, but it filled my 5 year old heart full of wonder and I still love it to this day. I
Omg, I was actually wondering a few days ago if you'd seen this movie and if you'll ever do the reaction video, and now we here. I absolutely love Alice in wonderland, probably my favorite storybook and Disney animation. Thank you for watching!
What this reaction really makes me think is that we really think a lot through our problems like throughout the movie we were like do this, this is rationl and a better option but this whole story is just a childish imagination and that she faces problems like a child. One at a time and i think that's really cute.
fun fact: Hatters actually were going mad back in the day because they worked with mercury while making the hats.
Also regarding the anime channel: Please react to sasaki to miyano it is such a funny and cute anime
Part 2 was Alan Rickmans last voice role I think. The movie was released after he already died.
That’s so sad
A Raven is like a Writing Desk because (Edgar Allan) Poe wrote extensively on both.
The actor for the Knave, Stayne is the "Creepy thin man" from Charlie's Angels (2000's).
Alice freaked out when the White Queen asked her to fight because of the parallel to the Marriage Proposal.
I like this movie more than most recent live action movies because it's gives a twist to the story we all know and love while also keeping it's essence at core! You should really watch the sequel, its pretty cool
Alice using the "off with your head" while killing the Jabberwocky was honestly so epic
The knave is Crispin Glover, who played the dad in the first Back to the Future film.
18:30 I think a "Hatter" is a person who panned for gold and often times were poisoned by mercury which made the go insane.
Short answer: Tim’s Alice has absolutely…positively….NOTHING to do with Lewis Carroll’s book. (Except for that flashback at the end that gets it so right, you wish he could have made that movie.). Most.of the shenanigans are left over from a Dark-Alice-videogame movie Wes Craven wanted to make, with most of the game’s mistakes intact-Like the Queen of Hearts referred to as the “Red Queen” (from another book), or suggesting she actually did off heads. 🤦. Short answer #2: The Disney cartoon got it right.
Yea I don't think it should be rlly compared to the book or the disney cartoon cuz it was made to be different. Why have another live action remake when you could have a darker squeal? I think on its own it's still a good movie with the dialogue and the epic battle scenes. It's basically its own movie, and I don't think that's a bad thing. I respect your opinion but I just can't agree.
I love these movies, they are actually great. I would recommend watching the second one as well.
Omg I love the struggle of “she’s gotta marry that….lovely man?!”
41:25 over a decade later and I still see this is one of the most badass winning quotes I’ve ever heard😂😂😂😝😝😝
This is special to me cause they ahd a perfect cast and director.
Anne Hathaway
Alan Rickman
Helena Bonhan Carter
JOHNNY Depp etc
Especially Alan Rickman like I think this is one of the last movies that he did before he passed away due to cancer. It was this one and another one of him like portraying a general or something. You guys can look it up but yeah. I was 15 when he died literally in January I forgot thw date but somewhere in the second week I think.
I've always loved how the Hatter/Johnny goes in and out of a Scottish brogue depending on his mental state. It's just amazing.
Plus a deep Scottish brogue is just so attractive.
you need to watch the original alice in wonderland then. i just wish people today would react to the original movies too. i found johnny attractive as mad hatter like i found him attractive in edward scissorhands, the Caterpillars is Alan Rickman , did you notice it has Helena Bonham Carter in it who is the queen of hearts who played in harry potter as bellatrix if you haven't see it, and has Anne Hathaway who played the white queen.Crispin Hellion Glover played the knave of hearts, he played in 2000's charlie's angels with drew barrymore in it. of course i like my original disney cartoon movies growing up, but i liked these. this movie may be underrated cause i watched it growing up and the evil lady on there scared me and still does, the movie is called Sword in the Stone, it's the 1963 one, can you please react to that movie.
23:15 Bellatrix's laughter 😂
How is a raven like a writing desk?
Poe wrote on both!
It's hard to talk about the fidelity of this adaptation ... because it is not an adaptation. This is the sequel to the book.
That guy (queen of hearts villan) he was also in Charlie's Angels as the Creepy hair man
my 11 yr old daughter loves this and the other movie.
When I first saw this movie I was not expecting a Potterverse of actors and actresses. Pink flower-Umbridge, Aunt Imogen-Madame Maxime (Goblet of Fire), The Hound-Peter Pettigrew/Wormtail, Hatter-Grindelwald, Red Queen- Bellatrix, and Blue Catepillar-Snape. And the actor playing Stayne has been in Back to the Future, Like Mike, and both Charlie’s Angels- the Drew, Lucy, and Cameron version.
As for the Red Queen representing one of the Tudors I’d go more for Queen Mary as she got the nickname Bloody Mary.
I loved James reaction when the White Queen was making the potion to shrink Alice. Honestly the ingredients were interesting but at same time dont want to be eating while watching that scene.
Now some people dont like this movie, especially hardcore animated Alice fans, but I like it. Its creepy, unique, expands on the world of Wonderland, and it has a unique take on a book series. Looking Glass I will admit is more my favorite primarily because of Time.
Oh, now seeing as you two have seen Johnny in a hatter hat and a pirates hat which is your favorite on him? Mine is pirate.
Close to a 100k!!! Both of you is my favorite movie reactor. You both deserves it💜
I enjoyed watching with you. really looking forward to the second part
I heard that Tim Burton was inspired by the video game American McGee's Alice for this movie, especially the fight with the Jabberwocky.
When u said the editing was odd, it was actually intended I think cause the whole part before she goes into the wonderland is confusing ( even in the book). I think of it as so: When we r seeing real things that happen around us, we try to make sense of them. The whole part before wonderland is super confusing and so abruptly set up, but we try to make sense of it and get confused, but after we enter wonderland, we don't even try to think rationally cause like, its all crazy and unseen and so new. Its a touch I found while re reading the book as well. I do not know if that was done on purpose by Lewis caroll but I decifer it that way
James: I'm confused.
Dude, any version of the tea party scene, whether it's the Disney animated, Tim Burton live action, tv series, book, Batman (for those who don't know, there is a Batman villain who calls himself the Mad Hatter whose main specialty is mind control), or whatever, is crazy and mad and very confusing.
P.S. I know why a raven is like a writing desk!
AAAAAAA!!!, GUYS, YOU MADE ANOTHER OF MY DAYS THE MOST UNFORGETTABLE ..., THANK YOU FOR ACCEPTING MY IDEA😆😇😎, You remembered me☺💖🤗, and this is the main thing for me - attention, but not only it ..., there are many other qualities ..., I give you my like and wish - 100 MILLION subscribers!
Thanks❤
It’s funny how you’re going down the Alice in Wonderland rabbit hole (pun absolutely intended) with movies after you just finished Peter Pan because FUN FACT, the voice for Wendy in the animated film Kathryn Beaumont ALSO voices Alice in the animated film of Alice in Wonderland :D
this was me and my moms favorite movie. And my brothers favourite book as a child
Hearing the whole movie of Alice in Wonderland movie was really awesome. You both reacting and saying your reviews were great. It was really fun to hear the movie again after a long time.
The jack of hearts guy is Marty Mcflys dad from back to the future! I didn't even realize till u said he looked familiar lol
31:04 is Crispin Glover, most notably, he plays George McFly (Back to the Future). His other roles are Willard (Willard), Thin Man (Charlie's Angels), Eddie (Drop Dead Sexy), Willy (Epic Movie), 6 (9), and many more. He is a fabulous actor, I love him as much as Johnny Depp. ❤❤❤❤
It was only recently as I rewatch that I finally realize the moat around the Queen of Heart’s castle is blood filled with the decapitated heads
The jack of hearts what I call him is played the same actor of the dad of Marty in back to the future
I read on Internet the look of the Red Queen is inspired of Elisabeth I
Tim Burton has “drawn heavily “ from this old game from 2000 “American McGee’s Alice” and it’s sequel “Alice Madness Returns”
Yes. I'm glad someone pointed this out.
Knave of Hearts is Crispin Glover from Back to the Future (George McFly)
Rest in peace Alan rickman always 😞
The cool thing about Tim Burton is that he undeniably makes it his own, either to his credit or... not to his credit. And usually no one can agree on which it is. I consider that an absolute win.
More Mia Wasikowska hit films:
1. The Kids Are All Right (2010) - Indie, Oscar nominated, family comedy-drama - Annette Bening, Julianne Moore, Mark Ruffalo
2. Only Lovers Left Alive (2013) - Indie, vampire, comedy-drama - Tilda Swinton, Tom Hiddleston
3. The Double (2013) - Dostoyevsky's doppelgänger novella as a dark comedy thriller - Jesse Eisenberg
4. Maps to the Stars (2014) - Hollywood satire meets Oedipal drama - Julianne Moore, Robert Pattinson, John Cusack
I love the design of the card soldiers!
Crispin Glover the Knave is an awesome bad guy. You know him from Back To The Future.
I think one of the reason why Alice was so convinced that all of that was just a dream is because that place was all she was dreaming about all her life, why couldn't this be just a dream like any others?
