Thanks Bushr, I studied at home we were quarantined at the time. Regarding pathoma, only if you follow up with Duke, you don't have to do the book. But even so, I still found reviewing the book helpful in the end

The way you approached that uw question is pretty solid. No wonder you scored so high and only needed one qbank. Can you reveal what kind of study you were in medical school? Honestly an avg student can’t score this high unless they do 3 qbanks + zanki + uwfaps+ bnb. Do you do Anki+ sketchy+ pathoma+ bnb + uw in 3 months? That’s extraordinary if you did. Not likely for an avg student and score this high
Hi thank you so much! Well, I can’t deny that building a good foundation during medical school was key to a smoother dedicated. So I was mainly focusing on learning school material well because we had a ranking system so I was trying to rank top 5. But again, my school exams and method was no where near Step 1 , so if you’re in a US medical school you should be even better prepared which is why I said you can do what I did in 3-4 months. Thank you for such a helpful video! Would you recommend having an overall longer study period (15 months) but with a much shorter dedicated (3-weeks), or a relatively shorter study period (8 months) with a 3-month dedicated?

Hi Mariam, yes I started out random all the way, this is the best simulation. And as you go you will learn through the explanations; this will be your learning tool. As you approach the end of Uworld you’d have already gone through a pass of BnB/pathoma hand in hand, so they complement one another. So yes, do it timed and random! And congrats on being done with Step 2

@@m-5568 Yes the former is better. Because for example when you start system-wise and choose Cardio, you’d be able to figure out the correct answer assuming it’s a cardio question, this way you’d be compromising your reasoning abilities that help you diagnose and figure out the answer in a clinical vignette. You need to train this skill from the start. That’s how the real deal is, a mixed and random. Don’t get discouraged if that means lower scores at the beginning, but trust me you’ll learn through questions and explanations and your scores will improve by the end of prep, especially if you’re doing bnb/pathoma hand in hand. This is called reverse learning.

When I got the possibility to answer a question just by reading the two last sentences, I sometimes feel like I have to read the question from the beginning to be sure... which can lead lead me to spend the same amount of time if didn’t read the last sentences. What do you suggest in this case?
Hi, the purpose of reading the last two sentences is to reach the correct diagnosis early on. You don’t have to answer the question just from that (it’s sometimes not enough), rather you go ahead and read the rest of the stem and highlight the abnormal findings, because these too can have additional information that can set apart a correct answer choice from a distractor. But when you actually go ahead and read the rest of the stem you kinda feel comfortable that you already have the diagnosis in mind and are thinking from that aspect, instead of feeling lost from the start trying to figure out the diagnosis. Hi Usama, well anything is possible as long as your scores improve the more you solve and the more you do pathoma and bnb then you are on the right track. You should reach a well above average percentile by the end of prep for a 250+. All the best!

Hi, my total dedicated prep time was about 3.5 months, for phase 1 it was 2 months and the rest for phase 2. I studied about 10 hours a day if I stay home, sometimes I couldn't if I had other things to do, in which case try to do anki in the middle of anything. All the best.

Thanks Bushr! so new cards are ones you are seeing for the first time and review cards are those you saw before but anki shows them to you to for review so you don't forget them. the interval until you see review cards is built on your forgetting which anki has an algorithm for.

If it's your first round of UW and without going through the FA yet Approx how much time it takes to complete a block ? While annotating the explanations some where as well.
Just wondering if uworld qbank percentages hold any weight. What was your final uw qbank percentage? You said your percentage wasn’t as high as some of your friends and you still did incredibly well. Just trying to see if there is any correlation. Were your practice nbmes and uw assessments predictive?
overall percentage is not accurate, but your percentages on individual blocks towards the end of preparation might be representative. so for instance when I started out early on I used to get 60s-70s then by middle of dedicated I'd fall in the 90s. so my overall percentage on first pass was around 76%, which does not reflect my score if you were to look up correlation tables. Other people who scored like me had an overall percentage of late 80s-90s, which is why I said not to worry about it if you used UW as a learning tool before reviewing high yield material. On the other hand, my practice nbmes and uw assessments were indeed predictive because I did those after I was done with Uw/ learning content from pathoma and bnb. So the point is if you start assessing yourself before good review, your scores would appear deflated (like people taking baseline nbmes for instance or in my case using uw as a learning tool)

thank you Noor this is great! is there a reason to go through BnB, pathoma, and sketchy simultaneous like you did in your schedule? Would you prefer the method you've done or tackling it by system? Like start with neuro, going through BNB, anki, pathoma, etc, and then move on to renal for example.
So I was actually doing a system per week from BnB and pathoma. But at the same time doing UWorld random timed to simulate the real test. So that by the end of prep you've already been exposed to all questions of a particular system before even watching videos of that system; this is called reverse learning. So, if this week I'm doing cardio from bnb and pathoma, but at the same time doing UW random during this entire week, I'm getting exposed to questions from all systems (cardio, pulm, renal, repro, etc..). If next week I decide to do renal videos, I know in the back of my head what really is high yield based on questions I saw in my UWorld random session.

I've been away from basic sciences for a long time, so solving the uworld questions on random has been a nightmare lol. thank you for your material! also, I'm using cramfighter to create a schedule, but it's sorting things out strictly by system. It started me out with Neuro, with BNB and pathoma, along with UW and Anki. Thinking of going through all systems similarly. I do find it kinda hard to grasp the amount of information watching all those videos in a 2 month period.

This video has been beyond helpful & I’m very grateful to you. I have heard again & again that every word in Uworld is golden so I’m wondering do you take down notes from the explanations that wasn’t the key point tested. For example in the explanation for neonatal hypoglycaemia in a hyperglycemic mother, there’s a picture that basically states in the first trimester of hyperglycaemia, that babies at risk for congenital heart disease, neural tube defects, small left colon syndrome & spontaneous abortions while hyperglycaemia in the 2nd & 3rd trimester, causes fetal hyperglycaemia & hyperinsulinemia (which was the main point needed for the Q) Would you try to remember details like “small left colon syn”? (Something I never came across before).

Hi It’s my pleasure! Now at this point I need you to focus on learning the material very well the first time around, this is your chance to master the concepts. You can also watch BnB or Pathoma videos for the systems you’re taking at the moment and the ones you finished. Then about 6 months prededicated, purchase a UW subscription and go through it slowly for the systems you finished
Sometimes, in a question stem, if you don’t know the right range of TSH for example, you won’t be able to answer the question unless you check it. And this is time consuming. How did you manage the Lab values? Did you memorize them?
There’s a search bar inside the lab values you can quickly look them up. And even so I don’t remember actually checking them during the exam because the more you practice questions the more you get yourself used to the normal range. But some people memorize them through a specific anki deck but I didn’t do that.
Plz can you tell us more about the soze deck? Is it completely covering what BnB says? I heard its short and lacks some information what do you think? Thanks

The way you approached that uw question is pretty solid. No wonder you scored so high and only needed one qbank. Can you reveal what kind of study you were in medical school? Honestly an avg student can’t score this high unless they do 3 qbanks + zanki + uwfaps+ bnb. Do you do Anki+ sketchy+ pathoma+ bnb + uw in 3 months? That’s extraordinary if you did. Not likely for an avg student and score this high
Hi thank you so much! Well, I can’t deny that building a good foundation during medical school was key to a smoother dedicated. So I was mainly focusing on learning school material well because we had a ranking system so I was trying to rank top 5. But again, my school exams and method was no where near Step 1 , so if you’re in a US medical school you should be even better prepared which is why I said you can do what I did in 3-4 months. Hi Mariam, yes I started out random all the way, this is the best simulation. And as you go you will learn through the explanations; this will be your learning tool. As you approach the end of Uworld you’d have already gone through a pass of BnB/pathoma hand in hand, so they complement one another. So yes, do it timed and random! And congrats on being done with Step 2

@@m-5568 Yes the former is better. Because for example when you start system-wise and choose Cardio, you’d be able to figure out the correct answer assuming it’s a cardio question, this way you’d be compromising your reasoning abilities that help you diagnose and figure out the answer in a clinical vignette. You need to train this skill from the start. That’s how the real deal is, a mixed and random. Don’t get discouraged if that means lower scores at the beginning, but trust me you’ll learn through questions and explanations and your scores will improve by the end of prep, especially if you’re doing bnb/pathoma hand in hand. This is called reverse learning.
@@acingmedicine that definitely makes sense, I was just worried I won’t be applying knowledge if I’m answering questions without a knowledge base to start with and then I’d be wasting questions if that makes sense!

Fatima, it is organized by tags so you have to download the “hierarchical tags” add-on from anki web and study accordingly. From “browse” you can suspend the tags you don’t wanna study at the moment and unsuspend as you go

Can I ask, in block one, where you do 1 video of uworld and then go on to videos - you must have reviewed the explanations of correct and incorrect in uworld correct? didn't that take a long time? How did you do that PLUS videos?
Yeah that took a lot of time which is why I did it first thing in the morning. So I started off by reviewing the incorrects with the method used here czcams.com/video/UmXP_fDOPmg/video.html then I set a timer and quickly go over the corrects

When I got the possibility to answer a question just by reading the two last sentences, I sometimes feel like I have to read the question from the beginning to be sure... which can lead lead me to spend the same amount of time if didn’t read the last sentences. What do you suggest in this case?
Hi, the purpose of reading the last two sentences is to reach the correct diagnosis early on.
You don’t have to answer the question just from that (it’s sometimes not enough), rather you go ahead and read the rest of the stem and highlight the abnormal findings, because these too can have additional information that can set apart a correct answer choice from a distractor.
But when you actually go ahead and read the rest of the stem you kinda feel comfortable that you already have the diagnosis in mind and are thinking from that aspect, instead of feeling lost from the start trying to figure out the diagnosis. Check my last video I explain how to approach questions

Hi Usama, well anything is possible as long as your scores improve the more you solve and the more you do pathoma and bnb then you are on the right track. You should reach a well above average percentile by the end of prep for a 250+. All the best!

Great score! Congrats! May I ask that how much time did you take for preparation? Time for 1st phase of prep and duration of your dedicated prep? How many hours per day? How to maintain balance b/w step 1 prep and school? I would be highly obliged if you share your wisdom and experience on these challenges. Hi, my total dedicated prep time was about 3.5 months, for phase 1 it was 2 months and the rest for phase 2. I studied about 10 hours a day if I stay home, sometimes I couldn't if I had other things to do, in which case try to do anki in the middle of anything. All the best.

Thanks Bushr! so new cards are ones you are seeing for the first time and review cards are those you saw before but anki shows them to you to for review so you don't forget them. the interval until you see review cards is built on your forgetting which anki has an algorithm for.

If it's your first round of UW and without going through the FA yet Approx how much time it takes to complete a block ? While annotating the explanations some where as well.
It takes around 3-4 hours if it’s your first time. That should drop to 2 hours or less later in prep

Just wondering if uworld qbank percentages hold any weight. What was your final uw qbank percentage? You said your percentage wasn’t as high as some of your friends and you still did incredibly well. Just trying to see if there is any correlation. Were your practice nbmes and uw assessments predictive?
overall percentage is not accurate, but your percentages on individual blocks towards the end of preparation might be representative. so for instance when I started out early on I used to get 60s-70s then by middle of dedicated I'd fall in the 90s. so my overall percentage on first pass was around 76%, which does not reflect my score if you were to look up correlation tables. Other people who scored like me had an overall percentage of late 80s-90s, which is why I said not to worry about it if you used UW as a learning tool before reviewing high yield material. On the other hand, my practice nbmes and uw assessments were indeed predictive because I did those after I was done with Uw/ learning content from pathoma and bnb. So the point is if you start assessing yourself before good review, your scores would appear deflated (like people taking baseline nbmes for instance or in my case using uw as a learning tool)

thank you Noor this is great! is there a reason to go through BnB, pathoma, and sketchy simultaneous like you did in your schedule? Would you prefer the method you've done or tackling it by system? Like start with neuro, going through BNB, anki, pathoma, etc, and then move on to renal for example.
So I was actually doing a system per week from BnB and pathoma. But at the same time doing UWorld random timed to simulate the real test. So that by the end of prep you've already been exposed to all questions of a particular system before even watching videos of that system; this is called reverse learning. So, if this week I'm doing cardio from bnb and pathoma, but at the same time doing UW random during this entire week, I'm getting exposed to questions from all systems (cardio, pulm, renal, repro, etc..). If next week I decide to do renal videos, I know in the back of my head what really is high yield based on questions I saw in my UWorld random session.

I've been away from basic sciences for a long time, so solving the uworld questions on random has been a nightmare lol. thank you for your material! also, I'm using cramfighter to create a schedule, but it's sorting things out strictly by system. It started me out with Neuro, with BNB and pathoma, along with UW and Anki. Thinking of going through all systems similarly. I do find it kinda hard to grasp the amount of information watching all those videos in a 2 month period.

This video has been beyond helpful & I’m very grateful to you. I have heard again & again that every word in Uworld is golden so I’m wondering do you take down notes from the explanations that wasn’t the key point tested. For example in the explanation for neonatal hypoglycaemia in a hyperglycemic mother, there’s a picture that basically states in the first trimester of hyperglycaemia, that babies at risk for congenital heart disease, neural tube defects, small left colon syndrome & spontaneous abortions while hyperglycaemia in the 2nd & 3rd trimester, causes fetal hyperglycaemia & hyperinsulinemia (which was the main point needed for the Q) Would you try to remember details like “small left colon syn”? (Something I never came across before).

Sometimes, in a question stem, if you don’t know the right range of TSH for example, you won’t be able to answer the question unless you check it. And this is time consuming.
How did you manage the Lab values? Did you memorize them?
There’s a search bar inside the lab values you can quickly look them up. And even so I don’t remember actually checking them during the exam because the more you practice questions the more you get yourself used to the normal range. But some people memorize them through a specific anki deck but I didn’t do that.

soze covers the most high yield that dr Ryan says and I found it enough for me. it lacks the basic pharmacology chapter however, so open FA for that.
