    Very cool man, I did things similarly to you. One day I walked into the local Harley dealership, signed up for the MSF course and picked out a new 2014 Sportster. I actually did the paperwork and bought the bike, then had to leave it sitting in their showroom for a week until I completed the course and could ride it home. I've put 10,500 miles on it so far and am already thinking about adding a second bike to my garage. The 2013+ Daytona 675 is at the top of my list, they are such beautiful bikes! Thanks for posting this video, it's another little nudge toward getting one of my own!

    You made the right choice. My first bike was a Yamaha R3 and I can tell you after a year and a half of riding, the 600+ supersport motorcycles are actually EASIER to ride than the Yamaha R3. I wish I would have started on a 600 cc or higher. The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R (Model Year 2013 or newer) would have been just perfect as a first bike. Anyway, I recently upgraded to a 2013 Triumph Daytona 675R, and I'm loving it. And yes... It's easier to ride than the R3.

      BlackMaleASMR how come?

    • @BlackMaleASMR
      @BlackMaleASMR Před 3 lety

      @@xiongproductions7445 The R3 didn't have a slipper clutch, but the 600cc supersport bikes do. Also, that generation of R3s had horrible aerodynamics. The 600cc bikes had better aerodynamics. The R3 is so light that a slight breeze on the highway could nearly push you into a different lane. Also, the 600cc bikes these days have power levels. That means if you're new to riding, you can have the bike on a low power level then work your way up. Oh! The suspension and brakes on 600cc bikes are WAY better than the ones on the R3. The R3 wasn't stable at all, so it was more difficult to ride than a 600cc bike.

My advice is to start on something with less horses and not a super sport, gives you more room for error. Still loads of good bikes out there which are still super fun. :) hope everything worked out

    youre definitely right about being able to jump from msf to a 600cc bike. the problem is most people don't have the proper know-how of a machine with such power. my first bike was a triumph TT600, and I had no issue.
    but i will never recommend anything over a 500 as a first bike. most people just can't handle it and are a danger to themselves and others on a bike this big as their first bike.

    • @tdiesel85
      @tdiesel85  Před 9 lety

      Both; I played with my suspension settings and kind of got it the way I wanted it. I'm thinking since this bike is taller than the r6, the higher center of gravity makes turning more work but once you get the suspension & your body mechanics dialed in, it's a euphoric feeling!

    Hey man, Love the video. And Love, Love, Love your bike. I am just getting into riding as well. I am 39, 6-3 200 lbs. My problem is the little 250s and 300s I can fit comfortably on them. Most of my friends tell me that a 500-700cc bike would be a great size bike for my height, weight. I can't stop thinking about the 675R. I am hoping to keep this bike for a while. I was just wondering if the course teaches you on different bikes. So you get a feel of what you like. Just wondering why you chose that over a cruiser?

    • @tdiesel85
      @tdiesel85  Před 6 lety

      Hi Dylan! As far as I know, the course only provides 250s, but it gives you a chance to understand basic controls, maneuvering, and skills of riding a motorcycle that you'll, of course, use out on the road. I'd highly suggest taking it before hopping onto any bike if you're starting with little to no experience like I did.
      If you're asking why I chose a sportbike over a cruiser, it's because I liked the speed and quickness of a sportbike. I liked the aggressive look of a sportbike and the thought of hitting corners with my knee down was fascinating. At the time, cruisers were not appealing to me.

    • @MrDylanryan
      @MrDylanryan Před 6 lety

      Ya I am for sure going to take the course. It just seems the right thing to do and here in Canada we have too. I have been doing some research and here in Canada we pay insurance based on CCs and for a first time rider Cruisers are kind of out of my league. Too big. So because I don't want to pay more for insurance than the bike itself I am trying to find a good entry sport bike with low CCs but not too low. I am like you. I am kind of a speed junky. I think the Daytona will be my work towards bike. Sucks! Safe riding bud!

      Like a king! Once I learned the bike, it was effortless to ride it and, as long as you keep up with the maintenance and don't abuse it (too harshly), it'll work every time for you. I still have it and it fires right up every season. If I still have it in 2023, I may do a 10 year review.

    • @tdiesel85
      @tdiesel85  Před 8 lety

      +Prajit Hari when I first got this, I found it hard to lean because I learned to ride on a 250 and during the course, they never took us out on the road to experience real road feel; like speed and wind resistance. I never thought the power was hard to handle or manage because it's controlled by you; you go as fast or as slow on it as you want with the flip of your wrist.

    • @prajithari3005
      @prajithari3005 Před 8 lety

      I'm planning to get the 2016 675 (not 675R) model as my first bike, most of them feel it's stupid and I should go the 300cc route which I don't want to really. If the power as you say could be controlled then I would definitely buy this beast as a lot of them have said "the power this bike has can kill you"

  • @Poltergeyst
    @Poltergeyst Před 10 lety

    dude, do you counter-steer? because, that effort in turning could be because you're tense and try to turn the handlebars to the way you wanna go. you gotta relax and let it lean, use counter-steer. also, check your tyre pressure. if it's the recommended, then it's not because of that.

    • @tdiesel85
      @tdiesel85  Před 10 lety +1

      I had to get used to riding it at actual road speed rather than a parking lot lol . It took me a few rides to understand that the faster you go, the more effort your body has to put into riding. I wasn't putting the effort in so the bike wasn't really responding. That was due to the fact I was quite cautious riding a bike on the roadway for the first time and fresh out the MSF course. Its been sometime since I've made this video and turning is no longer an issue.....keeping my wrist under control is though.

    • @Poltergeyst

    Better torque, thinner because of the, in my opinion, better frame design... Check your steering damper and watch moto gp... just by slightly extending the leg you want to turn towards makes your weight turn the bike. Nothing about our bikes are bad enough to complain about... sacrifice (or rather write off) the cons for it's pros... ;)

  • @Zalonka
    @Zalonka Před 10 lety

    That exhaust is ixil and for new tires you should get some Michelin Pilot Road 3's. It's a sport touring tire and they last for 10,000 miles or longer Not to mention if the previous owner just purchased the same tires that the Daytona came with. Those tires do not like gravel at all and will slip very easily.
    Lol only one video of the bike, I assume you may have downed it?

    • @tdiesel85
      @tdiesel85  Před 10 lety

      I believe I did say the exhaust was an Ixil. I did purchase the Michelin Pilot Power 3 tires (not the Roads) because this is a sport bike and I ride it as a sport bike so I went for the tire that complimented my riding style . I've got 4,000 miles on the tires and still have another 1,000+ before I buy another set (really just the rear one) so they've done good by me. BTW, I've noticed most things with 2 wheels don't like gravel no matter what the tire type is.
      The bike is fine. It's not been downed or trashed or totaled. It's still with me. I've just been tinkering and tooling around with it alot to understand the mechanics of it. Maybe next season I'll get a gopro and make a few riding vids so you never know. Thanks for asking!

    I still think progressing through the power groups is a better way to go. Like now I have a 2013 zx-6r 636, downgrading from an S1000RR, because the litre bike made me a lazy rider.
    I first started on a Ninja 250R, and after my (required in my country) year on it, I turned it into a track bike. Along side this I bought a 2004 zx-6r 636 (which I'd track on occasion), as the 250 was quite stale. The tracks in oz don't have too many long straights and a good amount of corners, so on my 250 I'd pass people riding 600s or 1000s on corners and twisties because I had better technique. I learnt better technique b/c I didn't have to worry about power and I could just thrash the bike side to side.
    In my honest opinion, America needs the required sub-250 probationary category. So many shit riders exist because they buy the biggest thing they see.
