    Here's some affiliate links to the video gear I use from Ready Made R/C:
    1.3GHz video transmitters (I use 200, 400, 800, and 1500mW on various planes) goo.gl/Mhq6TW
    I recommend this receiver to go with them. I use an older Racewood type they used to sell, but these are supposed to be at least as good with the same Comtech tuners in them. Apparently Racewood is no longer in business, so here's what replaced them: goo.gl/xC2RLx
    I use this 8dbi Patch Antenna, it has been my go-to antenna for a long time now, for years! lol I've been out more then 10 miles using one of these and the 800mW vtx listed above: goo.gl/hGmcNS
    On the transmitter side, the stock dipoles that come with them work pretty good together with that patch, but if you want slightly better performance and less weight/drag, consider these: goo.gl/CPuFGf

    Great video Keith. Love the new perspective. This little plane seems like a really nice all around flyer, like a mini Skywalker.

      Yeah, it definitely screams out Skywalker, or something you'd expect from Volantex... lol

      @@bonafidepirate yes but its the same price as a 1900 skywalker. I can get a 1600 ranger with motor and servos and speedy way cheaper.

    The Esky is basically the same as the AeroScout RTF except that it needs you to buy a receiver and has less features. In addition to this build review there are a cast of thousands of other reviews of the Esky. However, I have yet to see anyone that explains anything about the receiver installation, or the necessity of the receiver to match the transmitter or the potential for all manner of incompatibility of size, or fit, or anything else that might create a woops, this won't work. Hence, if I had it to over, I would wait for the next available RTF (Ready to Fly) AeroScout.
    Further the AeroScout has a safe, intermediate, and advanced mode. This doesn't appear to be the case with the Esky. Should you make a mistake and end up in a "Kennedy Death Spiral" just flip the safe mode switch and the Aeroscout will level out. Do you think that might matter to you?
    I bought the Esky because I already have a transmitter and 2200 battery. I didn't think I would need a receiver. I now have a receiver on order. But is it the right receiver for the Spektrum DXe Transmitter from my first AeroScout that flew away? My bad! With all the wires that need to be connected and an antenna that needs to do the antenna thing without interference from the motor, battery, servos, etc., why does no one explain the receiver installation procedure?
    Just two more issues. A BTF (Build to Fly) Plane will cost more money like buying "Ala-Carte" at a restaurant. Worse, you may find that you need a "ninth degree black belt" in RC Electronics to figure out what is needed and how to install it. Even worse still, when you find just what you need, you could well discover the item has been discontinued or can't be shipped till flying season is over.

      This is all basic R/C stuff that you really should know and understand before building up a model to start flying, or even picking a model out and ordering it. I know everyone has to start somewhere, and anyone that doesn't understand the simplest basics of an R/C model really needs to find a local guy willing to help, and flying club to visit, or even just a quick stop by a local hobby store with a few questions. It will pay off hugely as far as easing your transition into the hobby. The same guy with zero experience in the hobby that buys the RTF AeroScout and heads out to a field to fly it, will probably not have any more success than a guy that buys the Esky ARF and has to start figuring out what gear he needs to complete it. In fact, the second guy that bought the ARF will be armed with a bit more info by the time he gets it done than the guy that opened the box, charged the battery, and takes off. ;) My channel is not geared towards beginners in the hobby, I've never made videos catered to that skill level. Look at my later videos with this same little plane, I have it flying medium range FPV with a full iNav setup. (GPS, current sensor, OSD, autopilot, etc.) There are lots of good resources out there for absolute beginners, but those I mentioned above are a great place to start and get some hands on experience. Having a skilled pilot to help you get started is, in my opinion, the best way to get into the hobby and save the expensive and frustrating mishaps that will come with going it alone.

    • @bonafidepirate
      @bonafidepirate  Před 5 lety

      It's an old Android phone that's re-purposed as an IP camera using an app, it runs 24/7 and I can access it from anywhere to keep an eye on things in my shop when I'm away, or even just in the house. With 3D printers running and lipos charging, you never know! lol I'm not sure what the flashing was about though, apparently it's IR light, I can't see it but the camera can. Maybe IR autofocus or something?

    Hey I just got my Nano Talon, I had to take it appart to move the elevator hinges closer because I didn't have throw. Also, there was almost no wind and I was getting danced around. I'm kind of disappointed, did you encounter any of these issues?

    • @bonafidepirate
      @bonafidepirate  Před 5 lety

      No mine flew great out of the box. I never changed the throw on the tail surfaces. I found the ailerons had a bit too much throw once I moved away from the stick stabilizer and reduced the throw with the linkages, but it was mostly so my old Storm OSD that I put in it could cope better... lol

    HI, ii'm trying to buy my first proper RC plane and really have no idea about chargers, batteries and transmiters. Would you be able to send a bang good link to the products you suggest, it would help me out A LOT. My other option is buy the ready to fly kit Hobbyzone AeroScout RC Plane, RTF Mode 2" , what are your thoughts? A kit or buy parts from Banggood. thanks! (an aussie from downunder)

    Really liking this one..Almost a bush style with those wheels,and maybe long range without..;)

    • @bonafidepirate
      @bonafidepirate  Před 5 lety +1

      Yeah I agree, it's got a nice Skywalker/bushplane/ultralight feel to it. Belly landing shouldn't be hard to do either if you wanted efficiency. You might want to pull the top part of the nose gear out too to save some dead weight, which would be a bit destructive... lol I don't think you can get it out without pulling the plywood plate out first. If you really want to tear into it, you could probably ditch that whole plate and move the servos farther back, and gain a lot of room in the fuse for other gear and batteries. I'll leave this one alone and fly it a while before doing anything that drastic though. ;) Honestly I think it would be most fun with a light weight simple FPV setup for some close range flying and touch and goes on the gear.

      lol I keep telling myself this will be my fun LOS plane, but who knows... ;) I've been wanting something just to fly for fun, I miss the old days when that's all I had. I can't deny the fact that it's almost begging for a light weight "simple" fpv setup though. It sure would be fun to shoot some touch and goes with it, and go buzzing around the fields late on a calm evening. I'm not ruling it out just yet... lol I will fly it LOS first though either way.

    • @bonafidepirate
      @bonafidepirate  Před 5 lety

      I think the specs claimed 15 minutes max, but I agree it should fly a bit longer than that, considering the size of the motor and battery, and what it weights. Unless it needs a bunch of throttle to stay in the air or something, but I don't think it should. It's pretty light and sleek, I'm expecting at least sporty performance out if. With any luck I'll get to fly it soon, but we do have another round of storms forecast for Saturday so who knows! lol
