- Members of the Meitei and Kuki communities are clashing over tribal rights in India's Manipur, with the conflict escalating into a series of horrific crimes against women.
Outrage swept across the country after video emerged of two women from the minority Kuki tribe being stripped naked by a mob of the majority Meitei tribal group in Manipur. The incident intensified tensions between the two communities - and prompted more women to report such assaults.

Meitei women folks, the meira paibis were directly involved in most of these horrific incidents including the one the mobs paraded two women naked. The meira paibis stopped the security forces, took out the tribal women and the two men (father and brother of one of the woman, killed by the mob) and handed them to their men. In one incident, the meira paibis tell their men to rape a tribal woman. There is video evidence. The mob killed the husband and his mother on the road. Meira paibis also stopped an ambulance carrying an injured 7yo, the kids mother and another woman. The three were burned alive inside an ambulance!! These are the ones that they themselves recorded and we got to know about. Imagine how many such incidents are that that will never surface. Horrible people.

Sadly dw has not looked at the history of Manipur. The Kukis nagas and metis are 3 tribal groups that have had a number of conflicts in the past 20 years. Its one of the poorest states in india and the police are from the local communities, are few in number, and side with thier ethnic background. In addition Manipur is where india connects to mianmar and opium trafficking and production has increased in recent times, along with efforts to shut it down. This conflict runs deep and unfortunately the women suffer in civil uprisings. The government is ignoring the issue as the tribes are now separated, but are heavily armed with some 3000 guns and 600,000 rounds of amunition in circulation from various armories.
It is wrong to portray this as a rogue gang of thugs raping and pillaging while the government does nothing. The heart of the conflict is the constitutional ban on the sale of hill lands to the valley people, and the efforts to overturn it.

The violence in Manipur is not permissible n needs to be condemned. Horrific incidents have happened n effected both the communities deeply. The action on the ground by the government is also questionable.

unfortunately Kukis have consistently maintained a very violent history.
They fought with all the other tribes around them at some point of time. Earlier it was the Brits, Bengalis, Nagas & now the Meiteis.....
