looks great rick. I love the 3m trizac system. makes all your body work time worth it. cant wait to see it outside or maybe you driving down the road!!!!!!!!
Great video. Those extra steps make a huge difference in the way the paint and reflections turn out. Just picked up an 86 Caprice coupe and started working on it.
Merry Christmas Rick, sorry I havent been around for a while now. I want to wish your family a great 2015 and I was blown away at how far the Nova has come along. It is a work of art Rick, truly a magnificent job. Your heart and soul and a lot of sweat went into this girl and like Carl said, pat yourself on the back. Not many people can say that with 2 halves of a car and little knowledge in metalwork, produced such a magnificent show car. All the best my friend....................John.
Rick, first I would like to wish you, your lovely wife and family a very Merry Christmas :) and second are you kidding me lol the Nova looks awsome I wouldn't push your luck. It looks amazing ....pat yourself on the back my friend :)
***** thankx cary, and a very merry xmas to u and your family too,im very happy with how the nova is looking but those wavy lines drive ya crazy, lol, going to try 1 more time and hope i dont burn through, its scary wet sanding clear but ill be very careful,tc my friend and have a good one
Man that is looking good!! It's already better than factory so anything you're doing just makes it even better. Looks great when it's buffed, a real strong shade of yellow. Merry Christmas!
Looking good. Those head rests can be a PIA. Usually you can remove them using a long strip of metal slid down the stem, it pushes the latch open so you can slide them out.
I think the paint looks amazing Rick.. Personally I don't care for the 1500 DA paper. But I have never tried the Trizact 1500 so maybe it is better.. Its hard to cut peel out with 2000. I would wet block with 1500 grit then do your 2000 and 3000. Either way, it looks awesome. Merry Christmas Rick and thanks for the card! lol
Shut Yer Face Garage thankx matt,u r right about the 2000 not cutting the peel, seems like ive sanded for days,do u think that wavyness im seeing is peel ,im going to give the wet block 1500 a try and hope i dont burn through, lol,if i can get the 1500 trizact ill let u know if it works merry xmas to u and the gang, glad the card got to ya in time, lmao
TheRickfix Its hard to say without seeing it in person. But I do know that sometimes you can cause ripples by sanding with a small soft block and to fine of a grit. 1500 will cut if flatter for sure.
Great over with the the long flat block..m that car is so straight that it was a good call u won't burn through. .I would cut 1500..2000 trizac...3000 4000...either way it's looking awesome!! CJ
CountrySideClub thankx cj,my worse fear is burning through but got 4 coats of high solid clear so im hoping ill be good, merry xmas to u and your family,tc
Looking very nice. I have had great luck just doing this all by hand and it isn't that much work. I start with 400, then move to 800, 1500, 2000, then polish. Make sure to use liberal amounts of water on the sanding. Always turns out like glass.
Kenton Groombridge thankx,im hoping to get it to look like glass, without them waves lol,not much experience with wet sanding clear and not sure what i can get away with but im going to keep going, just hope i dont burn through, lol, have a merry xmas,tc
In my opinion when using the trizact paper its better to overwater than to starve it. If it doing its job like you want the water on the panel will turn white. Ive even used windex to lubricate the trizact instead of water. And the only reason for windex is it doesnt allow the pad to "stick'" to the panal.
good job bud make sure you put a good wax on after you wash it by hand it needs to be sealed compound is not a wax Merry Christmas to u and your family and to everyone who reads this have u herd from hpr
Doesn't using the paper towel put scratches back into the paint? Remember too that when you are looking at the roof and trunk like that you are looking at it from a different angle than you are when you look at the sides of the car. Sure looks good to me! Very nice job.
looks awesome Rick........sometimes artificial light can really give the wrong look, I'd push it outside and see how she looks, personally I'd be really happy with that, but i know how it is, it's got to meet your standards! What colour is it, it's really nice?
danelectro68 thankx neil,i think u r right, lights r playing tricks on my eyes,i like how she looks but trying to take her to a level ive never done before, justhope i dont burn through, lol, the color is competetion yellow like on the chevy cameros, its realy bright, merry amas to u and your family,tc
pitstoptr3 thankx,im liking how its turning out,i think being in the garage its playing tricks on my eyes, lol, next vid ill have it outside in the sun to see how she looks, thanks for watching and have a merry xmas,tc
rod s that silver mat is a insulated pad that goes in your windshield to block the sun off your dash, can get it at a dollar store,im going to try and use it for sound deadener on the insides of the doors and the walls of the trunk, going to find something different for the floor, something that is better againt heat, hope that helps,tc
Please - would you come over and help me wet sand this guitar I'm trying to refinish!! Going on 6 weeks now. 3 time today, I wet sanded, and was so close to done, when I burned through the fuckin paint. I was trying to be so careful and just go with 1000 grit to take down the orange peel. Guess I didn't spray enough clear. FUDGE ME. Had to touch that spot up and re-clear the entire body. I dumped a pile of it on there. Nitro lacquer seems to rub down quick??
Woodeso's Guitar Mods i havent wet sanded clear very much and have been lucky so far, havent burned through yet but i know the day is coming and its going to make me sick, lol, hopefully your next sanding will go well, merry xmas buddy,tc
TheRickfix hahaha. Oh it made me sick alright. Little tiny brown spot. Itty bitty. I'm like what is that??? Dust?? Rub it away some more? Sure enough, 2 more passes with the soapy wet 1000 grit, and a few more spots come up. LIKE OH NO. Damn. And I was nearly done. This was a transition area in the shape of the body. Not unlike a car. You try to load up paint and clear in those areas, but the never end up with as much material as flat areas. I was sick to my stomach. But I just touched it up with the paint, let it dry a week, re-cleared the entire body, with 6 fat coats. I'm praying there's enough clear to rub back. But after a couple days now, I do have a pretty flat surface and it seems shiny as hell already. Also, side benefit from taking it down 3 times, it's super flat;-) So there's hardly any orange peel at all this time. Just barely feel it on the surface. I wonder if Nitro lacquer is thinner than regular automotive stuff. I've used automotive stuff before and never had this sort of trouble??
not sure on the nitro lauquer clear, sounds lie it might be thinner if its got lauquer in it,i used high solid on the nova and it seems thick with 4 coats, ive seen on here that wet sanding your clear and then reclearing does do a nicer job so u should be good this time,i wanted to do that to the nova but time and expence didnt alow this time but im not done yet, lol,tc and good luck
TheRickfix Oh yeah, you come out with a hell of a nice finish if you take it down a couple of times in between clear coats. I just hadn't planned on the third time was all;-) I was so choked Rick. But yes I can see how this would be a huge deterrent on an entire car. Wet sand, clear, wet sand clear - repeat - rinse. Lots of material gets used that way!!! And it takes forever...hahaha
Beautiful shine Rick!
There is no hiding when you are that shiny!! Awesome work from way back at the very beginning Rick........My hat is off to you!!
