  • Nightmare Before Christmas Reaction is today's video!
Hey everyone! Join me as I watch The Nightmare Before Christmas for the first time today! I loved the Music and the animation style of this movie as well as the main character Jack Skelington! The songs were catchy and the Oogie Boogie Man was definately a great villain!
The film follows the misadventures of Jack Skellington, Halloweentown's beloved pumpkin king, who has become bored with the same annual routine of frightening people in the "real world." When Jack accidentally stumbles on Christmastown, all bright colors and warm spirits, he gets a new lease on life -- he plots to bring Christmas under his control by kidnapping Santa Claus and taking over the role. But Jack soon discovers even the best-laid plans of mice and skeleton men can go seriously awry.

"Everything would be solved if the girl would just talk to the guy she likes" - except Sally DID talk to Jack. Twice! She told him that she had a bad feeling about them taking over Christmas because she was the only one who saw that Jack and the others didn't understand what Christmas was and what it meant. The whole point is that Jack didn't listen to her when he should have. He let himself be swayed by the other townspeople who wanted this new holiday to be Halloween 2.0.

Just a disclaimer, Disney didn't actually have that big of a hand in making this movieb they owned the rights to Tim Burton's short story it was based off. Disney primarily provided the rights, some funding, and distributed it via Touchstone. It wasn't until after it became successful that they came forward and were all like "Yeah, we were the ones who made this movie."

Funny you'd mention the Grinch cuz How The Grinch Stole Christmas is one of the inspirations for Nightmare. Tim Burton have stated that he wanted to make a character that was the opposite of The Grinch, who instead of hating Christmas and wants to ruin it, he embraces Christmas and wants to make it his own, which is what Jack is.
Even if it is Christmas Town, rather than Whoville, Burton used Dr. Seuss design as inspiration for the look of the place.

I absolutely love this movie. growing up, this was, and still is, one of my all time favorite films of all time! the stop motion is still amazing to this day, the songs i could sing for hours (with different covers to boot), i love the designs and style of the world and the moral "if your stuck in a rut, pick yourself up and do what you want to do even if it's out of your comfort zone" and Jack does just that. he went for a goal he thought would be simple, saw complications but thought of he's own way and when things didn't go to plan: he realized that he did what he wanted and that spark of the pit of repetitiveness ended and goes back to loving what he does best!
i try to watch this movie twice a year (both for Halloween and Christmas) and i atleast see the Haunted Mansion decorated with Jack and Friends taking over. i know not everyone will fall in love with it as i do, but it's still a masterpiece in my eyes.

Nightmare isn't claymation as they used stop-motion puppets but the principle of the animation is the same. There are a few exceptions. Oogie Boogie's bugs are claymation and the Melting Man's skin is made of a special clay that they blew a hair dryer in-between shots to make him melt slightly.

Since I didn't see this in the comments yet- one popular interpretation of this movie is that it's about cultural appropriation. Jack finds a holiday he likes but doesn't understand, and he then not only openly chooses to misrepresent the holiday to his people to make it palatable to them, but then decides that he understands said holiday to such an extent as to become the supreme being that rules it, just for kicks.

I hope you watch How the Grinch Stole Christmas (either the Chuck Jones cartoon from 1966 or the live action version with Jim Carrey, but would you like to react to both) and The Grinch (the Illumination version from 2018, it's good too). I also like you to react to Mickey's Christmas Carol and The Muppets Christmas Carol.

I'm glad that you watch Nightmare before Christmas, this is one of my favorite Halloween\ Christmas movies of all time and my mom's. I can't wait when you see Coraline because I was wondering when you were gonna watch that. But still can't wait, you the man Cody. You the man
P.S. I also wondered why this came out on Wednesday instead on Monday. I guess it's because of hard time connecting or if you were fallen behind on the date.

No it is because of the analytics.. More people are on on wednesday now and saturday instead of monday.

Very soon it will be Day of the Dead here in Mexico. So you could react to "The Book Of Life". Please. It's a great movie

When I finally saw this movie, I was.. honestly, underwhelmed. It wasn't really bad, it just never... made me interested. I appreciated Jack's story, what he was trying to do and all that. But overall it just wasn't.. interesting. I never found any reason that I should care about what any of the characters want.
