New Honda Civic v Toyota Corolla v Kia Ceed 2023

  • Are you looking for an all-new family hatchback? Well don’t just automatically go for a VW or Ford - we’ve got our hands on three other options that may be a better choice for you!
Right here we’ve got the new Toyota Corolla, the Kia Ceed and the Honda Civic, and we’re about to find out just how good these Far East exports are.
When it comes to looks, it’s fair to say the Civic is the stand-out contender here. It’s evolved a fair bit from the previous model and it’s fair to say it’s looking better than ever! That’s not to say the Kia or Toyota look bad, but we think the Civic stands out here.
On the inside, both Honda and Toyota have pushed on from their previous editions, with good quality materials throughout the cabin and more modern looks. Unfortunately, the Kia looks pretty similar to the old model, although it’s definitely not the worst interior we’ve seen!
In terms of engine choices, there’s not too much to choose from. The Kia comes with only one choice, a 1.5-litre turbo petrol that drives the front wheels and puts down 160hp. Both the Toyota & Honda are hybrids, with the former coming with a choice of either a 1.8-litre or 2-litre petrol engine that can deliver 120hp and 181hp respectively. As for the Honda, it comes with a 2-litre petrol that powers the electric motor, which can put down 184hp.
So which of these is right for you? You’ll need to stick with Mat in this all-new group test to find out!

I've had the Corolla hatchback (US 2.0L version) for 2 years now and it's been lovely owning this car. It looks stunning and it has fairly nice driving dynamics. however if you're someone who has a family or more than one friend, they're probably not gonna have the best time in the back especially if they're tall. It does have very good storage but the rear passenger room is almost non-existent especially if the passenger is tall. I happen to work at a Honda dealership as well and I'd say the civic is a little more luxuries especially if you choose the higher trims. It has probably the best interior design in the segment and it drives... Maturely. I don't know how to exactly describe it. It drives really nice and it handles great but it's not as classic as the Corolla (And the US version of the corolla is considerably faster than the US civic). If you need a cool fun little hatchback for yourself the Corolla is the way to go but if you need something more family oriented then the civic is the clear winner.

I bought the Toyota Corolla!😁 3 months later and no complaints. It's good for 4 people not 5. I mostly drive alone, so no issues on my end.
Edit: For those asking what complaints I should have after 3 months. I was referring to the build quality and living with the car. I was skeptical about the small boot/trunk space, but I love the fact that the rear seats fold completely flat. No squeaks or random rattles like my previous VW Polo.

    • @Sto79Be
      @Sto79Be Před rokem +12

Why do people always say “no complaints” or “no problems so far” after such little time or miles. If complaints were common after an average of only 3 months for a car manufacturer, they’d be out of business fast. Give it 5-10 years of no complaints and I’ll be mildly impressed.

I got it almost for free, changed everything on the suspension, the exhaust and the cluctch. Did another 60 000 kms without any problem. 22 000 kms between oil changes, no oil loss. Average consumption 5.5 l/100km. Want to change it only because of rust. A rusty car is a deth trap, and not nice to look at.

I bought a 2018 Honda Accord Hybrid in 2018, brand spanking new! Driven it for some time and got used to it, then one day I drove a regular automatic car. Felt really clunky and sluggish! Because the Honda drives on electric motor, it is so damn smooth(it is essentially an electric car with on-board generator). Then I drove a dual-clutch automatic car. I was wondering if the transmission was broken lol. I was genuinely concerned about how the car was shifting gears! If you try the new Honda hybrid system, I guarantee you'll love it! And it's very fuel efficient. Even in sports mode when you drive it like a maniac it still gets 25+ MPG US. Normal driving would go even up to 45MPG easy! Bought few months apart. Getting Ceed in comparable equipment (with automatic and LED package) would've cost me 2700 more (but they were out of stock, otherwise I would have taken it). • @christophe9602

Went shopping for a family car with bigger boot earlier this year, so I was comparing the estate versions. and when comparing the Corolla TS GR Sport to the Ceed SW GT-line (highest trims, and biggest engines cause I'm a sucker for that) the Ceed won hands down for boot space , comfort and every option except wireless apple car play vs price (at least in Belgium market trims). Also did the math quite extensively and the premium for the Corolla being a hybrid just really wasn't worth it in any reasonable term (especially when taking taxes for a 2.0l into account). But that may depend on your country of course.
Unfortunately the Honda Civic e:HEV wasn't available, because that looks SHARP. But it would have probably been eliminated because of the fact there's no estate version. And 400l of boot space, while a lot for a C class hatch, just isn't all that much when you're hauling around a buggy for 2 kids in addition to... well anything else (that's barely 50l more than my Dacia Sandero which was being replaced).
So I got my full option Ceed SW GT-line, with a decent discount for being a demo car, two weeks ago and so far, no regrets.

civic is prob very good. I have the Honda HRV 2017 for 6 years and no problems, with routine oil maintenance and battery replacement.

The 0-60 time of the civic is almost unbelievable.
It's more than 1 second faster.
The only reason I can think of is that they measured it in the normal/comfort mode.
Seems weird to me as a better 0-60 (although not very important imo) can give a extra pro to a family that is looking for their next car.

That civic is honest to goodess quick. All three are great choices but the Honda is just a better all arounder.

We alove attainable cars for most of us poor people… I love the reviews Matt and Carwow. Please reviews more like this not just supercars.
Can we have group tests hatchbacks, CUV’s and estates and SUV’s review these in groups with Germany brands.
I feel like the kia is the best as its the cheapest as things get more expensive the kia has more bang for your buck.

HP puts them out of most average persons income
