  • This is the Toyota Auris, the Japanese brand’s alternative to cars like the Volkswagen Golf and Vauxhall Astra. It’s up against stern competition, so how does it compare? Join me as I take a look around the interior, try out the back seats, asses the boot space and take it out for a drive to find out whether it’s got what it takes to fight for class honours.

      carwow, Auris is based on the Latin word for 'gold', as in _aurum._ The googling is a bit cliché imo. Adding Corolla isn't entirely correct either.

    My 2003 Corolla 1.6 petrol never lets me down. Basic maintenance and this is it. We just did a 800km trip in two days and the car is 100% fine. Not the sportiest, nor am I a racing driver. It just gets the job done. And the ride is smooth, seats are comfortable and its overall quite good. Engine can be dull but rev it up to 4000rpm and its fun to drive.

    I`ve a 2016 hybrid, absolutely fantastic car. Zero road tax, 60MPG, with all the toys I need. Just had a major service by Toyota and two new front tyres, and an MOT collection and delivery: £570. No fault s at all in the five years I`ve had it. Being this reliable is why Toyota can give a FREE full warranty for ten years or 100,00 miles.

    sorry matt, i'm driving an auris hybrid, MY2015 and honestly, i got the car for my mom, thought it was that boring. After driving it for 5000 km on all possible roads i can say, the car is not boring, it just does not encourage you to be a hooligan. Waft along is the theme here. Of course there have been racey situations in traffic, yes the E-CVT and the engine were not happy about it, but the driving dynamics were excellent.
    just because a car inspires you to be civilized in traffic does not mean it's boring. in the case of the auris hybrid if the driver knows what he wants and how to get it, driving will be fully enjoyable.

Spark plugs at 120k Miles, coolant at 150 k Miles/12 years, brake fluid every 2-10 years, and air filters every 30k Miles/2 years. Hybrid battery has 10 years unlimited mileage Wich never fail in 99.999% case and even replacement cost only €2350 new battery that last over a decade.

    • @rondhole
      @rondhole Před 4 lety +4

      @@cismay1270 Good car for owning is not the same as borrowing like the reviewer. Reliability is no. 1 Priority for most intelligent people. Auris hybrid handling is well enough, 10y warranty on the battery and only need regular oil change. Almost as agile and supple as Golf but way more reliable than anything. Ford focus and Opel Astra are not as supple adsorbing bumpy roads. Mazda 3 and Hyundai i30 with manual transmissions are also better than any european cars in terms of reliability. Honda is plagued with its Turbo engines Oil dilution problem.

    Great review. The best channel on CZcams. I just have a suggestion, please include the cars’ reliability within your reviews. This can be obtained from past consumer feedbacks and reliability records. Many people are after the fun to drive feel and horse power and torque while most people do consider the car’s reliability when purchasing new cars. They are more interested in comfort, low fuel consumption, low cost of service and more importantly Reliability. Thanks again Mat

      Why does this car get so much stick😂 we bought one as a family car (I’m 25) on the Toyota reputation alone. The car will outlive the planet, doesn’t look bad and you never really have to worry about stuff breaking. Perfect for us that are on a budget and don’t have expenditure for expensive overpriced crap that inevitably have costly problems (but if people are honest who does have this spare cash). Toyota takes this out of the equation, leaves you with money to splash elsewhere😀

    Tip from an Auris driver: never, ever use the horn. A mobility scooter horn is ten times louder. A clown's car horn gets more respect. In a really scary situation (involving, say, an 18 wheeler, like the one in the film Duel) it's probably safer to jump out of the car than try and get the other guy's attention by using the horn.

    So, I've got a Toyota Auris Touring Sports 1.8 for 15k euros with a bit over 70k kilometres. It's the lounge version (the most equipped) and the cup holder in the back doesn't have that issue.

    I've got a mk 5 golf GT and I love the car its so nice to drive.
    ive had the car a year and its already cost me £ 2000 in repair bills such as the timing chain.
    And now the timing chain seems to of gone again the car only has 50000 miles and has been well looked after, I can not understand why VW are now so unreliable.
    I was looking to get a Astra CDti on a 15 plate but ive been reading horror stories of people having timing chain issues with that car as well.
    looks like its a dull Toyota for me or if any one else has any suggestions on a reliable fun to drive hatch back
