  • This is the new Toyota Corolla! It’s fair to say previous generations of the Corolla (or Auris, as it used to be called) were known for being good value for money, but relatively dull. However, it seems Toyota is looking to put that reputation to bed with the all-new Corolla! But does the interior and drivability match up to the exciting new exterior style, especially when you consider it costs slightly more than a VW Golf or Ford Focus? Join Mat for his in-depth review to find out!

Toyota have been killing it since the moment they started selling outside of Asia. Their reputation for reliablity isn't just fan boy talk. They have been causing problems for American and European car makers since the 70s along with Honda. Toyota got a lot of good press too from the invincible Hilux from Top Gear they even used it as a model name in their newer versions. Toyota also has Scotty Kilmer bigging them up you won't find a mechanic who doesn't say Toyota and Honda are reliable and they are loved by Taxi drivers in the UK. Its all for a reason and its because Toyota are the kings of reliability. Even the hot headed boy racers loved the Toyota Supra and MR2 not because it was superior stock because many cars matched and beat them stock but because they could handle remaps and tuning far better than other cars and would reliabiliy go far beyond what they were intended for. Toyota have been killing it since before half the world was even born.

In Greece, an Astra is more expensive to buy than a Ceed. Maybe it differs where you're from. But even if you get a good deal on one, and it turns out to be cheaper than a KIA, Opels are considered notoriously unrielable over here. So again, a Ceed would be much more economical in the long run. Especially if you consider the 7 year warranty. I had a KIA for 7+years and the warranty covered absolutely everything. I only had to pay for servicing the car (again, much cheaper than Opel) and for new tires.

Great video, as always. Thank you. I really like the new Corolla styling (look). I've first seen one on the motorway while passing it and I've literally slowed down for it to catch up with me and have a 2'nd look. I was genuinely surprised when I've seen the Corolla badge. My 1'st ever brand new car was a 2007 Corolla (US) that I really enjoyed for a while. The 2L version sounds tempting and the 50+ mpg economy... wow, really reminds me of a Prius I drove for a bit. As much as I like my 2L automatic diesel BMW for what it is as a package, the 35(ish) mpg isn't at all very pleasing in comparison. Kind regards.

Great review and on the strength of this I bought an Icon Tech Corolla two weeks ago (with the Carwow discount, thank you very much). Generally a very good car. However, there is a fault with the Nearside Front Sensor (it keeps activating even when there is nothing in front of the vehicle). This is irritating at best and dangerously distracting when driving at worst. The battle I'm in now is to get Toyota GB and the Dealership to stop blaming each other for the appalling level of customer service I am now subject to in trying to get this problem resolved on a brand new car. It's enough to make me want to give the car back and revert back to VW. Apparently I cannot do that now though (even though I've had the car for less than 14 days) as I have highlighted the issue and they are "doing their best" to resolve it.

Toyota's hybrid battery lasts about 2 km-s in the city before IC engine kicks in. It doesn't look like much but charging time is also quite quick (thanks to the size of battery) and soon enough EV mode kicks in again. This review is about hybrid which you can't charge yourself. Not at home, not at work. Only IC engine charges cars battery. This is most common hybrid system used by Toyota. And it works, I have Rav4, and average consumption is 6.8 l/100 km, 100% city driving. Before with CRV average was 11+ l/100 km. For me it's huge difference.
