I want a dial on all my laptops
Everyone does!
i love you dude.
Can u please review hp omen 17 2021?
I like your shirt…. 😊😊😊😊

in my opinion, asus is probably the most innovative mainstream windows laptop manufacturer right now. they always come out with super innovative stuff, and on the lower end their stuff is also very good value
I'm giving it to Lenovo this year. Their budget stuff is simply so good, Thinkpads keep getting better, and the thermals leave little to be desired. Those $450 Ideapads might be one of the best deals in tech right now: I have a friend who plays Rainbow Six Siege on one of those laptops without any issue.
What's your opinion on Dell?
I'd say both are tied for top tier laptop manufacturers.
Asus is always doing something to push Windows and the specs for a reasonable price considering the tech, and Lenovo is sticking to software to optimize hardware as best as it can for really competitive prices.
They're both S tier right now
I'm giving that one to Framework. Asus is a solid #2 though, good call.
Agree on the innovation part, but disagree with the low end part.
The TUF laptop series is objectively terrible.
Finally, ASUS has refined their new ideas for touchpad and so on properly.
Didn't they pioneer the dual screen laptop too?
Finally, Apple will study this technology and invent it 5 years later.

For me the dial would be most useful as an app switcher, essentially behaving like alt-tab
Now that's a great idea! It could just be my laptop's trackpad, but I never really liked the 3-finger side swipe gesture. Having it on a dial would be awesome!

These laptops looked amazing. Waiting for the review.
Thanks Dave! Looking forward to your reviews of these. May Asus release these in October. Was eyeing the StudioBook, but the VivoBook Pro might work for me too.
I have the Vivobook Pro x14 and love it. The size of the 14" screen is perfect for me and only weighs 4.35 pounds with the charger.
I got the silver one. And oh man I do love this machine.
Thank you for your video I know it's an old one of your video but I still watch the stuff because I like watching good product videos.
Thank you for your hard work and you are wonderful comments about the products you have put on your videos.
Love the dial idea! I have a drawing screen tablet that came with a dial as part of its physical controls and I have set it up so I can use it even when I'm not drawing, with other software. SO useful! Nice to see a laptop get one, and about time we got to see some ACTUAL innovation and something NEW in our tech rather than the boring old, normal, tiny iterations on previous models we've been stuck with for ages now.
Love what Asus is doing with their trackpads. I use the Zenbook 14 with the screen pad trackpad.
Good to see physical dial in laptop for content creation for precise adjustments, and I like your T shirt
Oh wow! I can’t wait for the full review of that Studiobook 16!
Amazing Dave, love your videos!
Finally decided on a legion 5 after watching your review. Great videos. Amazing work.
Of course, after a ton of research and deliberation about which laptop to buy for my architecture studies, the seemingly perfect laptop that checks every box gets announced. And here I was all excited about my legion 7 that’s arriving tomorrow…
Loved this review thanks dave
I like how more & more Windows laptops have 16:10 instead of 16:9 display
yessss i hope this becomes a standard just like 8gb ram minimum and an ssd. 16:10 just makes SENSE
@@arijeanz Yup. Me too
It doesn't really make a huge difference, probably the only thing it would do is provide some more space for the Keyboard and Trackpad, since the lower half has to cover the taller display completely.
Not only that but manufacturers are finally giving close to or full 100% sRGB screens for devices under $800.
Yes. 16:9 was a waste of time. Never liked it on a laptop.

That is cool! Glad to see some innovation in laptops.
This laptop checks all the boxes for content creators and more... What's impressive is that they managed to fit the dial AND a numpad in there... i find it a sad trend that more manufacturers are cutting out the numpad... It would be interesting to see if they also have built-in software to allow custom macros for the keyboard.

Umm ok lol
Like the Asus Cinedash. I really loved that dial. You can change the audio or mute it. That was so handy.
In-pad dial is nice. I'd have put the corner switch on the top left corner so you can easily swipe your thumb from corner to dial area in one motion and use it. Potential for having two dials this way on both sides for a more ambidextrous design and extra functionality with multiple dials.
I love that Dave is experimenting with different video setups. But I have to say presenting without a table is really messy, he has to carry the laptops around and everything is moving, it’s uncomfortable to look at. Just my two cents, keep up the good work
You just spoke my mind. Our eyes are just used to his old setup.
I really love your content it's so clean and well presented, but I don't watch a lot because laptops are pretty stagnant most of the time. But this was a legitimately interesting product. This, the dual screen asus laptops and the custom Mac chips are the only things that get me to click.

I love that they have separate buttons below the touchpad. One of the most useful things I miss from my Thinkpad.
Ooh, if they ever make one with 2 dials, and install Rekordbox or Serato, could we end up with a DJ focused laptop? that would be too damn cool
Use the dial with one hand, a mouse scroll wheel with the other?
Wow, that's awesome! 😍
Now I wish they would just make a laptop that combines this dial with a second screen like in the Zephyrus Duo.
Looking great, Dave!
Man I'm so in love with the keyboard of the Vivobook..

Yeah, but the supplies are really holding things back though. I tried some light 3D work recently for a video and my computer was struggling but I can't buy a GPU unless I spend an arm and a leg...
My man Dave watching Spa Q2 on the laptop, didn't know he was a fellow F1 fan!!
This is 100% exactly what I've been lookingfor for years!
I'd love to see more reviews of productivity laptops that have a cool design (xps, mac pro and alternatives).
The dial looks so cool! What if they made a sort of hybrid version reminiscent of iPod dials of old that would be installed on the trackpad, capturing the best parts of each of these implementations? It could have the tactility of the dial, but when off, it could just be a part of the trackpad, w/some sort of gesture for activation. IMO, knowing when your thumb is on the dial or not can make or break its utility.
Ummm, that's exactly what the VivoBook's dial is. The non-mechanical iPod dial was just a shaped touchpad.
And while capacitive dials are nice as all, they really like the tactility that a mechanical one offers.
@@tams805 sure, I think we agree? It looked to me like the digital dial would be hard to detect w/o looking at it, but maybe it's not
Hi dave!
It's been observed that the devices sent to CZcamsrs perform better and has less bugs than what we purchase. I noticed it with the X flow13 and scar 15 Advantage Edition.
Can you please check this by reviewing a laptop that you've bought from retail?
the content creator AND stealth profile gaming laptop I was looking for! ( but not necessarily in that order)
Thank you for the information Sir, God bless
Your use-cases for the dial are why I actually like more buttons on my mice. My mouse currently has
-buttons for volume control (I use this basically every few minutes to make minor adjustments without thinking about it)
-buttons for mouse sensitivity (pretty standard)
-push to talk key for certain games
-ultimate button for games like Overwatch
-melee button for basically any game
-the 7th slot for items in Minecraft (I have 8 on r and 9 on f), so that I never have to reach when switching between items.
Very interesting to hear, especially that point about minecraft (always gets very annoying reaching for that last item :D), tho I have a question. I've been using a mouse with 2 side buttons for a number of years now and always thought anything more would be far too fiddly to use due to how small they get, what's your experience with missclicks and general ergonomics of your mouse (also would be neat to know what it is)?
Same! In my case I have a logitech MX master2 (ik not great for gaming tho), and use gestures with the logitech options software. Having those extra functions is just great.
@@h.b.5577 My mouse has five buttons on the side that my thumb rests across. They each have a different shape to them, as they sort of curve across the side of the mouse under my thumb; it'd be pretty hard to get two of them confused.
The mouse speed, volume control, and ultimate button are all on the top; the former four are in pairs on either side of the mouse wheel, and the ultimate button is on the top left of lmb in a little cutout. Ever since putting it there years ago, I have never mis-clicked my ultimate like I did when it was bound to Q.
My Minecraft hotbar: Q,2,3,4,5,R,F,C,V
Remaped keys: drop item -> 1, swap hands -> X, zoom in -> mouse button 4.
Very good for PVP.

6:54 Gave me a lil' heart attack there Dave
This has to be the most unique feature I’ve seen on a laptop!. I personally would take the digital dial in the trackpad instead.
interesting design. 3 touch stripes carved deep into the deck, plus 2 speed selector buttons (slow, fast dial) could also be implemented, like in older wacoms, but done better. 3 sliders would take same space as one dial, and could organically match with the touchpad, like an extension of it.
Very innovative company asus is.. I have used its three laptops from very low to moderately high.. each one is just great according to the price and specs that they come with in the price range. Currently using its dual screen laptop zenbook. Not only it's look cool but screen comes in handy as well. Save me a lot of effort with windows+alt key.. I have almost forgot this combination.

I am actually waiting for high refresh 16:10 2k oled panel with good colour acuracy ....
That panel would be game changing for every creator who want a mobile editing machine without many compromises ....
Maybe only thing is the battery
@@Luke_4044 depends on the gpu, a laptop with that kind of specs will at least have an rtx 3050. The perfect panel you are talking about is the asus m16, 1440p 165hz 16:10 but its definitely not a portable laptop.

They could actually implement the dial technology in older models too just without the lights, which I think would be pretty cool

I have the ASUS Zenbook OLED 13 and I just love the display. It isnt 4k or 120hz but the colors are so great!
i like the dial- looks more like a desktop. :-) Maybe it's how nice it has been to use 13" laptops and their super light weight designs over the last 3-5 years, but going back to 15" and larger laptops feel like overload. I'll just plug into a 4k screen when I need it.
As a normal user/Gamer. I can tell you that the dail wheel would be wonderful for surfing the internet and reading. I can see myself using it for many things.

yo that belgian gp qualifying clip caught me off guard. more reasons to love u my man
These intros are evolving day by day
This is actually old one
what do you mean? He's been using this one for a long time now 🤔
😂 This intro is like 2 years old. An oldie but a goodie!
How is the creative line for ASUS? I have a Zephyrus M15 and it's fairly buggy. Some bugs can potentially damage the device (had it automatically wake up without the fan coming on multiple times, and only way to turn it off was a hard shutdown). My previous laptop was a Lenovo IdeaPad and while it wasn't the greatest, it's nowhere near as buggy.
Holy... This is so cool.
The intro never gets old!
The studio version sure looks sweet, but I've never seen an actual all-in one laptop for all my needs in terms of productivity AND entertainment. With the power hungry VR applications on the move this even becomes less likely.
But for certain professions + casual gaming it looks great and kinda affordable.
holy shit, Dave is a F1 fan ?
excelent idea of the dial!
I'm waiting for the new Vivobook Pro 16X review. Anyway, thank you for this video.
Those built-in dial in the trackpad, imagine if they add an x-axis haptic motor. It's a free real estate.
I wish windows laptop manufacturer is to start adding trackpad with haptic feedback, which i think should be given if they wanted to integrate numpad or digital dial into the trackpad.
It would be nicer, but I'd still take a physical numbpad over a haptic one.
I hope ASUS can really settle down a few innovative features and stick on it, keep refining, just like what MacBooks have been doing, boring but classic and iconic.
No.
Macbook has not innovative whatsoever. Asus needs to be Asus and young.
@@NomanJohan ?? M1 Pro/Max?

Hope you get feeling better soon Dave!
It's beautiful, the colour the design personally I love it.
How accurate is the dial? Is it one of those shitty 'turn it 15 degrees and it hits a stop and your tool jumps up a step, but if you spin it too quickly it loses track and you're never guaranteed that if you twist left, then twist right, the same amount sharply, that you end up back where you started' ones? Or a real analogue twist sensor?
That's a secondary worry.. The primary worry is about how soon the area around the dial will fill up with gunk and jam it.
I think it is an analog to digital potentiometer. Many input devices like these are used on other devices and usually I've seen them with 256 or 1024 levels of turn. So I'd say the sensitivity would likely be not 15 degrees but a third of a degree or even less than that. I think they would use a 1024 level sensor or more, they're very cheap and easy to implement into software. (Something like 2€ if you pick one yourself for a DIY thing).
is there any laptop that has an OLED display with a matt anti-reflection screen.....???
Yeah, more nits is nice and all (and important for HDR), but much of it is negated by a glossy display.
@@tams805 OLED or not...I don't think it's worth buying a glossy display...even a 1000nits display will shine a small lightbulb in the background.
the turn up the dial to hear footsteps sold me
